MTV Games and Harmonix's Rock Band are joining forces with Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Entertainment to celebrate the May 8th theatrical release of the film STAR TREK from director/producer J.J. Abrams. The first-of-its-kind collaboration will fuse together the massive cultural followings of both STAR TREK and the video game phenomenon Rock Band to engage fans with free music, an in-game battle of the bands, and futuristic avatar creation contest.

The official tally of playable music in the Rock Band catalog is 591 songs. PWN or DIE wanted to take a look at this list and see what they can tell about the songs they have chosen to include so far. They took time to make graphs to show some of the data compared by genre, decade, source, and more. Some of what they found is is a little surprising.
The lineup includes music from metal icons Metallica, songs from alternative bands Radiohead and Sonic Youth, as well as tracks from classic rock artists KISS and David Bowie. Rock Band Wii owners will also have access to music from punk band The Clash and rock bands Wolfmother and Garbage.
