Compared to Q4 2007's releases of Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy, and Q4 2006's The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Q4 2008 on the Wii was the driest holiday yet for the little white shat-box.

Rumor has it that this dry spell wasn't always part of the plan. According to inside source, Nintendo was originally planning to present Kid Icarus Wii at E3 2008, then release the game a few months later. Due to problems with Factor 5 (the developer long rumored to have ties to the project), that plan fell through, which left Nintendo of America feeling "pretty bummed." Kid Icarus Wii may still come together if Factor 5 can find someone to give them lots of money (hint: Nintendo has lots of money)."
Wii news13/01/2009E3 2008: Miyamoto Almost Confirms Kid Icarus (Kid Icarus - Virtual Console)http://www.n4g.com/wii/News-170561.aspx
In the months leading up to the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2008, sources told IGN that a Wii remake of Kid Icarus was underway and destined to be unveiled at the event. Unfortunately, a day prior to the show, IGN learned that said project would not be on display after all. So when they met up with Nintendo mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto, they had Kid Icarus on their mind. The first question was, simply, where is Kid Icarus for Wii?
Wii news16/07/2008Kid Icarus at E3 2008 (Kid Icarus - Virtual Console)http://www.n4g.com/wii/News-161767.aspx
In a listing on e3.net, it's mentioned that Kid Icarus for the Nintendo Wii will make an appearence during E3 in a couple of weeks time.

"Released way back in 1987 for Nintendo Entertainment System, Kid Icarus remains one of the most challenging video games out there. A 1991 sequel for Nintendo's Game Boy failed to do much for the series, which has wallowed as nothing more than a fanboy dream remake ever since. Until now. Now, IGN's Matt Casamassina has basically confirmed that it's on the way to Wii. On their latest Nintendo Voice Chat podcast, Matt Casamassina and the gang discuss Reggie's recent comments about a holiday blockbuster to be announced at E3, and speculate that it could be the new Kid Icarus that they "know" is in the works.

Now, how Casassamassassassina and crew can be so absolutely sure that Kid Icarus is Wii-bound is beyond us. Highlights include Avalon Code, Mana Khemia: Student Alliance, Samurai Shodown Anthology, and Docomodake BOING!

Avalon Code (DS)
Avalon Code is an action RPG created by Matrix Software, the developer of Alundra for the PS1 and, more recently, the co-developer of the Final Fantasy III and IV remakes for the DS. Like in many RPGs, the looming end of the world is what drives Avalon Code's story. What's different here is the fact that your mission isn't to stop the end from happening. Instead, you've been tasked with scanning all that is good in the world into The Book of Prophecies so that when the next world is created, only the things that are worthy are brought forth. Once something has been scanned, you can change its properties as you see fit by tinkering with its parameters. If there's a monster that you think is too strong, change its attributes to make it weak. Want to turn that regular sword into a flaming one? Add fire to its code. At the very least, this mechanic makes Avalon Code one of the most unique action RPGs on the DS and something to look out for if you're tired of all the remakes that the system has been seeing.

-- -- -- --

Mana Khemia: Student Alliance (PSP)
This is a port of Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis, a turn-based RPG/school sim which was originally released last year for the PS2. It is considered the spiritual successor to the Atelier Iris series as it employs many of the conventions found in those games. Many of those who are familiar with the series consider Mana Khemia to be far superior to its predecessors in most respects save for the story (Atelier Iris 2 usually takes the cake in that department). The game was developed by Gust, a company that is well-known for its item-crafting systems and character development. I recently played through Ar tonelico II, so can attest to the company's ability to make item-crafting fun and ...
Wii news11/03/2009
