Screenshots were even leaked/scanned from magazines, and it was said that Ubisoft was developing it. Well, on April 11, 2006, 5 years this day(Tuesday), not today, Ubisoft officially made the announcement, with a press release, that they were developing..., says CoffeewithGames in the introduction.

Joystiq writes: During a Q&A session following the PAX demo of Red Steel 2, creative director Jason VandenBerghe told Joystiq that he would love to see Red Steel arrive on other platforms. When asked about the possibilities of the new motion control options headed to PS3 and Xbox 360, VandenBerghe said, I personally would love to see any and all consoles have more sword fighting experiences. He then added that any decision to develop the series on other consoles would be up to Ubisoft.

Kotaku: Say, Wii owner. Did you pass on No More Heroes? Well, shame on you! But if you have no taste, maybe you'd like to pick up Red Steel while you're remedying that, thanks to Ubisoft. The French publisher is bundling both Wii titles in one package, a practice we've not seen much of this generation, particularly on the Wii.

While many third party publishers were late to realize the potential of the Wii, Ubisoft were one of the first. However, the French firm has now admitted that a number of its early Wii titles were rushed and lacked quality.
It was a previous job posting back in November of last year that revealed a Red Steel sequel was on the way, and another classified ad seems to suggest that the expected Red Steel 2 will support online functionality.
A new Ubisoft job post on Gamasutra advertises for an online programmer to "develop the online part of a game engine for a Wii project ... located in [Ubisoft's] Production Studio in Paris, where Red Steel and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter games have been developed."
