Wii Preview | Mario Strikers Charged
Mario Strikers Charged is the first online Wii game in the UK, so we've crowbarred ourselves away from the Halo 3 Beta for a few hours to put Mario's online kick-about to the test. Diving straight in, it takes a few seconds for the Wii to sign into Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Once in, the first thing you're asked to do is choose your Mii - something you should expect most, if not all, online Wii games to do. After that you're taken to the front-end screen for the online mode where, just above ...

Wii Preview | Mario Strikers Charged
Okay, we get the drill by now: Americans aren't as in love with soccer/football as the rest of the world. Maybe it's because we have the NFL, maybe it's because we have short attention spans so games that end with a score of 2-1 aren't that exciting. Maybe it's because we don't love that guy who shouts "GOAAAAAAALLL!" for such a long time that his face turns blue and his grandkids call 911. Or maybe, just maybe, it's because we couldn't set the goalie's hands on fire, knock opponents out with ...

Wii Preview | Mario Strikers Charged
Wednesday 17 January 2007 Probably best described as Mario Strikers Evolution, because that's basically all it is - a Wii-enhanced evolution of the decidedly average GameCube title. Most of the new stuff we've already covered in some detail. The enhanced power shot, for example (allowing you to shoot multiple balls at a goal before the defending party gets whisked away to a somewhat ill-advised ball-deflecting mini-game), or the fact that you can now 'tackle' the opposition by flicking the Wii ...

Wii Preview | Mario Strikers Charged
In a turtle shell - and on the evidence of an extended multiplayer training session - the mustachioed mascot's soccer sequel runs pretty close in line with GameCube's Super Mario Strikers, but takes advantage of the kinetically-enhanced remote by throwing some shaky bits into the kit bag. After selecting a team captain from one of Mushroom Kingdom's famous faces (Mario, Bowser, Peach etc) and picking your squad (made up of Boos, Toadies, Koopas and the like) and style of play, it's on to the ...

Wii Preview | Mario Strikers Charged
Wednesday 20 September 2006 In a turtle shell - and on the evidence of an extended multiplayer training session - the moustachioed Nintendo mascot's footie Wii run out follows pretty closely in the boots of GameCube's Mario Smash Football, but takes advantage of the kinetically-enhanced remote by throwing some shaky bits into the kit bag. After selecting a team captain from one of Mushroom Kingdom's famous faces (Mario, Bowser, Peach etc) and picking your squad (made up of Boos, Toadies, ...

Wii Preview | Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Tuesday 17 October 2006 X-Men Legends had a good run as an Action RPG but what about those of us who like our superheroes with a little less social outcast to them? Publisher Activision is embracing the entire Marvel universe with Ultimate Alliance, and allowed us to embrace every next-gen version at a recent hands-on event. The cast is a veritable who's-who of the heroic elite (in the Marvel universe, anyway). We were able to formulate our team from the following icons: Captain America, ...

X-Men Legends had a good run as an Action RPG, but what about those of us who like our superheroes with a little less social outcast to them? Activision is embracing the entire Marvel universe with Ultimate Alliance, and allowed us to embrace every next-gen version at a recent hands-on event in Santa Monica, CA. The cast is a veritable who's-who of the heroic elite (in the Marvel universe, anyhow). We were able to formulate our team from the following icons: Captain America, Spider-Man, Iron ...

Wii Preview | Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Remember when the DS first launched and there were a ton of games that didn't fit the hardware? We had ports of Splinter Cell and Need for Speed that were more token pieces of software than actual attempts at delivering something new. Well, we don't want to start on that road already, but after a lengthy session with RPG-brawler Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, it looks like it could be happening again. If you've dabbled in the team-friendly X-Men Legends games at all, you know the setup - roam ...

Wii Preview | Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance doesn't really need a serious introduction - just take the action RPG elements of the two mega-popular X-Men Legends games and add about 20 new characters. It's not the gameplay that'll bowl anyone over (at least from what we've seen so far), but the sheer amount of Marvel-ness is staggering. At the recent San Diego Comic-Con, three new playable heroes were revealed: The Fantastic Four's Invisible Woman and Human Torch, and Iceman of X-Men fame. We saw these ...

Wii Preview | Medal of Honor Heroes 2
Nov 15, 2007 After playing this one, it's clear that the most significant difference between a good Wii FPS and an average one is in the framerate. The silky smoothness of Metroid Prime and now Medal Of Honor makes the controls feel slick and instantaneous, giving the game a sheen of quality that belies the otherwise simplistic graphics. Heroes 2 is tuned to perfection in terms of buttery controls and shooty satisfaction, although the AI isn't the greatest - one of our squaddies walked ...
