Wii Review
Sept 5, 2007 Anyone who's ever dragged a bag of clubs around a golf course in pursuit of a small, white ball knows how frustrating the game can be. Unless you're one of the few hundred people in the world who are actually good at the game, nothing humbles you like those eighteen holes. However, there's something incredibly wonderful that moment when, for whatever reason, everything clicks and you smash a perfect shot. You may send the ball all over the place the rest of the day, but that one ...

Aug 29, 2007 With so much emphasis on the casual market (Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Wii Play etc), it's easy to assume Nintendo's slowly leaving the hardcore gamer behind. Half of 2007 is over and the only true gamer's game we've seen from the company is Super Paper Mario - an RPG that either pushes your buttons or falls flat. Now, finally, there's a built-for-Wii title that embraces serious players and rewards them with intense shooting action, brain-sizzling puzzles and the smoothest graphics and ...

Those of us who've been playing Madden for years tend to like things just so. We get comfortable with our button layouts, strategy selections, and kicking mechanics to the point of righteous indignance when any basic fundamentals change. Hell, we're still complaining about the infamous passing cone - and that was a couple of seasons back, for crying out loud. So it is with no slight apprehension that we approached Madden 08 on the Wii, for the concept of waggle-based football is enough to make ...

Wii Review
We've given EA there share of guff, sass - heck, we even went so far as to sling malarkey - at their persistent onslaught of subpar Wii ports. Outside of SSX Blur and a decent Madden control scheme, they've done little more than shower Nintendo with mediocre translations of readily available GameCube and PS2 games. But EA has since apologized for their lack of foresight, and we're happy to say that the song and dance found in Boogie is a damn fine step in the right direction. The visuals here ...

You'll have to forgive us old timers for getting our bloomers in a twist over a new Alien Syndrome game. We who spent the mid '80s pumping arcade machines full of currency called "quarters" or praying to an ancient relic called the Sega Master System, carry with us very fond memories for the top-down sci-fi shooter. So it was comforting that the Wii's Alien Syndrome update plays a lot like the game we know and love, with a few RPG-style elements thrown in to reward our fifteen or so years of ...

Heres the story of Driver. Driver 1: ahead-of-its-time PS1 police-chase beauty; GTA before GTA. Driver 2: the same, with on-foot bits. Driv3r: a bigger collection of bugs than youd find on a sugar lump left next to an ant hill. Which brings us to Parallel Lines - the game that returned the series to some of its former glory, and which you can think of as GTA with a time-traveling twist (youre in 1978 for two-thirds of the game, then banged up to emerge in 2006 for the rest). And the action ...

Wii Review
Of all the GameCube titles we were hoping to see resurrected on Wii, Mario Strikers was never one that really showed up on our radar. After all, the original wasnt hugely impressive, being an exhausting and largely skill-free exercise in button-mashing attrition. If it was an arcade sports game its simplicity might have worked in its favor, but who would pay $50 for something so frantic and random? But its back, polished up and given a few new Wii controls though essentially unchanged in ...

Surfs Up is solidly average, but not bad for it. You build up experience doing tricks, jumping off and grinding along waves and island rails. Theres no Story mode - you could think of it as Tony Hawks Penguin Jam with fewer levels and a less interesting range of moves. All the emphasis is on the racing which, while lacking any depth, is strangely pleasing. You steer with the analog stick and do tricks with the D-pad, following the same formula through every level. Unsurprising but ...

If you were expecting to just get a bland reproduction of the new Fantastic Four movie repackaged into a quick game port, you were wrong. The game takes plot elements from the movie, but also a heavy helping from the comic series, to weave a story chucked full of Fantastic Four nemeses. Everyone from the Skrull to Terrax to, dum, dum, dummmm: the Silver Surfer makes an appearance. But instead of feeling like a star-packed, universe encompassing rumble, it just feels like more stuff for The ...

Pokemon Battle Revolution (PBR) is a curious name for Nintendo's latest beastie battling game for home consoles. You see, there's nothing too revolutionary about it. It's just like all the other Pokemon Stadium/Colosseum games, but with updated graphics. If you don't own Pokemon Diamond/Pearl then there's no reason to buy this game. If you're only casually into the DS titles, it's still a tough sell. Only hardcore Diamond/Pearl players that have sunk dozens of hours into their Pokemon will get ...
