IGN: "It took a little longer than we were expecting, but the Rock Band 2 music store is now live. We have taken it for a test drive and verified it is up and running. Users are able to preview and purchase tracks, and there are 20 free songs ready to go. Unless they're free, all songs are 200 points each.

Just before the show, CEO Bobby Kotick signaled his interest in creating a "viable alternative" to Apple's iTunes, saying, "If you're downloading a song to play on your Guitar Hero, there's no reason why you can't download the performance also." The move would be made all the more easy thanks to Activision's new parent company, Vivendi SA, which owns the world's largest record label, Universal Music Group."

Lenny Kravitz and Steve Miller band are allegedly slated to be the next downloadable content packages for Harmonix's Rock Band platform.
Harmonix promises downloadable tracks will be available on Wii "as early as possible." While it was promised way back in September, downloadable tracks for the Wii version of Rock Band 2 did not, after all, make it in time for the game's launch last week. But in a post on the game's official forum, Harmonix assures the DLC is coming soon.

Holiday music is coming to Rock Band, albeit in a barely timely fashion. Harmonix will be releasing a special holiday pack of three songs on December 23rd and hurray, it doesn't include "Last Christmas" by Wham.
