Jan 15, 2008 Samurai Warriors Katana is finally here, and after several so-so earlier titles, it pretty much has the ‘remote as sword field to itself. In Campaign mode this is basically Time Crisis with a sword. This is a very good thing. Relentlessly on-rails fighting can get boring, but Katana mixes up the missions in imaginative ways - youll have to creep through forests filled with archers, spotting them before they can shoot you in the back, hide behind fences and shoot onrushing ...

Jan 14, 2008 We still remember being surprised - and slightly baffled - when Capcom announced Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law at a press event last spring. As an Adult Swim animated series, Harvey Birdman is a novel idea: a lame Hanna-Barbera superhero from the 60s revived as a modern-day lawyer that represents notable cartoon characters. It's heavy on snark, inside jokes and innuendo - but where's the game concept? Luckily, Capcom knows a thing or ten about milking a franchise, and Harvey ...

Jan 8, 2008 If you missed it on DS, Puzzle Quest is a puzzle game and an RPG. You engage in takey-turney battles, casting spells, buying weapons and leveling up your mage or warrior or whatever, just like in a traditional RPG. But the ‘battles are competitive rounds of ball-matching puzzling in the vein of Bejeweled and Zoo Keeper. It is, clearly, a very silly idea. And theres something about the po-faced medieval trappings of Puzzle Quest that really gives us the giggles. But - ...

Jan 7, 2008 How much you enjoy this game largely depends on whether you've actually watched High School Musical and whether, as a result, you want to 'sing it!' If you have, and you do, then the chances are you won't dislike these sickly pop songs and the annoying teenagers singing them as much as we do. Don't get us wrong: we love the song Breaking Free. But the rest are a pretty mixed bag, some of which, like Get 'cha Head in the Game, aren't even really suited to karaoke. Singing these ...

Dec 19, 2007 The first levels blast you right into the action as mighty polar bear warrior Iorek, viciously slaughtering Inuits and wolves as you carry the heroine Lyra through dramatic icy wastes. Its messy, and unoriginal, and painfully linear (even stepping one inch out of line will reveal hidden walls), but it is at least fast and action-packed. Problem is, the game tells the story of The Golden Compass all out of sequence, and soon youre back at the start of Lyras journey, snooping around ...

Dec 18, 2007 Consider this Sonic Team's official pinch: You're not dreaming. After over a decade of fevered anticipation, a new NiGHTS is finally here. Few they may be, fans of the original Sega Saturn game have always held the franchise in the highest regard, and to that proud brood we can happily say that everything you loved about Into Dreams is here to behold on the Wii's NiGHTs: Journey of Dreams. Majestically soaring through hallucinatory landscapes with the power of (slightly) ...

Dec 17, 2007 Youll probably often hear MX compared to Motorstorm, with both offering a similarly comprehensive vehicle set and both flinging mud about the place like a pig in the poo pond. But where Motorstorm is among the most beautiful racers ever made, MX is as plain as a bowling shoe and - inexplicably - has unrefined controls that dont hold a candle to its slightly better-looking versions on PS3 and 360. While its true the game is throwing around impressive physics and incidental ...

Dec 14, 2007 Despite some nagging annoyances, the original Super Swing Golf impressed us with its surprising depth and flawless motion swing. It handily beat the option-light Wii Sports golf, but with two (!) Tiger Woods titles released in the last year (and the promising We Love Golf on the horizon), we couldn't take this blandly titled sequel against the field based solely on its heritage. Luckily, we don't have to. Though fans of the original will experience a severe case of ...

Dec 13, 2007 Jenga - the real game - is ostensibly a party game that draws people together by having them dismantle a tower of blocks. In reality, it's usually just more work than its worth, breaking down into a mess in less time than it takes to set up. If Atari's attempt to virtualize this game is successful in any way, it's that it emulates that problem of being more of a pain than a fun experience, with or without friends. In real Jenga, the actual challenge comes with pulling out a ...

Dec 11, 2007 Wii is quickly becoming a third-party crap magnet and Game Party is the latest game you shouldnt buy unless youre either really easy to please or one of the 10 people who rented Gigli just to see how bad it was. Game Party is no Gigli, but each of the 7 events collected here has its fair share of mechanical issues (except maybe Hoop Shot and Trivia) that nearly take the fun out of partying. Here, in all their half-baked glory, are the games: Darts, Table Hockey (air hockey), ...
