It is about a god who flew through vast fields and watched over the verdant life all across the land. This god became known as Okami, and was honored by all of the people in the land. However, in the present day the dragon Orochi has been resurrected, 100 years after it managed to kill Okami. Its return cursed the land of Nippon, swallowing the green plants and verdant plains until the land was shrowded in darkness. Only the small Kamaki Village was able to avoid this terrible fate thanks to the wood sprite Sakuya who inhabited a sacred tree that watched over the village. Distressed by the disaster, she had to request help from an ancient god. Performing a ritual, she drew the spirit of the god Amaterasu into the statue of Okami that rested in a shrine next to the sacred tree. Amaterasu was the world's only hope of restoring the land to its former glory, and a long quest awaited her. =========================================================================== ~2.Controls~ =========================================================================== The controls for Okami are easy to learn. The game uses both the Wiimote and the Nunchuk, so make sure you have both pieces of the controller to play the game. A Button--Jump (press again in midair to double jump once you have the Holy Eagle skill), press while against a wall to wall jump (can only do once per jump), hold to paint while using the Celestial Brush, confirm options B Button--Hold it to use the Celestial Brush, cancel options Control Pad--Move camera around - Button--Open the Options menu + Button--Open the Fan menu 1 Button--Display map 2 Button--Zoom camera near/far from Amaterasu, hold to view in 1st person perspective Z Button--Talk to people, examine objects, bark, hold to draw a straight line while using the Celestial Brush, use Sub-Weapon, save game at Origin Mirror C Button--Keep pressing to dig a hole in the ground, press in battle to use Golden Fury, hold in battle to use Brown Rage (Ammy must learn those last two techniques from the Dojo first) Control Stick--Move Amaterasu Wiimote--Shake outside of combat to perform a tackle which makes you run faster if you are already running (and can be used to destroy certain objects), shake in combat to use weapon Nunchuk--Shake to dodge in the direction you shake (requires the Fleetfoot skill learned from the Dojo) =========================================================================== ~3.Facets of Okami~ =========================================================================== There are many features to the extremely large world of Okami. This section breaks down the majority of the features you will be using on your long quest. Get to know all of these features relatively early and you won't have much trouble on your journey. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~3A.Exploring Nippon~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The majority of the game will be spent exploring new areas and discovering how to reach selected destination. There is generally only one main route to get to any destination, but there are a ton of distractions that will quickly get you sidetracked on your journey. Nippon is large and vast, and there are plenty of hidden locations and people to talk to. As a rule of thumb, it's best to talk to everyone that you encounter. Many people will have useful information to provide, such as clues to nearby hidden locations or items, or tricks in reach an already visited destination faster. Some people will even ask you to do small tasks for them, which should be completed in order to earn Praise. And since the game is so focused on exploring the land, not to mention the game encourages it, you should seek out every nook in cranny that you can find. Almost everything that is hidden in the game will often give you some reward, whether it is money, an item, or more Praise. Collecting everything will make your journey easier, and can help power up Amaterasu. Over the course of the game you will enter many "dungeon" like areas. Such areas always end with a boss, and for some of these areas you can't return to them once you complete them. There are no critical items in the no return dungeons, but even so you should still make sure you don't miss any free items that the dungeon hands you. You never know when they'll be useful. Finally, always keep certain items with you at all times. Always have healing items with you incase you get into a tough battle. Steel Fist Sake and Vengence Slips are also good items to keep with you. You'll obviously want these to avoid getting killed in combat. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~3B.On Screen Items~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's best to get familiar with the objects and icons that are present on the screen at almost all times. Solar Energy--Displayed in the top left corner as little suns, this is Amaterasu's health bar. Whenever she takes damage from enemies, the bar decreases by making the suns fade to black. Enemies late in the game are capable of knocking two or three suns per attack, so it's always a good idea to keep an eye on your health and keep it conserved. Restore health by grabbing Solar Energy pickups that enemies may drop, or by using a health restoration item. You start with three units, but can expand it up to 20 units. Ink Bottles--This bar is kept below the Solar Energy bar. It displays the amount of Ink Bottles that you currently have, and if they are full or not. When you use a Celestial Brush technique, one Ink Bottles is used (some techniques may use two or three bottles). When you aren't using a brush technique, the bottles will fill back one at a time. It takes about five seconds for one bottle to refill. You start with three bottles but can increase it up to a total of 10 bottles. Astral Meter--Once you obtain the Astral Pouch, you can begin filling it with food. When Amaterasu eats food, a small pouch will appear on the bottom left side of the screen, along with a number. Each food eaten will increase that number (some foods make it increase more than others). When it reaches 200, the pouch will turn red and will be full. If you have additional pouches, they can then be filled (the game switches to them automatically). If you ever die, and you have at least one full Astral Pouch, all of the food from that pouch will be used to fully restore Amaterasu's life without getting a game over. You can get a maximum of four Astral Pouches. Command Window--When you get near certain things, you may be prompted to push the Z button to initiate the command listed in the window in the bottom left corner of the screen. This could be talking to people, examining scenery or signs, or feeding wild animals. Issun does all of the talking/explaining for you, so all you need to do is listen to what he says. Yen Purse--Displayed in the bottom right corner, this number shows the amount of Yen you currently have on hand. You start with a five digit purse, but can expand it into an eight digit purse capable of storing millions of Yen. You'll use Yen to purchase all sorts of items throughout the game. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~3C.Fan Menu~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- When you hit the + Button you will bring up the Fan Menu. There are several different screens of information to look through when you open the menu. The first screen is iconed by a yellow bag with a red swirl at the top of the screen. This is the items screen. Amaterasu's currently equipped weapon and sub-weapon, equipped holy artifacts, current health, Yen, Demon Fangs, and amount of Sun Fragments are shown on the right side of the screen. The left side has the Tools and Equipment button. Tools leads to your current inventory of items and key items. You can use your normal items if it is possible to do so (such as health restoring items, something only possible if you aren't at full health). Equipment leads to your stash of Divine Instruments and Holy Artifacts. You can equip your weapons and artifacts as you see fit. The second screen is iconed by Amaterasu's head. This screen lists your Divine Attributes--Solar Energy, Ink Pots, Astral Pouches, and Yen Purse. Your current amount of Praise is listed here. You can spend Praise upgrading these four stats. Hodl the A button to inject Praise into the stat of your choice, and when it fills up it will increase. The required amount of Praise needed for each upgrade is also listed. Remember, each upgrade will require more and more Praise. Solar Energy can be increased twelve times, Ink Pots seven times, Astral Pouches three times, and Yen Purse three times. Upgrade however way you want. There's enough Praise in the game and then some to max out every ability. If you want my opinion, upgrade on order of important: Ink Pots--> Solar Energy-->Purse. Astral Pouches aren't necessary--only one should be needed, and you should always have plenty of healing items with you anyway. The third screen is iconed by the Celestial Brush. The list of brush techniques you have learned, as well as pictures on how to draw them, are listed here. Look at this screen if you've forgotten how to draw something. The fourth screen is iconed by a scroll. There are eight different points of data here. The first is the Logbook, containing three different lists. The first is the Journal, which records recent key conversations noting on what task or location you need to visit next. The second is Fortunes. One character in the game will offer you fortunes on where to go next in your request. Her answer is listed here. Third is the Wanted List. Several characters in the game will want you to kill certain monsters, and there names will be marked on Wanted Lists viewable here. The Travel Guide brings up a list of 30 scrolls to read. You'll find these scrolls throughout the game. They contain info on how to use brush techniques, battling, among other things. The Bestiary shows pictures of enemies you have encountered, as well as descriptions of the enemy. Methods on how to kill them easily are listed for most foes as well. It's useful to read. The Move List describes how to perform each hidden technique you have learned from the Dojo. Look here if you've forgotten how to pull them off. The Animal Tome lists the percentage of each type of animal in the game you have fed. The Fish Tome lists how many of each fish you have in your inventory, and the Treasure Tome lists how many of each treasure you have in your inventory. fish and Treasure serve no other purpose other than easy cash for selling them to merchants. Finally, there's the Stray Beads. There are 100 Stray Beads in the game, and each one you find is recorded here. Look here to find which numbered beads you do and don't have. The final screen is iconed by a map. It lists, obviously, a map of Nippon, or the current city/village/dungeon you are currently in. Amaterasu's location is shown by her head, and locations of any Origin Mirrors, Ultimate Mirrors, and Mermaid Springs are also shown. Red X's are the locations of places you should investigate at some point. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~3D.Praise~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Throughout the game you will be earning Praise. Praise is faithful power received from reviving nature and helping people or animals. There are many places through the game where you can earn Praise, and it is something you will want to constantly be wanting to find. In the Divine Attributes section of the Fan Menu you will find the total amount of Praise you have accumulated thus far. The amount of Solar Energy, Ink Pots, Astral Pouches, and Purse size are shown here. You can spend your hard earned Praise increasing these stats. The amount of Praise needed to upgrade each stat is listed next to each ability. You'll collect Praise by helping people out. Giving them items they request or completed a task they wish they were able to accomplish themselves is a good way to get Praise. All over Nippon you will find animals on the ground or flying around, landing on the ground occasionally. You can feed groups of animals using food pouches you can purchase from merchants (seeds, herbs, meat, and fish). You can feed each group of animals only once, however. If the animals have hearts above their heads, then they have already been fed. You can check the Animal Tome in the Fan Menu to see the percentages of each animal fed. Around 1000 Praise can be earned total from feeding all the animals in the game. Also around Nippon you can find a pillar of green light bursting from the ground. Dig a hole with the C button in these spots to make a wilted clover grow. Use Bloom brush technique in order to revive the clover and receive Praise. Clovers that appear towards the end of the game tend to give a ton of Praise than clovers early in the game, but regardless you should always Bloom one whenever you find the green light. It's easy Praise. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~3E.Celestial Brush~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Celestial Brush is an ability unique to Amaterasu. At the push of a button you can bring up a screen where you can draw various shapes and figures, changing the world around you. You'll get it near the beginning of the game. To use it, hold the B button to bring up the canvus. The screen will turn a musty brown, and the brush will appear. Now, pointing the Wiimote at the screen, hold A to draw whatever you wish. You can only affect the world by using the abilities you have learned. Drawing a plant isn't going to make one appear, basically. There are a total of thirteen abilities you will learn throughout the game, and several hidden techniques that aren't required for your success but are necessary for sidequests. All brush techniques can be used in combat, too. Most enemies have at least one technique weakness, so exploit them whenever possible to make your progress easier. Remember, each ability uses one ink pot (although several hidden techniques may use more ink pots), so wait for them to refill before using more techniques. Finally, Amaterasu is the focus point when using the brush. That means that you have full control of the camera, and can rotate around Amaterasu as you see fit. It's useful in some areas when you can't normally get the camera to view something, as the camera while using the brush is a bit more free. It's a lifesaver in enemy and boss battles as well. Don't forget it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~3F.Item Collection~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Throughout the game you will collect a large variety of items. All of them are useful, but many are also situational. Most of the items are in the Tools section of the Fan Menu. They can used at any time (except for the key items on their on row at the bottom), but only in certain situations. Items that increase strength/defense can only be used while in combat, and health items can't be used when you are at full health. Other items can be used at any time, such as the Gold Dust which increases the power of one weapon. Most items are purchased from various merchants around Nippon, which can be found under their trademark umbrellas. Items can also be found in treasure chests also located all over Nippon. Explore everywhere to find the items. Treasure chests can also contain, well, treasure itself. These items serve no purpose other than easy money when sold to merchants. Weapons are also items you'll want to collect. You will obtain most of the Divine Instruments through the story, but a few of them will need to be purchased from merchants. They are expensive, and only certain merchants in Nippon sell them. Search for them--the more powerful the instrument the easier it will be to kill foes. Finally, there are Holy Artifacts. These are very rare items with special effects. You can only have a maximum of three equipped at a time. You are given one of them midway through the game. The rest need to be traded for Demon Fangs. The effects of the items will only occur if equipped, obviously. For instance, one items allows you to walk on water while another refills Ink Pots at a very quick rate. Get them all--they are very useful. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~3G.Battling Enemies and Weapons~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- All across Nippon you will find floating Demon Scrolls. These don't appear in major areas likes towns or villages, just main routes connecting them. Any Demon Scrolls you do find in cities or villages are either scripted battles or result in some reward. If Amaterasu touches a Demon Scroll, a wall of energy will appear around you and several enemies will spawn. As with any fight in a video game, simply drain the health of a foe to kill them. Kill every foe to end the battle. You can escape battles, however. If the wall is blue/purple, then in multiple section of the wall you can find a glowing circle. Attack this several times with any weapon to make it wide and red, allowing you to jump through it and escape battle. Escaping battle has no repercussions, but it lowers your Godhood (your shield), so be careful. If the wall is red, then the battle can't be escaped from. When enemies are defeated they will drop Yen over the ground. Run near it collect it. When all enemies are defeated, you will receive a cash bonus depending on a few things. First, there's the base amount of money you received. You are capable of doubling it in each battle. This is based on how quickly you completed the battle, and how much damage you received. For time, it's different in each battle depending on the type of enemies and how many you encounter. For damage, simply put if you never get hit you receive the best rating (losing Godhood doesn't count as being hit; only losing Solar Energy units matter). In each stat a tree represents your rank. The worst is a wilted seed, a 0% bonus. Next is a small tree, giving a 10% bonus, then a bigger tree giving a 20% bonus, a tree with green leaves giving around a 25% bonus, and finally the best ranking, a cherry blossom giving a 50% bonus. The percentages for each bonus is added up, taken from your base earnings, and then added together to form a total. For instance, if you earned 5000 Yen from enemies, got a green leaf tree for time and cherry blossom for damage, that's a 75% bonus. 75% of 5000 is 3750, so the total Yen earned from that battle would be 8750. Also, each enemy in the game has a "floral finisher". When you strike the lethal blow on an enemy, you have a short second or two to draw a certain brush technique on that enemy. If you do the right technique based on the enemy, they will give you a Demon Fang (some enemies drop two, and even three fangs). There are several Demon Fang traders across Nippon that'll give you neat items in exchange for them, and one trader that will give you very rare and useful items for them. It's wise to save them up. Note that in the Wii version of Okami you can only get Demon Fangs from enemies, whereas in the PS2 version you were also able to get them in loading screens. This is because the Wii version has significantly shorter loading screens, and thusly obtaining Demon Fangs from them would be quite hard. There is nothing else to gain from battling besides cash and Demon Fangs, so if you want you can just avoid Demon Scrolls altogether. Just be careful at nighttime because if you get near a Demon Scroll it will chase you for a few seconds, making battles a little harder to avoid. Around Nippon you can also find Devil Gates, which look like small haunted shacks. Enter them to enter an unescapable fight with several waves of enemies. Defeating all the enemies and purging the world of the Devil Gate will restore the local environment, netting you some Praise. Also hidden around Nippon are three special Devil Gates with ten waves of enemies. These gates contain enemies with more health and power than normal, and are hard to beat. They net special rewards if you can find and destroy them, however. Finally, the last thing to note in combat is your Godhood. It's the symbol in the bottom left corner of the screen. There are five stages of it-- green, yellow, red, none, or a skull. As you score combos on enemies, your Godhood will increase from nothing to red, then yellow, then green. Getting hit will reduce Godhood one level (the lowest level is nothing, however). It's a shield in this sense. Losing Godhood won't hurt your health at all. It's best to keep Godhood up so you can take several hits before actually losing health. If you every fall into a bottomless pit in the overworld, or you escape from battle, Godhood also decreases one level. However, doing this is the only way to reach the skull level of Godhood. In this stage, Amaterasu's attacks are weaker and she will take about 50% more damage than normal. Use a Traveler's Charm or any other Godhood increasing item to escape the skull level, or just combo enemies until you return to normal. Try to avoid falling into pits to not enter this stage. Now, throughout the game you will encounter three different types of weapons. These are your source of attacks when fighting. All of the attacks require you to shake the Wiimote in order to attack. The three different types of weapons are: Reflectors--Morderately hard timing, pretty powerful, reflects enemy shots as a Sub-Weapon Rosaries--Easiest timing, weakest weapon, can quickly combo multiple enemies, various Sub-Weapon abilities (such as Ink Bullet) Glaives--Hardest timing, most powerful, has a charge ability for stronger attacks, does a quick forward spike as a Sub-Weapon All players will have their own favorites type of weapon to use. I prefer Rosaries, but others like Reflectors or Glaives more. Regardless, you're still killing enemies with weapons, so take your pick on whichever type you prefer using. Reflectors have a certain timing to them. When you shake the Wiimote, Amaterasu will do a small hop dash towards the enemy and strike them with the Reflector. When she lands back on the ground, shake the Wiimote again to attack again. If you flail the Wiimote, Amaterasu will generally stall on the ground and won't attack. Once you find the right rhythm to attacking, using Reflectors becomes very easy. For Rosaries, no timing is necessary. Flail the Wiimote to send out the beads, which home in on the nearest enemy. Keep shaking it to continue attacking and scoring huge combos. Rosaries have enormous range, and they are capable of striking many enemies at once if you are at the right angle. They don't do a whole lot of damage in one shot, but if you keep up the combo you can kill enemies just as fast as you would with other weapons. These are the weapon of choice for those who don't want to time their attacks. Glaives are hard to use, but are very powerful. You can shake the Wiimote for a single slice, or wave it up to lift the sword and charge an attack. You can't move while charging, however. Swing the Wiimote down to make a powerful impact, severely injuring all enemies in the way. The timing is tricky to learn, but once mastered players can end battles quickly with these powerful weapons. To switch weapons, open the Fan Menu and select "Equipment". You can equip one Weapon and one Sub-Weapon. Sub-Weapons are used in combat with the Z button, and have various effects. Experiment a bit. Each Divine Instrument you recieve can be used as either type of weapon, so customize Amaterasu as you see fit. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~3H.Saving~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- All across Nippon, and in dungeons, you will be wanting to save. Luckily, Origin Mirrors are in many major locations in Nippon. Step up to a mirror and the camera will focus on it. When it zooms in to show the mirror, press the Z button to bring up the list of save files. From there you'll need to overwrite a file to save the game. Entering the podium of the mirror fully restores your health and ink. There are two types of mirrors--normal Origin Mirrors which are just white, and Ultimate Mirrors which have a black X across them. There's no saving differences between the mirrors, but if you buy the Fog Pot for a large amount of Demon Fangs, you can warp between any Ultimate Mirrors in areas you've visited (just the areas--you don't need to have ever stepped on the Ultimate Mirror of the area to warp there). To do so, paint an X on the X of the mirror. The game is finicky about this (the Wii version, that is), and drawing a + on the mirror instead has a far higher success rate. Remember to save whenever possible! You never know when something may go wrong (such as the game freezing...) and you'll need to restart from the last save point. =========================================================================== ~4.Celestial Walkthrough~ =========================================================================== And now to cover the actual game itself. This walkthrough is essentially a 100% walkthrough. I don't go out of my way to do long sidequests, however. If there is anything that can be collected on the path to a destination, I will make note of it. The walkthrough is split into sections, each one being one of the key objectives of the game from start to finish. This should make finding where you are stuck much easier. The second to last section will be a whirlwind tour of Nippon, collecting every item and doing every sidequest that was not included in the main walkthrough. Since you're the player, you aren't required to do that. Performing just the bare minimum to complete the game is always acceptable. Things included in this walkthrough besides just the path to get from point A to point B are animals to feed, ways to get Praise, special items to be found, hidden areas on any route, and other things of the sort. Nippon is huge and is awaiting exploration! --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~4A.Cutting the Sacred Fruit~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview--Beginning the game, you need to cut the ripe fruit atop Sakuya's tree in order to restore life back to Kamiki Village. She hints at an ability of yours that may be able to slice the fruit. You'll get used to how the game works in this "tutorial" of sorts while you go find a method of cutting. Be sure to watch the entire introduction to the game. Yes, it's about fifteen minutes long, but this game has an amazing story and you should at least pay attention to how it starts. Issun the wandering artist will be accompanying you, and he's...interesting to listen to, to say the least. Enter the tree through the glowing opening. ====================== ~River of the Heavens~ ====================== A beautiful place, no? Issun talks about camera controls when you enter. The Control Pad moves the camera, while pressing the 2 button will zoom the camera in and out. Holding the 2 button will go into a first person view, and holding the 1 button brings up a map. You can still move while holding the 1 button, so it's useful for getting around. Head forward and Issun will comment on the mirror near the bridge. It's an Origin Mirror, used for saving your game. Step onto the mirror podium and the camera will focus on the mirror itself. Press Z to bring up the list of save files, and overwrite one to save the game. Be sure to save often. Once that's done, cross the bridge. Issun will mention that you can swing the Wiimote to perform a tackle. Using a tackle you can break those pots for a few Yen, but it isn't much so you don't need to waste your time. Remember that tackling while running will make Ammy sprint, so do that when running long distances. Around the corner Issun will notice a chest atop the cliff. It's a bit high, but you can reach it. Wall jumping is quite simple. Perform a jump, and while holding the control stick against the wall, press and hold A again to wall jump. Grab the Holy Bone S from the chest and head to the next bridge. It's been destroyed, though. Issun is luckily capable of just drawing a new bridge with his brush, so now you can cross on over it. He mentions that this is a brush power, and how gods are said to have them. Hmm. Crossing the reformed bridge, Issun notes the would-be river nearby. Since you can't cross that, head up the hill. You will gaze into the starry sky and several blue stars will light up. One of the stars is missing. After Issun fails to draw it, it'll be your turn. Hold the B button and just tap the A button on the left end of the constellation to draw the dot to complete it. The god Yomigami will come out and hand over the power of Rejuvenation, one of the thirteen brush techniques. Head back down the hill and to the small puddle of water. Look straight ahead to the gap in the fence at the other side. Now, draw the river but scribbling all over the pathway. It's not too hard. If done right, water will appear. Now, simply swim across to the other side. Break open the chest by tackling it to grab an Astral Pouch. Fill this with two hundred points of food, and it will fully restore your health once if killed in combat. Once used, you'll need to refill it with food. Now, enter the glowing gateway. ============== ~Cave of Nagi~ ============== Head up the path with stairs ahead of you. There isn't much here except more beautiful scenery. Right before you cross the bridge, look to the right. There should be a small bit of land to the left of the waterfall. Behind the brown rock is a chest with Stray Bead #1 in it. Get back on land and cross the bridge. Further up the path is a small cave. Once you enter it, the path behind you will seal up. The giant statue's sword is broken, so you should know what to do. Scribble over spot where the rest of the sword would be if it wasn't broken in order to restore it. When you do, another constellation will appear in the sky. Fill in the star on the left to make the god Tachigami appear. He bestows upon you the Power Slash brush technique. Issun tells you to practice it on the nearby rock. All you need to do is draw a straight, horizontal line to perform the Power Slash. With the Wiimote, it may be difficult to pull off. Luckily, you can hold the Z button to make the brush be forced to move straight regardless if you move it up or down at all. Move it left to right to form the line, cutting the rock. And good news, Issun is sticking with us! Woo! Huh, the Power Slash cuts, yeah? Looks like we can cut Sakuya's fruit to restore the village. Head back out of the cave. You can use the Power Slash to cut through the wooden gate that once blocked your exit. Follow the arrow back to the entrance of the Cave of Nagi. As you get down the stairs from the shrine, you'll be ambushed by enemies. Time to learn how to battle foes! Swing the Wiimote to attack foes with the Divine Instrument upon your back. You need to time it, however. Swing each time Ammy finishes her attack. If you flail the Wiimote, she will often stall in her attacks. Also, sometimes after striking foes several times they may turn black and white. When this happens they are weak to brush techniques. Use a Power Slash to inflict a lot of damage. Green Imps are pretty weak, and only attack by sticking a long stick out towards you (which will easily miss if you keep moving). Green Imps' floral finisher is the Power Slash. Use it on them as soon as you deal the lethal blow on them to receive a Demon Fang. Collect these for later in the game. Now continue down the path back towards the glowing gate. Just before you reach it you will be attacked by two more Green Imps. Kill them, then enter the gate. ====================== ~River of the Heavens~ ====================== Simply sprint all the way through this area to end up back outside Sakuya's tree. ================ ~Kamiki Village~ ================ Walk out until the fruit is in view. All you need to do is Power Slash it to cut it open, restoring life to the village. And there you go, your objective is complete. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~4B.Exploring Kamiki Village~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview--Now that the town has been revived, it's time to explore and see what there is to do. There's some ways of getting Praise, and you'll have to find a way to destroy a boulder that blocks the exit of the village. ================ ~Kamiki Village~ ================ The village has been restored, right? It still seems a bit quiet. Anyway, leave the tree area and head down the hill. When you reach the bottom, examine the statue with the Z button. Weird, it looks just like a person. Let's ignore it for a bit. Head up the spiraling hill to the left. When you reach the top, walk out onto the end of the wooden platform. Issun comments that the village isn't what it's supposed to be right now. Run back down the hill and head right when you reach the statue to reach the lower area of the village. When you reach the bottom you'll find a few more statues as well. Examine two of them and Issun will tell you to look at the village again from higher ground to spot what's wrong. Run right back up the hill and to the wooden platform again. Perhaps if the sun was out then maybe the dark curse on Kamiki Village would lift. To draw the sun, as simple as it is, simply draw a circle in the sky. It seems to have worked on the village as the elder, Mr. Orange, will come up to greet Ammy. As he's talking to you, three Green Imps will ambush you on the platform. These guys still aren't terribly hard, so get some free Demon Fangs from them. Once killed, the nearby pond will flow with water again, and you'll earn 20 Praise. When you restore nature to its former beauty, feed animals, and help people, you'll earn Praise. You'll see how it's used a little later, though. Break open the chest to obtain a Seed Feedbag. Feedbags are used to, well, feed animals, earning you Praise. Try it out right now. Walk around the pond and as soon as you reach get near the spiraling hill you should see several sparrows on the ground. Press Z when near them to bring open the Fan Menu, then use the Seed Feedbag. You'll feed the sparrows, as well as earn five Praise. Head back down the hill now. You can talk to Kumoso, the guy between the hills leading to the top and bottom of the village who plays the flute horridly, getting you into a fight with several Green Imps. Complete the fight fast enough and you'll begin a sidequest. You won't understand the sidequest until much later, so this isn't necessary right now. At the bottom of the village you can help the villagers with some of their problems. You'll want to do it for some easy Praise, no less. Talk to Mushi, the kid playing with his dog next to the turnip field. Talk to him a second time and he'll challenge you to beat his dog's record by asking you to dig up all ten turnips without leaving the crop field or getting hit by his mother. To dig a turnip, just stand over one and keep pressing a C button to dig the hole. Mushi's mother is annoying to avoid, so you'll want to stall her. Dab her with some ink by drawing on her and she'll be stunned for several seconds trying to clean it off. This'll make it easy to get all ten turnips. When you dig the last one, an Oddly Shapped Turnip will appear. Bite it with the C button and bring it to Mushi. You'll get 7 Praise as a reward. Now, go visit the houses and talk to the people, including Kushi in the nearby corn field. Whenever you see a green arrow appear over someone's head after talking to them, it means they have more information to give you, so talk again. Keep this in mind throughout the game. To the left of the bridge you will find Mrs. Orange doing her laundry. After talking to her several times she'll mention her drying pole has gone missing. Should be simple to figure out. Draw some lines between the two vertical poles to Rejuvenate the laundry pole. After doing so, talk to her again and she'll wish the sun would appear close to the laundry so it could dry faster. Draw the sun in the sky (it doesn't matter where) to please her, as well as netting 7 Praise. Also, you can talk to her at nighttime to receive Cherry Cakes, which fill up the Astral Pouch a fair amount. Head across the bridge and save at the Ultimate Mirror. Head up the path to find a giant rock blocking the exit, as well as a merchant. Talk to him and a Red Imp and two Green Imps will attack you. Red Imps will occasionally shield themselves with their weapon, making them invulnerable briefly. Otherwise, they aren't much different than Green Imps. Their floral finisher is also the Power Slash. After defeating them, some trees and plants will be restored, and you'll earn 30 Praise. Issun will open up the Fan Menu and turns to the Divine Attributes section. Using Praise you can enhance your stats--Solar Energy, Ink Pots, Astral Pouches, and purse size. I advise going with Solar Energy for now, and later on increasing Ink Pots a lot (increase purse size twice when you get the chance, and don't bother with the Astral Pouch). The merchant tells you to go find Susano, the man that Kushi mentioned if you talked to her. Just follow the red arrow to his house right next to the boulder. Enter his house and fall into the basement via the hole under the large pot (tackle it to break it). Once you find Susano, tackle him to wake him up. Ammy isn't going to accept Susano's excuses to not come with you, so he'll now be riding atop her. Leave his house and head to the boulder. For some fun, feel free to talk to the villagers while Susano is riding you for some comical dialogue. Susano will, uh, run off again to avoid having to break the boulder. Head back to his house to find him sleeping at his training ground behind it. If you talk to him he'll mutter that he's all out of sake. Hmm, perhaps if we get him more? If you talked to Kushi you'd know that she's the one that brews the sake. Kushi can't make sake while her mill's water wheel is broken, though. Scribble all over it to Rejuvenate the broken bit, then head inside the mill. Talk to Kushi and she'll thank you for fixing the mill, and as a reward will drop the Vista of the Gods sake. Bite it to pick it up, then leave and head back to Susano. After approaching him, he'll be ready to start training. Finally! Talk to him to get him to train by slicing straw dummies. Susano isn't exactly a competent swordsman, so when he slices the dummies (and the rock at the end), you'll need to Power Slash them to destroy them instead. Well, whatever builds self-esteem I guess. Repeat this process for the boulder blocking Kamiki's exit. Sakuya will talk to you after Susano runs out of the village. She'll mention that she has several Guardian Saplings across Nippon, watching over and protecting the land. The evil curse around the land has wilted away the power of these trees, though, and they have lost the power they provide to the land as well as Sakuya herself. She'll mark the location of two nearby saplings you need to recover. You have two choices now. You can either leave the village and head to Shinshu Field, or buy some Feedbags and feed a few more animals in Kamiki for some Praise. I advise the latter first, but it's up to you. You probably won't have enough cash, so fighting some Demon Scrolls in Shinshu Field and coming back may be necessary. You'll want to buy some Seeds, Herbs, and Meat. You'll only need four, one, and one respectively for the animals in Kamiki, but it's best to stock up for the road. You'll be seeing a ton of animals. Near the Ultimate Mirror you will find a group of hares. Feed them with herbs to earn 6 Praise. Head back over to Mushi after this and find his dog Hayabusa. Feed him some meat to earn 10 Praise. You can also find a flock of sparrows walking around Mushi's mother in the turnip field, so feed them some seeds for 3 Praise. Continue up the hill and back to where Komuso is playing his flute. Feed the sparrows there for 4 Praise. Finally, head back to Susano's house. Behind the house and to the right of his training grounds are some more sparrows, giving 3 Praise. There's nothing else left in the village, so save the game and head out to Shinshu Field. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~4C.Restoring Shinshu Field~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview--Shinshu Field is the most beautiful field in Nippon, but it's currently cursed. You'll need to find a way to revive Guardian Saplings in order to restore beauty to the field. =============== ~Shinshu Field~ =============== Once you enter the field, note all the creepy black and red area. Head forward a bit and you'll find the Guardian Sapling that Sakuya mentioned. However, Ammy doesn't have any power that allows her to revive the saplings at the moment, so we can't quite revive the field just yet. The green scrolls you see floating around are Demon Scrolls. Touch one and you will enter a battle with enemies. Defeat them and collect the money they drop. Battling is the best way to earn cash, and if you wanted to feed the animals in Kamiki and ran out of cash, farming through Demon Scroll is a good plan. Also, whatever you do don't wander into the cursed zone. If you do, you will begin to lose ink at a quick rate and a Solar Energy unit appears above Ammy's head. If it runs out, you'll black out and appear back outside the cursed zone and will have lost an entire unit of health. Avoid that. At least ink will refill itself on its own. Just don't go into the cursed zone. Ever. All you can do is head left to Nameless Man's cabin. Head past him and go left and into the cave where the purple mist is coming from--Hana Valley. ============= ~Hana Valley~ ============= Pretty creepy place. It's all dark and musty. There must be something here that can help us, then. Save at the Origin Mirror right from the start. Obtain the Traveler's Charm from the chest up ahead, then cross the bridge to find a group of Imps dancing around a fire. When you approach them you will be flung into a fight with all of them. Once all of them have been killed, the nearby lake will be restor--, er, I suppose not. This curse is a bit too strong for that. Head through the tunnel now. Up on the next pathway you will encounter Cursed Trees. These trees have flames around them, and will shoot fruit at you when you get near them. You can Power Slash the fruit back at them to stun the tree, but simply running is also an easy way to just avoid them. Head across the next bridge and around the bend, avoiding another Cursed Tree. You should be able to spot Susano in the distance, but before you reach him you will have to fight a Yellow Imp and two Green Imps. Take the Green Imps out first. The Yellow Imp will dig and move underground, occasionally surfacing. When it does, spot where the drum and top of its head appears. Jump behind it before the imp fully surfaces, and it'll be confused. It's severely weak to a Power Slash, so draw one. If you can't do that, it'll beat its drum several times before charging a big thump on the drum, which will hurt you if you don't jump in time. The floral finisher for the Yellow Imp is also a Power Slash. The nearby wall painting will also be revealed, and you'll talk with Susano. He can't move the boulder blocking the path. For now, step onto the pedastal to the right, infront of the painting. Examine it and Issun will note something is missing. Draw a sun at the top right corner of the painting. This will make the boulder nearby explode, so you can continue on the path. Wall jump up onto the higher ledge once you reach it, then you'll find a small green sapling on the ground. Hmm. To the left of the sapling are some wooden bars. Power Slash them away, then follow the path. Save at the Origin Mirror if you need to, then enter the dead end room where Susano is. Apparently this sleeping bear here is disrupting Susano's "training", so we need to teach it a lesson. Like the last bout with Susano, just Power Slash all of the torches, then the sleepy bear once he attacks it. The bear will fall off the ball it was balancing atop of. The ball will turn blue, and now you can start pushing it. It's the same ball that was shown in the wall painting. Push it back to the room with the small sapling. It may take awhile due to how the ball like to roll in the direction you don't want it to very often. Once you reach the room, push the ball up one of the ramps at the top end of the room. Then tap the ball onto the small puddle of water up there. This will make a small fountain appear, holding the ball in midair. Now to complete the painting. Step on the sun symbol and the camera will zoom out, showing the sky. Paint the sun to make the light shine through the ball, causing the sapling to grow into another wilted Guardian Sapling. Just then, another constellation will appear. Draw both missing stars at the top end to make Sakigami appear, granting you the power of Bloom. Draw a circle on any withered plant to make it bloom with life again, and scribble over small patches of cursed land to restore their beauty. Try it out on the Guardian Sapling. Just draw a circle on it. This will restore the Guardian Sapling into a beautiful cherry blossom, as well as restoring all of Hana Valley back to it's former glory. You'll also get 30 Praise from doing this. Leave the sapling area. As you make your way back down the valley you will be ambushed by another Yellow Imp. Dispatch it and a small path of grass will be resotred, netting you 15 Praise. Feed the Boar and the Boar Piglet some Seeds to earn 9 Praise. Continue down the path and you'll pass the Cursed Tree again. This time, Power Slash its projectile. When it gets stunned, use Bloom on it to turn it back into a regular tree. You'll get 3 Praise for each restored Cursed Tree. Further down the path you'll go past a cursed path of grass. Bloom works on this too. Instead of a circle, scribble all of the grass. If you did it enough, you'll restore it and earn the Greensprout Tips scroll. Just past the grass is a second Cursed Tree. Bloom it up. Now, head across the bridge. There are two more Cursed Trees down this path, but also note the black wilted trees. You can Bloom those too. You'll get 1 Praise for each wilted tree you Bloom in the game. Just past this Cursed Tree is a small rock you can jump on (the wall is green behind the rock). You can wall jump up to a high ledge here. Dig the green spot and Bloom the clover that appears for 5 Praise. After blooming these trees, continue back down through the tunnel to encounter the dancing Imps again. After this fight you'll get 15 Praise for restoring the nearby island on the lake. Monkeys will also appear here, so feed them some Seeds to get 9 Praise. Jump onto the island you restored. Dig up the green spot on the ground to make a clover appear, then Bloom it for 5 Praise. Grab the Digging Tips scroll from the chest as well. Now, Bloom the wilted tree on the island as well as the other seven trees around the entrance area. If you've followed this guide you will have Bloomed all of the wilted and Cursed trees in Hana Valley. This will make a chest appear next to the wall painting. Go back and open it up for a Sun Fragment. Collect three of these to earn an extra Solar Energy unit. This is your first. There's only one thing left in Hana Valley. It's best to do this at night because specific direction aren't easy to describe. Just past the tunnel where you fought the dancing Imps, look at the first tree on the left. Next to the base is a spot where you can dig up a chest containing Stray Bead #11. At nighttime, this spot will be lit up with a white light, making it much easier to find. In any case, head back to Shinshu Field when your tasks are done here. =============== ~Shinshu Field~ =============== Head straight directly for the Guardian Sapling. Use Bloom on it to turn it back into a cherry blossom, as well as fully restore Shinshu Field to it's former glory, ridding it of the entire cursed zone. You'll also earn 30 Praise for your efforts. Sakuya's tree also appears to have sprouted back to life a bit. It appears restoring Shinshu Field helped her as well. Grab the Fleeing Battle scroll from the chest under the sapling, then save the game at the Ultimate Mirror. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~4D.Running through Shinshu Field~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview--Now that the entire field is open to us, there is a lot to explore. Issun has marked several key locations you will want to check out in the field, and there are still several cursed areas you can clear up for Praise, not to mention all the animals that are roaming around. There is a lot to do. Near the Guardian Sapling, between it an Kamiki Village, is a patch of cursed grass. Bloom it to earn 10 Praise. You should also feed the Boar Piglets that appear for 15 Praise. Also near the path leading to Kamiki Village and up a short hill you'll find an old gate. This is a Devil Gate, and they are all over Nippon. They are teeming with evil power as you could probably guess. Enter it and you will face off against several waves of enemies. There's a bunch of Red Imps in this fight. Once they are all defeated, the Devil Gate will be destroyed and part of the land will return. Grab the Vengence Slip inside the chest that has formed. Now, head up the winding path up the nearby hill. Head right at the top and go for the building that you see. A Devil Gate should be pretty obvious to see (it's pretty much right infront of the building). Enter the gate and you will have to fight several Yellow and Green Imps. A pond will be restored once you destroy the gate, and you will earn 15 Praise for your efforts. Feed the pigs near the door for 9 Praise, then head inside the building. Talk to Onigiri Sensei, the master of the Dojo. He'll teach you new combat techniques, for a price. Most of these moves are expensive, or require you to have a different type of weapon equipped that you don't even have at the moment. Also, despite Fleetfoot sounding promising (and at the measly price of 10000 Yen), it's a very bad ability. It'll just irritate you the rest of the game if you buy it. Buy at your own risk, however. Golden Fury is the best ability here as you can "insult" enemies to earn free Demon Fangs in combat. But it's terribly expensive at this point in the game, so you'll just have to wait. Don't forget about the Dojo--you'll likely come back later to learn something. Back outside, head behind the Dojo. Look for three clumps of grass arranged in a triangle. Dig at the center of the triangle they form to find a chest containing Stray Bead #6. If you can't find it, wait until nighttime and look for the pillar of light to know where to dig. Head back to the path, leaving the Dojo area. At the intersection of paths you can find several horses. Feed them herbs to obtain 8 Praise. Now, jump up to the ledge higher than you and look in the sky and find the Agata Forest sign. Head towards it. You'll just reach a dead end--a river you can't swim all the way across. Issun comments a ferry should be leading to the forest, but isn't right now. Bust open the chest for the Feeding scroll, then Bloom the grass path on the left. You'll reveal a crack on the ground. How do we bust that open? Let's go find a way. Before you leave, feed the boars and boar piglets next to the sign that talks about Agata Forest for 15 Praise. Check the map. See the house on the bottom right of the map with the red circle? Head over there. After heading down the wooden staircase, a Dead Fish will ambush you before you reach the house. To kill these foes, Power Slash their wings off, then quickly kill them. When they get low on health they will try to grab you, and if you do they will explode, causing some damage. Kill the fish before they do that. Their floral finisher is the Power Slash. Go ahead an Bloom the wilted trees near the house, as well as getting the Legend of Orochi scroll from the chest. Now, you can't enter the house until it's nighttime, so go explore Shinshu Field some more until then. Once it's nighttime, return and enter the house. Talk to Tama several times. He'll say that he's a pyrotechnist, and he's trying to set off a huge chain of fireworks. He points you to a drawing on the wall. It's a circle with a line through part of it. Keep the drawing in mind. Tama will now throw a bunch of small bombs into the barrel, and then he'll expect you to draw something. Draw that bomb shape you just saw on the wall. First, draw a circle. Let go of the A button and move the brush to the top right part of the circle. Draw a line extending from a bit above the top right part to the center of the circle. If done right, a large bomb will appear. After the fireworks show, another constellation will appear. Paint the missing two stars and you will talk to Bakugami, granting you the Cherry Bomb ability. Issun will ask to demonstrate the new ability on the cracked wall nearby. Just draw the symbol again to place a Cherry Bomb next to crack. It'll explode, making a hole in the wall. You can go inside the hole and grab the Rat Statue from the chest. Also near the dock near Tama's house you can find some sparrows to feed for 4 Praise Remember that cursed grass near the Agata Forest entrance and how there was a crack below it? Now you can bust it open with the Cherry Bomb. It'll reveal a chest containing a Coral Fragment. Head back towards the entrance of Hana Valley. To the right of the entrance you will find a Devil Gate. Walk into it. You'll fight against a lot of Green and Red Imps. Once the gate is gone, you'll recieve 15 Praise for restoring the Nameless Man's Kiln. Go behind the kiln and to the left corner of the wall. Three clumps of grass can be found in the shape of a triangle. Dig in the center of this triangle to find a chest (wait until its nighttime if you're having trouble spotting the location), containing Stray Bead #8. Infront of the kiln you can also find and feed some herbs to some hares, earning 10 Praise. Now, follow the path next to the river, then follow the left path going up the hill next to the wall. You'll stumble across a man on the ground. To help Ida, hand him a Traveler's Charm. He'll give you 10 Praise as a result of helping him. Instead of continuing up the hill, head due right. You'll run straight into another Devil Gate next to the Guardian Sapling. You will face several Red and Yellow Imps here. The restored land will hand over 15 Praise, and you can earn 8 more by feeding the hares that appear. From where you fed the hares, jump up the ledge on the left. See the three clumps of grass that form a triangle shape? Dig in the center of the triangle (you can even see part of the chest above ground), revealing a chest with Stray Bead #7. Now, head up the hill. On the left is a clover spot that'll give 5 Praise when Bloomed. Head left from here and around the cliff so you can continue climbing the hill. When the path evens out you should find several more hares, worth 6 Praise. Head back to the Agata Forest river. However, just before reaching it you should see a large red gate. Head through it and down the hill. At the bottom, turn around and head to a ledge to the left of the hill. Bloom the two wilted trees, then dig up a chest at the center of the triangle pattern of grass to find Stray Bead #5 inside. Now, turn around again and enter the house at the base of the hill. Talk to Mika inside. The second time you talk to him he'll give you a wanted list of enemies. If you can kill all five of them, talk to Mika for a reward. The way this works is that these five enemies are all Red Imps, and are in certain Demon Scrolls in Shinshu Field. They only appear at night, however. For an example, step outside. You'll be forced into a fight with Biwamaru the Vandal. Don't worry--named monsters don't run away or anything. Once you beat him, you'll need to cross him off the monster list. Just draw a line across his name (it can be pretty tricky, so be sure to use the Z button to make a straight line). Finally, head to the right and towards what appears to be the empty lake. As soon as you pass through the gate...shrine thing, everything will change. You'll appear at the Moon Cave. At least, that's where it should be. Now there's a mountain here. Run up to the entrance and you'll...hit a force field. Seems that we can't enter this place. Ah well. Leave the Moon Cave area. We'll be back. If you've investigated every red spot Issun marked, he'll comment that you should have back to Kamiki Village. First, head back to the Guardian Sapling in Shinshu Field. A little behind the merchant you can find a clover that'll give you 5 Praise when Bloomed. Now, save at the Ultimate Mirror. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~4E.Reviving Sakuya's Tree~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview--A very short objective here. With our exploration of Shinshu Field done for now, return to Kamiki to revive Sakuya's once glorious tree. =============== ~Shinshu Field~ =============== Head back to Kamiki Village now. If you didn't investigate everything in Shinshu Field (every red dot should have disappeared). Before entering the village, Bloom the six trees for 6 Praise. If Issun stops you from entering the village because you didn't explore enough, keep trying to enter and tell him you are done exploring, and he'll quit being stubborn and let you in. ================ ~Kamiki Village~ ================ The village seems to be quite lively at the moment. Next to the red bridge you'll find Kumoso again. If you talk to him, he'll note that something amazing will happen if all fifteen trees in the village are in bloom. Hmm. Bloom the tree next to him. There's fifteen wilted trees in the village, and you need to Bloom them all. The second tree can be found next to Susano's house. Head across the red bridge and you'll find the third tree on the right, as well as another further to the right near Mrs. Orange. The fifth tree can be found infront of Kushi's house, the sixth behind Kushi's house, and the seventh outside Mr./Mrs. Orange's house (feed some seeds to the chickens here for 8 Praise if you want). Now, head up the hill leading to the top platform you visited near the beginning of the game. Bloom trees eight, nine, ten, and eleven on the left as you make your way up the first hill. Head to the top observation platform. Around the small pond at the top are the last four trees. If you bloomed all 15 trees, talk to Mr. Orange on the observation deck. He'll perform a dance to fully restore Sakuya's tree. He'll do half the work--you gotta do the rest. Obviously, manually Bloom the buds yourself. This part can be infuriatingly hard due to have only one chance at blooming the bud, and if you fail you have the watch the entire dance all over again. Try not to lose patience. Just make nice smooth, quick circles with the bud as the focus point. As for the final bud, make sure the paint mostly covers the leaves and not the sky. If it covers mostly the sky you may end up doing Sunrise by accident, and then you'll just need to start the dance over again. If you bloomed all five buds successfully, Sakuya's tree will become an amazing cherry blossom. She will also talk to you and hand over 30 Praise for your success. After she leaves, another constellation will appear. Paint the two missing stars to have Hasugami hand over the Water Lily ability. Now you can create lily pads on water and use them to cross long stretches of water. Hmm, wonder where we can use this? Try out the power in Kamiki as Issun asks. All you need to do is draw a circle on the water. This will make a lily pad. After Issun is done talking, jump to the island. Make another lily pad closer to it if you can't make the jump, then grab the Sun Fragment from the chest. You should be able to see another island a bit further out. Make more lily pads to reach it, dig and Bloom the clover to receive 5 Praise. Wait until nighttime on this island and you'll find two glowing lights on the ground. Dig them up to discover an Inkfinity Stone in one chest (a useful item that grants infinite ink for about two minutes when used), and Stray Bead #3 in the other. The only thing left in Kamiki is to head back to Sakuya's tree. Every time you revive a Guardian Sapling she will grow a fruit on the tree that you can cut down (remember that you must walk under the grey arch to reach the tree, not walk around it). The fruit contains a Bull Horn, worth some cash if you sell it to a merchant. Your tasks are finished here. Buy some more feedbags if you are running low, and some health items will also be quite useful a little later on. Save the game at the Ultimate Mirror. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~4F.Investigating Agata Forest~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview--Agata Forest is a large place, but you'll need to restore the Guardian Sapling to explore it. That won't take very long, but you may spend a lot of time looking through what the forest has to offer. =============== ~Shinshu Field~ =============== Leave Kamiki Village and head back to Shinshu Field. Remember the waterway that led to Agata Forest? Now you can cross it. If you forgot where it is, Issun marked it again on your map. Just follow the hill west of Kamiki and at the top, jump up the ledge nearby and you will be close to the waterway. It's to the right of the large red gate leading to the Moon Cave, remember? You know what to do. Use the Water Lily ability to make lily pads on the water. After about half a dozen of them you will reach a ledge you can wall jump up to. At the top, enter Agata Forest by using a Cherry Bomb on the large crack. ============== ~Agata Forest~ ============== Almost the entire forest has been cursed, so I guess that makes finding the Guardian Sapling easier, yeah? Follow the path down the hill on the right and continue all the way until you reach the beach. There is a tunnel on the right, so head through it. You'll find a house sitting beside a small pond. Save at the Ultimate Mirror if you wish, and ignore the chest that are on fire. You can't get their contents for quite a while. The house is home to Madame Fawn. Open the chest near her desk for Stray Bead #12, then talk to her. For a few hundred Yen, she'll tell you your fortune. It is basically a hint at where you are supposed to go. There isn't any need to get your fortune told right now since you know what to do, but if you ever get stuck in the future feel free to come here. Her most recent fortune is recorded in the Logbook section of the Fan Menu. Head back to the beach. Instead of going up the wooden stairs, head past it. There's a very thin path attached to the wall and next to the water. Follow it all the way to the waterfall. There is a tunnel behind the waterfall, so run through it. Cherry Bomb the crack at the end and, viola, there's the Guardian Sapling. Bloom it to fully restore Agata Forest. You'll earn 30 Praise for the intervention, and a chest will appear under the tree. Open it to earn the Devout Beads, a rosary. Issun will now explain how to equip a main weapon and a sub-weapon. Select the Devout Beads in the Equipment part of the Fan Menu, then choose either Main or Sub-Weapon. I prefer rosaries to every other type of weapon, so using them as the main weapon is probably for the best. Plus, they require NO timing in combat. Just flail the Wiimote wildly and you'll kill enemies. Really cool. Equip the Divine Retribution as a sub-weapon for now. You can use it in combat with the Z button. Now, dig up and Bloom a clover behind the sapling for 5 Praise, then feed the hares for 6 Praise. Leave the cavern and head back through the waterfall. Not soon after leaving the cave you will encounter Waka. He seems to be an...interesting fellow. And like all nice fellows, he'll pull out two swords and will challenge you to a duel. Sweet. ------ ~Waka~ ------ Waka can be an annoying boss, especially if you don't have very many units of Solar Energy. Almost all of his attacks takes off a single unit, and the damage will add up quickly if you can't dodge his attacks. The Devout Beads are the best weapon to use here. Waka has quite a lot of health, while you most certainly won't. Attacking from a distance is best here as all of Waka's attacks are very short ranged. As long as you spam the beads, and keep a safe distance from him, you'll win within a few minutes. That doesn't mean you can be careless, as some of his attacks are a bit tricky to dodge even at range. He can swing his sword and send a small orange missle at you. It's quite annoying, as due to the color of the wall it can be almost impossible to see occasionally. Next he can hold his green sword above his for a split second before charging at you. Jump to avoid his attack. Occasionally he will pause and make three quick swipes. He'll lose color after this attack, at which point you should use a Power Slash or Cherry Bomb to inflict a lot of damage. Other than this, just keep pelting him. Use healing items when you get low on health and he should fall in no time. Remember, jumping avoids pretty much all of his attacks, so always jump when you are afraid of getting hit. ------ The two-bit prophet will predict something about a big log and thrills, but you should just put it at the back of your mind for now. Well, with Waka out of the way we can explore what Agata Forest has to offer. Checking the map, you'll notice that the lake has several small islands on it. A few of them have giant buds on them. These are buds with colored dots inside. You can't miss them. If you use Bloom on them you will make them sprout, earning you the treasure they were guarding. Most of items are just useless treasure you can sell for case, but some of the stuff is healing items and temporary strength increasers (the Steel Fist Sake), useful for later. On one of the islands you can find Kokari, a small boy fishing. Keep talking to him and he'll say that he was with his dog Ume, exploring the Tsuta Ruins. He got scared in the temple and ran out of it, but ended up trapping Ume inside. The key he used to get in was dropped into the lake. He'll start crying about how he's broken all his fishing gear. Tackle him to snap him out of it. You'll now get to play a fishing minigame, and it doesn't suck compared to many other fishing minigames you may have played. All you have to do is draw a line from the pole to the fish you want to try catching. When you do that, the fish will be hooked and two meters will appear. One is the power gauge, the other the life meter. Hold the control stick in the opposite direction the fish is moving to reel it closer, making the power gauge rise. Once it's deep in the green section, keep tapping the control stick in the opposite direction instead of holding it. This will make the face above the meter stay still in the green section. The higher it is, the faster the fish will get reeled in. However, if it is in the red section you will begin losing energy. Run out and you'll fail the minigame. Once the fish is close enough, shake the Wiimote when the icon appear to make the fish leap out of the water. Power Slash it to catch it. After catching two fish, only one large fish will appear in the water. This one's a bit tougher as it'll make the power gauge increase quickly, making it harder to keep deep in the green section. Be patient and reel in the Giant Salmon. The fish will spit out the Ruins Key, the item you need to enter Tsuta Ruins. You'll grab it from Kokari, so now run away and jump to the mainland nearby with two giant buds and some cursed grass. The Exorcism Slip is useful and the Wooden Bear sells for some cash. Draw over the cursed grass to bloom it, netting you 10 Praise. Several hares will also appear, so be sure to feed them for 4 Praise. Nearby is a home with a large arrow at the top of it. Nobody is inside of it, but you can feed the Nightingales some seeds for 3 Praise. Also behind the house on the sand you can find the top of a chest handle poking out of the ground. Dig it up to find Stray Bead #13 inside. If you can't find it, wait until nighttime and the spot will be lit up. Now, head towards Tsuta Ruins (the red dot on the map marks it). Instead of going down the hill, jump onto the cliff to the left and head towards the crack in the wall. Infront of the wall you can find a chest handle poking out of the ground. Dig it up to obtain Stray Bead #14. If you can't find it, as always just wait until nighttime and it'll be lit up. You can bomb the crack, but nothing is inside but a pillar you can't climb. Head to the entrance of the ruins. Open them up if you wish, but there's a little more to do still. Feed the deer infront of the ruins door for 8 Praise. There's some more deer a bit left of the door, good for 8 Praise. Open the chest for the Enhancing Weapons scroll. More info on that to come later. Nearby is a Devil Gate. You'll find two Red Imps and a Yellow Imp inside it. Nothing too hard to kill. 15 Praise is your reward for restoring the land, and another 3 Praise for feeding the sparrows. Oh, and it appears Susano is here. Talk to him to find out the bridge to Taka Pass nearby is out, and keep heading right. Feed the deer here for another 8 Praise. Keep heading right and you'll encounter more deer for 12 more Praise. A little further ahead is a merchant, but he's actually a Demon Fang trader. Grab the Battle Tips scroll before talking to him from the chest. You can trade Demon Fangs you've collected for rare treasures. The Golden Peach fills one Astral Pouch instantly, so that's useful in a bind. The Golden Bell is a holy artifact that drive Demon Scrolls away from you when equipped. The Wood Mat is a holy artifact that, when you sleep (don't touch the control stick for about 15 seconds), you'll restore health for about 150 Yen per Solar Energy unit. Finally, the best of all, is the Golden Lucky Cat holy artifact. When equipped, any items (in battle or in the overworld) will automatically be dragged into you. You'll never have to manually collect anything ever again. However, the 50 Demon Fangs needed is a bit steep, and you'll only have that amount if you've floral finished pretty much every enemy you've fought so far. Get the Golden Lucky Cat if you can. The Wood Mat is also useful. Besides that, don't get anything else. Kiba will always be here, so you can come back later when you have more Demon Fangs. Head up the fenced pathway leading towards Taka Pass. Near the beginning of the path are some sparrows you can feed for 3 Praise. Follow the riverbank right of Kiba and you'll encounter a Devil Gate. You'll face two Dead Fish and a Yellow Imp here. You will receive 15 Praise for restoring the land, and 9 more for feeding the monkeys. Nearby you can find Karude, Kokari's father. He'll talk to you about Kokari and how he found Ume. Near him you'll find an actual merchant booth. Buy the Gold Dust here--it can be used once to power up any weapon you have. Save it for later, though. This is the cheapest you'll find it, too. Stock up on feedbags as well if you need to. Head right of the merchant and up the hill on the left with a fence on the side. At the top you'll be at Hitoshio Spring. Feed the deer on the right side of it for 12 Praise. Swim under the waterfall dumping into the spring to find a hidden cave. Bloom the cursed grass at the end to make a giant bud with an Incense Burner inside appear. Jump down the the beach and head through the tunnel to Madame Fawn's house again. Feed the hares to the right side of her house for 4 Praise. Everything in Agata Forest has been accounted for. Head back to Tsuta Ruins' entrance and enter it. If you lost the key, go back to Kokari and tackle him to make him drop the key. Then, bite it to grab it and head back to the entrance to open the door. When you get in, save the game. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~4G.Rescuing Ume in Tsuta Ruins~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview--Tsuta Ruins is the first "dungeon" area of the game. You will need to solve several puzzles to reach the end of th dungeon, and then defeat the boss that lurks there. Watch your step! ============= ~Tsuta Ruins~ ============= Save your game at the Origin Mirror on the left. Issun notes the purple water. As he (and you, I'm sure) guess, it's quite poisonous. Lily pads will just deterioriate instantly, and you'll lose a unit of energy if you fall into it. Avoid the purple water at all costs. Head left at the beginning. You will reach a dead end, however there's a Cursed Tree you can Bloom for some Praise. There's also an island in the water with a giant bud on it, containing an Exorcism Slip S. Get a running start, then jump to it to avoid falling in the water. Back at the mirror, now head right. Grab the Enhancing Divinity scroll from the chest, the Traveler's Charm from the giant bud next to it, then keep heading right. Bloom the Cursed Tree up ahead, and get the Steel Soul Sake from the giant bud right next to it. Get the Vase from the chest up ahead, then enter the door to the next room. There are two Cursed Trees in here. One of them is right next to the door used to enter this room (on the left, don't miss it). The second Cursed Tree also has a clover next to it which'll give 5 Praise when Bloomed. Once that's all done, move into the next room. Head forward in this room until you reach a ledge. Grab the Incense Burner from the giant bud, then wall jump to the ledge above you. Turn around once you get up there and follow the path on the wall. At the end of the path is a clover you can Bloom for 5 Praise. Head back to the ledge and continue forward now. Use lily pads to cross the water, then wall jump up the ledges. At the top, grab the Steel Fist Sake from the giant bud, then head past the stone ball to find an odd enemy. This is a Bud Ogre. To defeat it, keep attacking it until it falls over an a red circle encompasses it (using the Power Slash on one of the projectiles it spits will also do this). Use Bloom on it to grow the bud, revealing an inner core. Bash at this to lower its health. After a few seconds the bud will close and you'll need to repeat the process again to expose the core. Their floral finisher is Bloom. Once defeated, the stone ball will turn blue. You can now push it, just like in Hana Valley. See the switch in the ground near where you fought the Bud Ogre? Push the ball onto it. This will lift the nearby door so you can proceed into the next room. Not long after entering this room you will be ambushed by two Bud Ogres. Just repeat the process for defeating these guys. Dodging both of their attacks as you try injuring them can be a bit difficult, but just remember to keep jumping if you are afraid of getting hurt. Once killed, the land will be restored and you'll get 15 Praise. A log with some mushrooms will appear. Move the camera so you can see the sky above you, then paint the sun. This will make the mushrooms grow into large platforms you can use to reach the ledge above. Before going up there, break the wooden bars nearby with a Power Slash and Bloom the giant bud to get a Vengence Slip. On the ledge above you can move past a few blue rocks to reach a cracked wall. Cherry Bomb it and head into the next room. Head through this lonely hallway and into the next room. There's a wooden bridge here, so follow it to the next room (and don't fall down or else you'll have to go through the previous five or so rooms to get back to this point). In this room you'll see a huge bridge. As soon as you step forward, Issun sneezes and it'll start to break. Start dashing towards the end of it! If you don't dash right away you probably won't make it to the end in time. Once you dash for a few seconds and Ammy starts sprinting, you will know that you'll make it to the end and into the next room. Past the small bridge is a locked door. Interesting lock. Fall down to the bottom of the room. Once there, talk to the stone wall with a face that seems to be blocking a hole. This is Blockhead. To destroy him, tackle him. Two dots will light up. Bring up the canvus and paint the two dots in the order they appeared. The spots they appear is random, but there's only two of them so there's not a terrible amount of memorization. If done correctly he will be destroyed. You know have access back to the room you started in. Save at the Origin Mirror if you wish. But the big thing about destroying Blockhead is that a key appears on the ledge nearby. Grab it, and head up the wooden platform around the room. They are thin, so take your time so you don't fall. After the second log you should see a black statue in the wall. Tackle to destroy the three small statues infront, then Cherry Bomb the statue. Bloom the giant bud for Stray Bead #18. Now, keep heading up the logs. At the top, walk to the locked door to place the key inside, destroying the lock, and enter the next room. Grab an Exorcism Slip S from the giant bud on the right when you get to the main area of the room. Avoid the blue Demon Scroll unless you want a bunch of Imps, then head left. You'll come to a broken bridge, so paint all over it to rejunvenate it. Up ahead is an Origin Mirror. Head up the ledges to the left to enter a room you were in earlier. On this previously unaccessable ledge, there's a clover on the left worth 5 Praise. Head back to the mirror and go into the next room. There are three Devil Gates in this room. Grab the Lacquerware Set and a Holy Bone S from the giant buds behind the Devil Gates, then destroy all three of them. None of them are terribly hard--just a bunch of Imps and some Bud Ogres. Nothing you can't handle at the moment. Once you have purged all of the gates you'll restore the area and earn 15 Praise. Some small mushrooms will also appear, so like before turn the camera to find the sky and paint the sun. The camera will show some statues puking the purple poison into the water after growing the mushroom. Jump onto the ledge and run over to the statues. Destroy them all with tackles or Power Slashes and you'll earn 20 Praise for purifying the water. You can grab the chest nearby for the Tsuta Ruins Map, but it's useless now as we're almost done. Jump down the waterfall and as soon as you do turn around. There's a tunnel through the waterfall. Swim into it and Cherry Bomb the wall back there to reveal a small cave with a giant bud. Bloom it to earn Stray Bead #19. Now, swim down the stream. Make lily pads to restore your oxygen meter when needed. When you fall down the huge waterfall, hold right and try to land on a small ledge below. Bloom the clover here for 5 Praise. You're back in the starting room, and you should notice several platforms in the water leading to the center of the giant statue. Enter it. Bloom all three patches of cursed grass and earn 10 Praise from each of them. When you do, the floating flower will open up, and a new constellation will appear. Paint the two missing stars to have Tsutagami teach you Vine. See the Konahana Blossom? Simply draw a line from it to Ammy and you'll be grabbed by the blossom and pulled ontop of it. Now you can use them as platforms and ways of crossing large gaps when they appear! Climb to the top of the room using the blossoms, then head back outside. You'll be high up on the statue. Follow the spiraling pathway to the right until you can't anymore, then use the Konahana Blossoms to make your way to the top of the statue. Once there, attach the blossoms to the four hooks on the statue's head. When all four vines are connected, the hatch will lift off, and you can jump into it. Save at the Origin Mirror down there, then head into the next room. Grad the Holy Bone S and Godhood Tips scroll at the end of the long hallway, then head up the stairs. Choose to go into the next room when Issun asks to. Up ahead is a Golden Gate. When you step through one the game is temporaily saved. If you die you'll restart from the gate. Be warned that it only works if you don't turn the Wii off, otherwise you'll just restart from the last actual save point. Jump into the pit below and get ready for the boss. -------------- ~Spider Queen~ -------------- This boss is relatively simple. All of her attacks are easily dodged, but figuring out how to hurt her is a bit difficult. Her attacks consist of shooting energy balls at you, running towards you, stomping on the ground, and shooting a massive web at you. You will dodge all of these attacks if you stay on the outside of the arena and keep running in one direction. You should notice the hooks on the Spider Queen's back. Also, there's a bunch of Konahana Blossoms. Bring up the canvus and move the camera behind the queen. Attach a vine to one of the hooks. After attaching two vines the Spider Queen will be stunned, and her bulb will open up. If getting the vines attached is too difficult, there's another way to stun her and give you a chance at attach them while she's stunned. Occasionally she will spawn a tree atop her claws. When she does, Power Slash it to stun her. The other way to stun her is when she occasionally shoots a string shot to the ceiling and climbs it. Power Slash the string and she'll fall to the ground, stunned. When the bulb is open you'll see eight eye things. Power Slash all of these at the same time with one line. Keep doing this to deal a ton of damage to the queen. After several seconds she will close the bulb and you'll have to repeat the process to hurt her. After all the eyes are destroyed, she will be dead. -------------- You'll have saved Ume, and will earn Snarling Beast, the second reflector in the game. I prefer, rosaries, but use whatever you wish. Save when prompted and you'll be taken back outside the ruins. **Note--You can obtain Stray Bead #20 inside Tsuta Ruins now if you wish. Remember the room where you had to roll the blue ball? It's not too far in the ruins. There's a Konohana Blossom in there as soon as you jump up the ledges across the pond. Vine up to it, follow the path to the end, and Bloom the giant bud to get the Stray Bead. ============== ~Agata Forest~ ============== There's a little left to do in Agata Forest and we'll be done for awhile. On the southwest island you can find a Konohana Blossom. Vine to it and the blossom will drop you onto a branch with Stray Bead #15. Now, remember Hitoshio Spring? Head left and go to the merchant. Run up the hill with a fence next to it to the right of the merchant to reach the spring. Look at the top of the tree the water is pouring from. Vine to the blossom to drop into the water, draw a lily pad, then tackle the chest for Stray Bead #16. Okay, we're done here. Time to go forward to Taka Pass. Look on the map and find the arrow on the left side of it. That's the entrance to Taka Pass. It is right next to the Demon Fang trader (all of this is west of Tsuta Ruins). When you reach the raging river, Kokari will use his fishing rod to lasso a rope to the other side. Sadly, Susano will come barreling by on a giant log, and he'll end up dragging everyone else along. You need to stop the log before it goes tumbling over a waterfall in two minutes. This minigame can actually be frighteningly difficult. You'll need to use six Konahana Blossoms and vine them to each of the six hooks on the log. The blossoms will appear on the left and right edges of the stream, but only one at a time. Worse, they rush by quickly. Like, you only have one second to react to them. Any longer and you'll miss it. Note that whenever you hit the B button you use up one Ink Pot. You start with 15 and earn 5 more for each vine you attach. Waste all the pots and you'll have to start the minigame from the start. You have plenty of time, so just pay attention. Blossoms only appear on the side of the river to log is drifting to. When it's drifting left pay attention to the left shore, and vice versa. As a final note, connecting the vines can be a real pain because they occasionally tend to not register. There's nothing that can be done about that. Just let go of the vine and try again with the next one. Once you attach all six vines, the log will fly back to where you were standing earlier, now making a nice bridge. Whee! You'll also earn 10 Praise. Feed Ume for 10 more Praise. Cross the bridge and feed the hares on the other side for 4 Praise, then grab the Ink Bullet Tips scroll from the chest. Head straight into Taka Pass now. =========== ~Taka Pass~ =========== Ah, it appears this place is cursed too. Talk to the Tea Master to learn that she's lost something because of some moles, and feel free to restock on supplies with the merchant. Just ahead is an Ultimate Mirror, so save the game. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~4H.Taka Pass--Restore and Explore~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview--We're going to have to restore the Guardian Sapling somewhere in Taka Pass. Judging by the size of the cursed zone, you can imagine that we are going to have a large area to explore once the curse is lifted. =========== ~Taka Pass~ =========== Follow the path past the Ultimate Mirror. You'll find a crack in the wall. Cherry Bomb it and head down the cavern hallway that opens up. You will come up to an open area, but it appears Waka already beat us here. It seems the last fight with him wasn't enough, so here's the rematch. ------ ~Waka~ ------ The rematch is almost exactly the same as the first fight. Fighting from a distance with rosaries is the best way to kill him. He retains all of the same attacks as the previous fight, so basically whenever he stops moving you should jump to avoid the oncoming slash or missile he shoots at you. His new attacks is where he will swing wildly several times, and where he will hold his sword infront of him and dash three times across the arena. He gets stunned at the end of both attacks, so Power Slash him here to chip away a decent amount of his health bar. Speaking of which, Waka has a lot of it. It's a good idea to use a Steel Fist Sake to make the battle go a lot quicker because he has a ton of health. Just make sure that you use healing items whenever necessary. In such a long battle like this, you are bound to need them at some point. ------ Well, we need the Serpent's Crystal to reach Orochi. We can go find that later. First, look in the glistening pond to the right. See how some bubbles are rising in an odd spot? Power Slash the water where the bubbles are rising from. If done right you will break an unseen chest an Stray Bead #21 will float to the top. Swim and grab it. On the left side of the room is a wooden structure. Run all the way up it to the top of the room. Run through the hallway. Like in Agata Forest, just ignore the burning chests for now. When you are back outside, follow the simple path all the way to the Guardian Sapling. You can Bloom three wilted tress on the way there for some Praise. Scribble over the broken bridge to rejuvenate it, then walk across so you can Bloom the sapling. You'll get 30 Praise for doing so. And Taka Pass is now finally restored! You can jump back down the bridge to end up near the merchants are the start of Taka Pass, but you'll miss feeding some animals. First, feed the Nightingales to the side of the sapling for 8 Praise. Now, head back across the bridge and towards the cave where you fought Waka. On your way there you can find some deer to feed standing around the middle wilted tree for 16 Praise. Once you feed them, head back down the path. Next to the tunnel's entrance, go right. You'll encounter some horses that you can feed as well for 8 Praise. Turn around and face away from the entrance. In the air is a Konohana Blossom. Vine up to it, and keep vining through several more blossoms higher in the air. When you get high in the air you can continue along the path or vine yourself to a blossom that will drop you onto a ledge with three clovers, giving 5 Praise each. Vine back to the blossom and continue along the blossom route and you will eventually drop onto a rock with a Tiger Statue in a chest. Head back to where you fought Waka in the cave. Behind the tree you can find a clover worth 5 Praise. There are also some foxes nearby. Feed them some meat for 6 Praise. Head down the tunnel and back outside. Save at the Ultimate Mirror nearby. A Devil Gate rests close to the Ultimate Mirror. You will find two Dead Fish and a Bud Ogre inside. Nothing too challenging I'd assume. Beat them all and you'll get 15 Praise for restoring the land. Feed the tigers that appear some meat to earn 10 Praise. Head left from them and go for a group of holes. Moley the mole will talk to you, and challenges you to a game. He stole an item from someone, and you need to tackle him to get it back. Follow the paths of dust from Moley's hole to track which hole he'll move to next. Since he's likely to intersect with other moles, you may get a bit confused as to which cloud is his. In that case, just guess. There are no special tips for this game other than hope you get lucky with his holes and just tackle him three times. After that he will drop the Teacup on the ground. Pick it up and bring it to the Tea Master near the entrance of Taka Pass. You will receive a Golden Mushroom in return, an item that won't have any use for a very long time. Now, follow the path past the tunnel leading to Waka. Near the intersection of several paths is a whiteish rock. Behind it is a dog you can feed for 3 Praise. Head to the intersection of paths now and you'll find a second dog worth 3 Praise as well. Now, head down the hill and towards the Cutters' house. The sky turns a creepy red. If you get near Mrs. Cutter she will start chasing you, so just run away. In the pond you can see a spout of water with rising lines and bubble, right? On the ground near it is a chest handle poking out. Dig it up to find Stray Bead #22 inside. There's nothing else you can do here right now, so just leave back to the intersection. Go back to where you fought Moley. You can find some Boar Piglets near the holes, so feed them for 6 Praise. Back at the intersection, head down the path that doesn't have a sign next to it. We'll go down that path later. Up ahead at the next intersection you can either go straight to City Checkpoint or right to Sasa Sanctuary. You can't progress anywhere in the latter, and there's nothing in the former right now (but there are some things on the way there, though). But, head down the path to Sasa Sanctuary. To the right of the grey arch are some sparrows you can feed for 3 Praise. Back at the sign, jump up the ledge on the left. Jump to another ledge on the left. Next to the empty spring is a Devil Gate. Enter it to fight a Bud Ogre and Yellow Imp. You'll get 15 Praise for fully restoring the spring. Talk to the girl and she will describe Mermaid Springs. These springs are all over Nippon and they have a green swirl in them. Toss a coin into it and you can warp to any other spring you've visited. You don't have any coins right now, so ignore it. Near the sign talking about the spring are some deer you can feed for 8 Praise. Run back to the Sasa Sanctuary/City Checkpoint intersection and head towards the checkpoint. On the grass a little right of the sign are some horses to feed for 8 Praise. Jump on the ledge to the left again and Bloom a wilted tree, then follow the path some more. On the left is a Devil Gate containing two Dead Fish and a Yellow Imp. You'll get 15 Praise for restoring the land, and 12 more for feeding the deer that appear. Now, head towards a man named Bingo across the path. Near the two wilted trees is a dig spot where you can find a chest with Stray Bead #23. Wait until nighttime to find the lit up spot. Also feed the foxes near Bingo for 6 Praise. We can't do anything with him right now, so don't waste your time trying to figure him out. Head back to the intersection of several paths, and now head up the path with the sign reading Kusa Village. As you make your way up the hill with stairs, feed some monkeys on the right for 9 Praise. Enter the village at the top. ============== ~Kusa Village~ ============== What? Why is this place cursed too? We'll have to find some answers. Save at the Ultimate Mirror ahead. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~4I.A DOG-Gone Search Quest~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview--It appears Waka wasn't kidding when he was making his prohecy. This segment will be quite long, and there's a lot to do before and during the search for these dogs. ============== ~Kusa Village~ ============== The curse in Kusa Village won't hurt you, but it will drain your Ink Pots. You can't draw anything here even if you wanted to because of the curse, so don't worry much about it. At the merchant, purchase a lot of meat (at least six of it), and the Pinwheel for some Praise later. The Infinity Judge is a third tier reflector, and is quite powerful. Stick to rosaries if you like them more. It costs a whopping 50,000 Yen, so you aren't likely to be getting it for awhile. Just keep it in mind incase you want it. The Gold Dust is also handy. Buy one or two of it and save it for when you get more powerful weapons. Head up the stairs and take the right path up the hill. It's a bit winding. Across the wooden bridge and up some stairs, talk to Princess Fuse. She will say that she's being possessed right now. A Blue Imp and two Green Imps will attack. Since you will have lost all of your Ink Pots by now, you can't use your weapons. Just tackle everything until it dies. In the future, Power Slash the paper kite Blue Imps use to ground them. Their floral finisher is Galestorm, an ability you don't have yet. After defeating them, Kusa Village will be rid of the curse. Keep talking to Princess Fuse and she will talk about the monster Crimson Helm that controls the monsters in Kusa Village. He resides deep in the Gale Shrine nearby. She says only the help of the Satomi Canine Warriors can break the barrier over the entrance to the Gale Shrine. She'll hand over the Canine Tracker, which will lead you to each warrior. Turn around and head down the stairs. Go left a bit and feed the chickens for 8 Praise. Follow this path a bit and near a wooden bridge you can feed some sparrows for 5 Praise. Head across the wooden bridge next to this spot and vine to the blossom. Vine to a higher blossom, then jump onto the platform. Feed the monkeys for 6 Praise. Now, cross the thin wooden beam to an altar on the other side. Hey, it's Blockhead again! Tackle him and he will reveal four weak points. Paint them in order to destroy him. It may be a bit tricky, so just keep tackling him until you get an easy to remember layout. Enter the cavern he was blocking to find a chest with a Bull Horn and two clovers worth 5 Praise each. Now, head back to the wooden bridge you used to reach Princess Fuse to begin with. Don't get on it--jump over the side on the right. You'll fall into a grove of bamboo and the Canine Tracker will start spinning fast. Feed the raccoons meat for 6 Praise, the Cherry Bomb the crack around the corner. Near the raccoons there's a clover worth 5 Praise, too. Enter the cave. At the end is Canine Warrior Rei. Open the Fan Menu and feed him some meat. You'll get 10 Praise, and he will take his leave. Just four more dogs to find! Leave the cave and fall down the ledge near the clover. Head down the hill, feed some sparrows for 5 Praise. Continue down the hill and talk to Mr. Bamboo. Seems the only way to help him is to get the sparrow clan to reopen Sasa Sanctuary. For now, enter his house at the bottom of the hill. Inside you can find a chest handle poking out of the ground. Dig it up to discove Stray Bead #28. Outside, use a Power Slash on the glowing part of the tree. This will reveal Canine Warrior Chi. Open the Fan Menu and feed him as well. That's two down! Head up the hill and you will find Susano near the top, mumbling in his sleep about some monster. Jump over the fence on the right to find a clover worth 5 Praise. Continue to the main area of the village again. Near the merchant is a cursed patch of grass. Bloom it up and you will get 10 Praise and discover that Canine Warrior Shin was hiding there. Feed him meat as well for 10 Praise too. Just two dogs left! Also, between two of the houses here is a man growing gourd on ropes. Feed the pigs near him for 6 Praise. Now, head back up the path leading to Princess Fuse. Before the wooden bridge you should spot a Konohana Blossom on the left. Vine to it and feed the chickens at the top for 8 Praise. Also, you should see a cave in the wall near the chickens. Jump into it to find Canine Warrior Ko at the end. Feed him meat for 10 Praise. Issun will note you should see Princess Fuse again, so follow his advice. Well, there's the last warrior. He doesn't look happy, either. Choose to pick a fight to begin the battle. -------------------- ~Canine Warrior Tei~ -------------------- Tei can be an annoying boss. All of his attacks are quite quick and painful, so you will need to be very careful, as well as quick with your own attacks. Every time the ball around his neck glows he will either perform a quick dash across the arena or make five quick swipes, moving in one direction. Those are his only attacks. Just remember to jump whenever his ball glows and you should be able to avoid any damage. -------------------- Princess Fuse will say that although you have found five of the warriors, there are still three more. She'll mark the locations on your map. First, walk next to Tei and choose to feed him meat from the Fan Menu for 10 Praise. Time to find the last three warriors, ja? You're done with your business in Kusa Village for now, so head back to Taka Pass. =========== ~Taka Pass~ =========== Remember the Cutters' house? It's the house in the valley a bit right of the entrance to Sasa Sanctuary. Wait outside of their house until it's nighttime. There's nothing in Taka Pass for the moment to divert your attention, so just be patient until night arises. Once it does, hop on down to their house. Avoid Mr. Cutter, then go to the right side of the house. A wooden plank can be walked on to the top of their house. You can see a bunch of wooden boards are hastily trying to cover up a hole in the roof. Use a Cherry Bomb to destroy them. Drop down the hole to enter their house. Mrs. Cutter is inside, sharpening her knife. Grab her (you'll need to hold the C button) and drag her into the moonlight shining into the house. Her shadow is a bit...creepy. This will trigger a fight against Mr. and Mrs. Cutters' true forms--Crow Tengus. These guys aren't terribly hard to take down. Use a Power Slash to knock off their wings. When you try attacking them, they will block themselves. Power Slash them again to make them vulnerable to attack. Repeat this process until they die. Their floral finisher is also Galestorm, and you still don't have it. Ah well. Once defeated, Mrs. Cutter's cage will be left behind. Inside is Chun, the sparrow clan's princess. Well, that'd expain why they didn't want any visitors since she was missing. Now just follow her to Sasa Sanctuary. It is just up the path nearby, through the grey gate. You must go through the gate, not around it, to reveal the entrance to the sanctuary. ================ ~Sasa Sanctuary~ ================ After entering the sanctuary, the boss of the tribe will be happy to see his daughter returned. As a reward you'll get full access to Sasa Sanctuary. Save at the Ultimate Mirror near the entrance. What a nifty looking place. Before entering, wall jump up the two ledges infront of the Ultimate Mirror to find a clover worth 5 Praise. Jump back down. Stand on the Ultimate Mirror and walk due left. You should near a piece of bamboo with water flowing into it. Stand infront of that and dig there to pull up a chest containing Stray Bead #30. Now, to the left and right of the actual entrance of the building are sparrows you can feed, for a total of 10 Praise. Now, enter the inn. There are some things to explore in here before actually progressing. Head to the second floor and enter the first room on the left. There's a merchant in here, so refill your feedbags. Also, notice the odd looking round doll thing. It's missing an eye on the left. Paint a dot on the white hole and the head will fly off, dropping Stray Bead #31. Head to the other room on the left side of the second floor. Feed the mice in here for 2 Praise. Back in the lobby of the inn, walk into the elevator on the second floor to reach boss Jamba's room. Walk up to him and you'll talk with him, and they'll mention the hot spring out back. First, grab all ten chests for a bunch of items and treasures. Useful for some selling money. Head back to the lobby and go behind the stairs to find some mice you can feed for 3 Praise. Head down the right hallway and into the next room. Talk with the bath attendant several times an Mr. Bamboo will appear. He knows a way to bring water back to the hot springs, and asks you to partake in a minigame. Choose yes, naturally. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Digging Minigame--Round 1 Base Time Limit--3 Minutes In the digging minigame your objective, regardless of who it is, is to get your escort to the bottom row of rocks. Once there the escort will point out which rock has the water in it, and you can dig it up to complete the game. Getting the escort down there is a lot more difficult. You have a time limit, but if you Bloom the giant buds around the maze you can collect a 20 second refill. To play, dig through the rocks with the C button. Light brown rocks need to be dug through once to be destroyed, dark brown rocks twice, brown rocks with cracks in them need to be Power Slashed, and black rocks can't be destroyed. Spiky rocks can't be destroyed either, but if you or your escort touches one then you will lose 5 seconds (and as a note, light brown/dark brown rocks can also be broken with one and two tackles respectively). There are brush techniques to help you, too. If you Power Slash your escort, they will turn around. If you use Bloom on them, they'll run faster. Keep it in mind. Now for the maze itself: From the rock you start on, dig through it. Dig through the next rock below you, the Power Slash another rock below you. You and Mr. Bamboo should fall into a small bed of water. Power Slash to rock on the left and get Mr. Bamboo to follow you there. Dig through the rock on the ground left of the water, then repeat for the next rock below you. You'll want to go through the next three rocks below you (a Power Slash rock, diggable rock, and another Power Slash rock), cross the waterbed to the right, and dig through one last rock to the right of the water. You'll be at the bottom bed of rocks. From where you fall, get Mr. Bamboo to walk on the rock one to the right. When he sticks his cane in the air and glows, dig through the black rock to clear the minigame. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- With victory comes the revival of the spring. Also, another constellation will appear. Paint the three missing stars to have Nuregami teach you Waterspout. Now you can control water. Just paint a line from the water to a target to send water there. Try it out by drawing a line from the spring to the flaming bath attendant. Also, see the bubbling part of the water? You've seen them before. Draw a vertical line from them to turn them into a fountain of water you can float on. Use them to reach new, high places! Try it out now as Issun instructs. When you land on the ledge, Bloom the clover for 5 Praise. Jump back down. See the enormous bamboo shoot near the locked door? Stand need it to make the camera zoom out. Now use Waterspout to make water flow into the open shoot. This will get the shoot to press a switch, opening the door. Head out the door and through the hallway. Up the first set of stairs feed the sparrows for 4 Praise. Up the second set of stairs feed some more sparrows for another 4 Praise (if you followed this guide, that was the final set of sparrows). Now, talk to the sparrow that's crying. Tai will say that his dog is lost. Hmm. The Canine Tracker appears now, too. Head up the last stairway. At the top on the right are some tigers you can feed for 10 Praise. Before focusing on the flashing bamboo, feed some more tigers to the left of those large bamboo trees for 10 more Praise. Now, Power Slash a tree when it has the glowing spot on it. You'll find Canine Warrior Gi inside. Choose to pick a fight to prove you're worthy. ------------------- ~Canine Warrior Gi~ ------------------- He is almost exactly identical to Canine Warrior Tei. His neck ball will glow whenever he is going to attack, but the difference here is that he is rather quick with his attacks and he like to jump all over the battlefield. As such it can be a bit of a long fight if he keeps jumping away from you. Also, he does three slashes and not five like Tei does in one of his attacks. Since he has a lot of health and normal attacks take a while, spam Cherry Bombs. Whenever he stops moving just lay a Cherry Bomb right next to him. If it's drawn right next to him it'll explode right away. It takes about 15 Cherry Bombs to kill him. When he's lost half of his health he will start digging holes. If you fall into one, keep trying to jump out of it. If you don't in time Gi will come over an pee all over you. What a bizarre attack. ------------------- After the fight Gi will hand over the Duty Orb. The warrior won't return, but you have his power, and that's good enough. Now there's only two more to find. Before leaving, feed him meat from the Fan Menu for 10 Praise. Also, head to the top right corner of this area to find a small altar with hares you can feed for 6 Praise. There are also two dig spots infront of the lights. Wait until nighttime to see them if you can't find them yourself. One contains a Golden Peach, the other Stray Bead #32. Head back to the hot spring. Mr. Bamboo will talk about the Kamiki Festival that's approaching, and then hands off a Mermaid Coin. Swim into one of those swirling green circles in Mermaid Springs and use the coin from the Fan Menu and you can teleport to any other Mermaid Spring you've visited. Very handy. That's all for Sasa Sanctuary. Head back to Taka Pass. Save on your way out. =========== ~Taka Pass~ =========== Don't use the Mermaid Spring here to go to Agata Forest--it's a short walk and there's something on the way there you'll want to do. Head to the entrance to Agata Forest. Before entering, talk to the man next to the Tea Master. If you bought a Pinwheel from Kusa Village, he'll take it and give you 10 Praise in return. Now enter the forest. ============== ~Agata Forest~ ============== Head across the log bridge and back into the forest. You'll find Kokari at the water's edge. Talk to him several times and he'll say he thinks Ume was eaten by the legendary fish Whopper. He'll mention a lady next to Hitoshio Spring, and that's where you'll want to head next. Remember it? Head left down the path and up the hill next to the merchant. You'll find that Kushi is gathering water here for the festival. Talk to her several times to learn more about the festival, then stand behind the barrel to make the camera zoom out. Use Waterspout to put water in the barrel. Do this three times to make it full, and several Imps will ambush you. No need for an actual fight, though, as Susano will come to save the day! And by that I mean you need to Power Slash all the Imps he attacks, much like his training targets. After Susano takes his leave, Kokari's yell will echo through the forest. The Canine Tracker will appear, too. Jump off the cliff infront of the spring and down to the tunnel leading to Madame Fawn's house. Head over there. Remember the burning chests? You can put them out with water. Use Waterspout on all three chests. The center one contains Stray Bead #17. Remember the island you first found Kokari awhile ago? It's the southeastern one, and it has the red circle on the map highlighting it. You'll see the monstrous Whopper leap out of the water breifly after talking to him. Talk to Kokari again and choose to help catch Whopper. You remember how to fish, right? Draw a line from the fish, keep tapping the control stick in the opposite direction of the fish to reel it closer and raise the power gauge (keep it as far right as you can, but not in the red section!), then shake the Wiimote when instructed and Power Slash the fish to catch it. After catching two fish the Whopper will appear. You'll have to reel him in two times to catch the sucker. When you do, another constellation will appear. Paint the three missing stars and Yumigami will teach you Crescent. Now you can make it nighttime whenever you wish my drawing a half circle in the sky to make the moon appear. Great for all those night-only events. Try it out now. After making the moon appear, Ume will pop out of the Whopper's mouth. Choose to pick a fight against Ume to test your strength. -------------------- ~Canine Warrior Jin~ -------------------- Jin is exactly like the previous warriors you have fought against, but like the last one he employs one new attack. He has the same attacks as Gi, but now he can also drop turds on the ground. There's not any other way to describe it, really. Don't get near his poop--it explodes after several seconds and has a rather large blast radius. Also like Gi, Cherry Bombs are the best way to whittle down his health. He rarely does any actual attacks (as usual, neck ball glows), and instead prefers to make holes and drop log bombs the entire match. Remember that dirt he kicks up when making holes hurts you too, so keep your distance. Spam Cherry Bombs and you can win easily. -------------------- You'll obtain the Justice Orb for beating him. Only one more warrior remaining and we can finally enter the Gale Shrine. Now, make your way back to Shinshu Field. There's two entrances to it, but it doesn't matter which one you choose. It's at the north end of Agata Forest on the upper level if you forgot. =============== ~Shinshu Field~ =============== Remember Ida? If you don't, he's laying near Nameless Man's kiln. Give him a Traveler's Charm to make him start running. Leave the field or enter/exit a building to refresh the area. You'll find him running around the field. Talk to him and challenge him to a race. This is probably the most misleading minigame in the entire game. He says "race" but you don't race anywhere. He'll jsut keep circling around the field, and you lose if you lose sight of Ida. To "beat" him, run up to him and tackle him. It can be quite hard, so try sidewiping him. If you manage to tackle him, you will earn 10 Praise. Nothing else left in Shinshu Field besides some sidequests that are meaningles to start now since you can't complete them yet. Head over to Kamiki Village. ================ ~Kamaki Village~ ================ Phew, almost done! The Canine Tracker will appear not long after entering the village. Save at the Ultimate Mirror, then look up at the nearby waterfall. See the Konohana Blossom? Vine up to it, jump onto the ledge to Bloom a clover worth 5 Praise, then get back on the blossom. There's another blossom higher up to the right of the waterfall. Vine there and jump onto the ledge. Follow it, and next to the top of the waterfall is a chest containing Stray Bead #4. Remember Hayabusa, Mushi's dog? Head over to him. He's actually Canine Warrior Chu. You can't pick a fight with him unless it's nighttime, so draw Crescent in the sky, then begin the fight. -------------------- ~Canine Warrior Chu~ -------------------- Chu will attack more often, and tends to dig a lot of holes once he is running low on health. He also tends to jump all over the place, making spamming Cherry Bombs quite difficult. It's still the fastest way to kill him because he has quite a large amount of health. Just be patient. His attacks are exactly identical to Tei's. Except now he digs holes. Just keep wailing on him and jumping over his attacks (and staying away from the dirt clumps he flings at you while digging) and you can get by without any damage. -------------------- The Loyalty Orb is yours once you defeat him. That's all eight warrios (and orbs) collected, so now we can finally enter Gale Shrine. You can head to Sakuya's tree and cut some fruit down for a few items if you wish. Head back to Shinshu Field once you're ready. =============== ~Shinshu Field~ =============== Head to the Mermaid Spring next to the Dojo. Jump into the water and swim to the swirling green part. Use a Mermaid Coin from the Fan Menu and choose to warp to Taka Pass. As a note, you can only warp there if you revived the spring by destroying the Devil Gate in Taka Pass. Otherwise, warp to Agata Forest and run to Taka Pass. =========== ~Taka Pass~ =========== Head up the nearby hill and enter Kusa Village again. ============== ~Kusa Village~ ============== With one quest finally over, save the game. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ~4J.Gale Shrine and Crimson Helm~ --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overview--It's time to finally enter the Gale Shrine and defeat the monsters lurking within. Luckily for you it's short and easy, and shouldn't very long at all. ============== ~Kusa Village~ ============== Head through the village and go into Princess Fuse's house. Talk with her, as if you've gotten the three Power Orbs then all eight of them will surround you. You can now use them as a key to open the entrance to the Gale Shrine. Leave and go to the left side of Princess Fuse's house. There is a dig spot near the wooden bridge arcing over the pond (it's on the side away from the house). Wait until nighttime and it'll light up, and you can obtain Stray Bead #27 inside. Now, head to the tunnel to the right of her house. When you get into the open area, head right of the Gale Shrine entrance to Bloom a clover worth 5 Praise. There's also some monkeys nearby worth 9 Praise. Now, enter the shrine. ============= ~Gale Shrine~ ============= Head right and follow the path hen you enter. Watch Susano talk in his sleep when you reach him, then walk forward to the door with the red barrier. A eight orbs will break the seal on the door so you can enter the main area of the shrine. Now, enter the dungeon. In the next room you can Power Slash the chests underwater and collect their treasures if you wish. Don't bother going forward and down the hill through the red gate. You can't do anything down there yet. Instead, go through the tunnel on the right. At the end is a Devil Gate. You will fight a Chimera inside. They are almost identical to Bud Ogres--just attack until the collapse. You don't need to Bloom them or anything when it turns grey to injure it, however. Just be careful because when it drinks sake it will breathe a wall of fire, so keep running to avoid it. The Power Slash is their floral finisher. A key will appear after clearing the gate, so grab it. Head back to the main room, then go down the hill through the red gate. Walk across the wooden bridge with some windmills on it and you will reach the locked door. Open it and save at the Origin Mirror, then head through the door to find you will be on an elevator. See the symbol in the middle? As you could guess, place a Cherry Bomb there to make the elevator go up a floor. Before doing so, stand near the gate so the camera zooms out to see the elevator, but you aren't standing on it. Cherry Bomb the center and the elevator will leave without you. Jump down the exposed hole where the elevator used to be and you'll be in a lower area of the shrine. Down here are three chests, one containing Stray Bead #33. Open the other chests and Bloom the two clovers for a total of 10 Praise, then feed the mice near one of the clovers for 8 more. Enter the green light to appear back on the elevator. Cherry Bomb it and head to the second floor. Up here you will find a Demon Scroll, so fight it. Defeat the lone Chimera inside to make a key appear. Grab it, fall down the elevator, then Cherry Bomb it. On the second floor, Cherry Bomb it again to rise to the top. The locked door will appear right away. Unlock it then walk onto the balcony. Quite dark up here. Head right, avoid the chest, then climb the numerous amount of stairs. You'll reach a flat area, then will climb one last staircase. As soon as you reach the top of it, turn around to find a long hallway in the wall with a chest at the end. Jump to the hallway (it's easiest to jump from the middle of the staircase) and open the chest for a Sun Fragment. Now climb the staircase again and walk onto the balcony. The door will lock. You will view the entire windmill, as well as the evil wind that is making it stop. You'll need to purge the three sets of evil wind. First, draw a loop, moving right to left. For the second wind, draw over the evil wind exactly, moving right to left again. For the third wind, make a left to right loop. And hey, another constellation will appear! Draw the three missing stars to make Kazegami teach you Galestorm. Simply draw a left to right or right to left loop to make a gust of wind blow right or left respectively. The bigger the loop, the longer the wind will last. Try it out on the small windmill above the door. Draw a left to right loop and the door will open. Nice. Run down the windmill. Near the elevator you'll find the chest is still burning. Now you're able to use Galestorm to snuff out the chest, though. Yay! Open it up to find the map inside (again, useless since we're very close to the boss now). Jump down the bottom of the elevator shaft. Cherry Bomb it and rise to the second floor again. Outside you will find the burning chest. Snuff it out with Galestorm and grab Stray Bead #34 from inside. Fall back down the shaft and leave the elevator for good. Step onto the wooden bridge outside with the windmills on it. At the first windmill draw a right to left Galestorm to make the bridge rotate, allowing access to a new area. Grab the Brush Tips scroll from the chest infront of you when you get off the bridge, then continue ahead. Ignore the fallen pillar for a moment and open the burning chest ahead for a Pearl. Return to the fallen pillar and climb it to the top. Jump off onto a ledge with a Lacquerware Set in a burning chest. Use the Konohana Blossom behind you to land right next to a chest containing a Steel Soul Sake. Turn around to find a blossom lower down. Vine to it and open the burning chest for an Inkfinity Stone. On the rafters to the right of the chest are some mice. Walk over to them carefully so you don't fall off and feed them for 4 Praise. Jump back down and climb the pillar. This time use the blossom infront of you to Vine up to a high rafter. There are no more blossoms and a huge gap ahead. What to do? See the banners on the left wall? Use a left to right Galestorm to make the banners float infront of you, forming a bridge. Make a large loop to make the wind last longer so you have enough time to cross it. On the next rafter is a chest with a Wooden Bear inside. On the rafter after that is an Exorcism Slip S. Jump down to the platform below and save at the Origin Mirror, feed the mice for 7 Praise (That's all the mice in the game if you're following along). Now, enter the door, head down the hallway by Galestorming the fire pillars, and enter the battle. -------------- ~Crimson Helm~ -------------- This battle couldn't have been made much easier. The Satomi Power Orbs will surround you for the battle, acting as a level 8 Godhood. Basically, you get eight free hits before you start taking damage. Yeah, simple. Crimson Helm's attacks consist of charging towards you (just run out of
