Speaking in an interview with MCV, Codemasters' Marketing VP Alex Bertie has said that future Wii titles published by the gaming giant will not simply be cheap, crappy ports of their next-gen counterparts. When asked whether the company's focus was shifting from next-gen onto Wii, Bertie replied: You can't ignore Wii, but it's bewildering watching what other publishers are doing. Codemasters has taken a more cautious strategy on Wii which has been the right thing to do. We are not going to make cheap, crappy ports.

It's become acceptable for Wii games to look less than spectacular visually, and certainly well below the bar set by Xbox 360 and PS3 games, but it seems all developers aren't cut from the same rock. Speaking to VideoGamer.com in an interview to be published on the site later today, Overlord: Dark Legend associate producer Dean Scott confidently stated that the upcoming Wii game blows away just about everything else he's seen on the console. A bold claim, but he's prepared to be held up to internet ridicule if that's not the case. Overlord Dark Legend looks amazing, said Scott. When people see this game in motion, they are going to be seriously impressed. It sounds like such a lame cliché to say 'it looks like the 360 version', but that's true. Not exactly, but it's closer than we ever imagined possible on the platform.

Edge writes: SouthPeak Interactive reported record sales of $40.2 million for its fiscal year 2008, an increase of 220 percent year-on-year, the company said Tuesday. The firm attributed the sharp rise in sales to the increased number of current generation releases. Net income was $1.6 million, up from a net loss of $866,000 a year ago.

Dean Scott, producer of Overlord: Dark Legends (the Wii exclusive Overlord game) spoke at GDC last month criticising Wii Ports.
