Wii Preview | Sonic Unleashed
Wii - Sonic Unleashed - Sonic Unleashed - first look

Ever since the first trailer leaked onto the net a short time ago, we’ve been clamoring to hear more about Sonic Unleashed, the supposed “re-imagining” of the Sonic series after a string of commercially successful, yet dismally received entries. It’s sad that we approach each new Sonic title with trepidation, but as luck would have it, Unleashed is poised to bring the blue freak into an entirely new direction. Hitting ...

Wii Preview | Soulcalibur Legends
Admit it, Wii owners: the moment you got a glimpse of the fake-but-stunning trailer for Soulcalibur IV, you felt like you'd been rammed in the gut with the game's trademark giant-ass demon sword. Your lip quivered, your eyes filled with tears like a PSP left at home and you stammered out something about wanting to play as Link again, like you could in SoulCalibur II. Sorry kid; your system just can't handle these ...

Wii Preview | Space Station Tycoon
We thought we had this whimsical SimCity-in-space game's number before we even sat down to play it. We'd played quite a bit of its they-hope-we-don't-mention-it forerunner, Outpost Kaloki X on Xbox 360 and were certain that Space Station Tycoon was just a clone of it. We were only partly right; this is a very similar title from the same developer, but it's very heavily evolved and expanded. We didn't exactly expect the Jetsons and get a new season of Firefly - dammit - but we were pleasantly ...

Wii Preview | Speed Racer: The Videogame
Wii - Speed Racer: The Videogame - Speed Racer

Set in a world where car culture is the culture, Speed Racer is set to blaze its psychedelic, loop-the-loop, so-fast-your-eyes-water trail this summer. Based on the Wachowski brothers’ film of the same name, you get behind the wheel of each character’s signature car, competing in the World Racing League on rollercoaster-style tracks at breakneck speeds. It aims to deliver eye-popping action in a racer that’s not just about ...

Wii Preview | Spider-Man 3
Let's face it, games based on films usually range from mediocre to just plain crappy. But Spider-Man 2 excused itself from following in the steps of other toss-worthy titles clinging to the coattails of the big budget movies they were based on. Swinging through the streets of Manhattan in the free-roaming sandbox title felt great, and its ties to the film franchise felt more like icing on the cake than a crutch to hook you in with a stale game. Fast forward to today, and publisher, Activision, ...

Wii Preview | Spider-Man 3
There's one reason why Spider-Man 2 is the greatest superhero game ever made - the swinging mechanics that enabled you to swoop through the city like a... well, like Spider-Man. Which we guess is the whole point. Few moments in gaming can match the exhilaration of freefalling towards the ground before letting off a web and arcing gracefully back into air. Few games have ever recreated so perfectly a super-hero's powers and made you feel as though they were yours to command. If developer ...

Wii Preview | Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
Sept 24, 2007 Friend or Foe is ultimately another iteration of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, but based solely on Stan Lee's teenage arachno-star. You and a Spidey friend will scrap endless gangs of "minions" throughout several lushly laid-out locales - including New York (obviously), Tokyo and snowy Nepal. On your journeys you'll bump into every major Spidey villain and they'll be available to help you in your quest to... do good stuff, once you've defeated them in battle. With so many camp ...

Wii Preview | Spider-Man: Friend or Foe
When it was recently revealed that publisher Activision had another Spider-Man game in the works, the immediate speculation from fans was that it would be something cool to make up for the disappointing rush-job that was Spider-Man 3. While that may somehow be the case, anyone expecting another free-roaming, web-slinging adventure will be disappointed by Spider-Man: Friend or Foe. Not only does this weirdly colorful, kid-friendly version of Spidey's world seem to be based on a Saturday-morning ...

Wii Preview | SPOGS Racing - WiiWare
Wii - SPOGS Racing - WiiWare - SPOGS Racing - hands-on

Nintendo's online history is damn shaky, so we're enormously relieved to see so many developers lining to support WiiWare, the company’s downloadable software system. With so many titles already in the pipes (and several confirmed for the May 12 launch date), there's every reason to believe WiiWare will turn out to be the inde-developers platform of choice - we're already eager for more time with World of Goo and Lost Winds.

The ...

Wii Preview | Spore
Wii - Spore - Spore

At each of Spore’s five stages, from the microbiotic to the intergalactic, there is an eternal choice: kill or... don’t. When you start, as a microbe with teeth, it’s kill or be vegetarian. When you evolve enough to crawl from the primordial soup to dry land, it’s kill or sing little songs to befriend things. Once your species forms a society and decides what buildings to have in its first village, it’s kill or ...
