Sensational injury allegations aside, Table Tennis' biggest hurdle will be getting people to care about, well… a table tennis game. While they've opted to keep the game accurate with a top notch control scheme, the nondescript characters and basement settings don't help the game's hum-drum visual appeal. Once you factor in the blah incentive of unlocking "life-like" shirts, and the complete lack of any online play, many gamers won't have any reason to keep playing even after they've succumbed to Table Tennis fever.
With its tight controls and addictive rallying, Rockstar Games Presents Table Tennis shares many of the same addictive qualities beloved in series like Hots Shots and Virtua Tennis. Plus it boldly straddles the line between pick-up-and-play and hardcore simulation in a way that's nothing short of refreshing on a system that's currently caught under an avalanche of mind numbingly simplistic "casual" games. It probably won't appeal to everybody, but anyone willing to dive into a pair of tiny shorts and swing a paddle isn't likely to be disappointed.
