SEGA's Daisy Fuentes Pilates To Hit Stores On August 4TH (Daisy Fuentes Pilates)

SEGA of America, Inc. today announced that the interactive fitness title Daisy Fuentes Pilates will be hitting stores across North America on August 4th. Exclusively for Wii, Daisy Fuentes Pilates marks the first time a Pilates game has come to the Wii console.

Nintendo, EA, Ubisoft and SEGA are planning to get you in shape, each in their own ways. If there is one place the Wii is going where other current generation systems aren't, it's fitness gaming. E3 2009 showed even more fitness games are in development by third parties besides Nintendo. See details on some of the games announced, with workout equipment varying from the Wii Balance Board, resistance bands, camera and fitness gear. Nintendo also introduced the Wii Vitality Sensor, something that could possibly further the Wii fitness gaming experience.

One of the most important titles in the history of casual gaming can stand up proud this week, with Konami's Dance Dance Revolution dance mat series reaching the ripe old age of ten.

Known as Dancing Stage in Europe, the series first arrived in Japanese arcades on November 21st 1998 and quickly went on to become a gaming sensation. Konami ditched the traditional joypad or joystick and introduced a pressure-sensitive dance mat that registers when a player's foot hits each of the four directional pads.

It didn't take long for the arcade craze to make the move to consoles, and the series arrived on Sony's pioneering PlayStation in Japan early in 1999, bringing with it the first iteration of the console dance mat.

School Funds Gaming Gear For Exercise Program (Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party)

The Consortium for Public Education in the US has bestowed a Great Idea Grants to local schools with the projects developed including a Wii Fit and Dance Dance Revolution setup.

The programme running in Brownsville Area High School is called "Wii: Get Up and Move," what they refer to as a "creative solution to the serious battle against obesity and to promote healthy physical activity."

Video games that involve physical activity have become part of physical education programs in schools across the state of West Virginia.

When you think of video games and kids, the "couch potato" term may come to mind, but there are games growing in popularity that involve much more than your kids' thumbs and the controllers.

Games like Dance Dance Revolution and systems like Nintendo Wii involve kids engaging in physical activity as part of the games.

Study Says Video Games Can Give a Workout (Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party)

The American Council on Exercise (ACE) put the video game Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) to the test and fond that the game can be a very good workout for children. ACE commissioned the study out of the University of Wisconsin to look at the caloric expenditure of players during the game.

The study used male and female subjects from 12 to 25 years old and half the volunteers were under 18. The study showed that players had a marked increase in exercise intensity as they participated.

Adults burned more calories and on average teens burned 5.9 kcal/min on light, 6.7 kcal/min on standard and 8.1 kcal/min on difficult mode. Test participants used DDR Extreme 2 for the PS2 and a dance pad.

The regularly updated database will allow you to search any artist and any song to find out which rhythm games it is in and to compare song lists for any major music-based video game.

There have been a number of new stories about US schools using Dance Dance Revolution as a way to get kids who aren't into competitive sports or their required PE classes moving - now the Brits are getting in on the act. Despite the fact that the BBC couldn't be bothered to fact-check the name of the game title, they have a short piece on the use of DDR in Bedfordshire schools - they've just done trials, targeting it's use towards girls who aren't interested in traditional sports.

The last time we saw Dance Dance Revolution on the Wii, we were almost killed. Giving game journalists alcohol and then asking them to dance is dangerous enough. Konami announced today via a press release that a Dance Dance Revolution game will be released for the Wii sometime this year. According to the press release, Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party will somehow incorporate the Wii remote AND Nunchuk into the "timeless gamplay".
