May was a decent month for inquisitive detectives, futuristic refugees and toy pirates, but not so much so for the video game industry in whole. This is according to the bean counters at NPD, whose latest North American sales report reveals L.A Noire, Brink and Lego Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game as bestselling games in a month that saw significant dips in hardware and software sales across the board...

So I made a couple of jokes at the expense of the new Sonic trailer this week and I started to feel bad about it. For one, presuming the trailer’s for an actual game (rumored to be called “Sonic Generations”) then it’s a noble effort by Sega to address ridiculous fan outcry so there's no sense in stirring up the trolls.

More importantly, Sonic just so happens to star in one of the FINEST GAME CINEMAS EVER MADE! Of course I’m referring to the Sonic Adventure Intro, which I struggled to recreate using spankin' new footage from Infamous 2, L.A. Noire, Duke Nukem Forever, Red Faction: Armageddon, and tons of others. See all the trailers showcased in their entirety after the jump...

It takes more than bad press and negative reviews to keep the good Duke down. The video game number crunchers at NPD revealed Duke Nukem Forever was the second best-selling game of June, outgunned only by L.A Noire, which celebrated its second month at the top of the sales heap...

Our song inspiration comes from a trailer that just barely made in time for consideration. Oh, you haven't seen the Call of Duty Escalation DLC trailer?! Well, obviously we love that Rolling Stones jam, but to distinguish ourselves we chose this remix by DJ Earworm which mashes up “Gimme Shelter” with Moguai & Tocadisco “Freaks.” We think you’ll find it mixes damn well with choice cuts of L.A. Noire, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Call of Juarez: The Cartel and the newly unveiled Need For Speed: The Run. See all the trailers in their entirety after the jump...

Ever-ready to cut through critical bias and drummed-up presale data, Raptr has released its Raptr Report for 2011, with data on which games commanded the most player attention. The report breaks the year's releases down into categories, calculating total playtime by Raptr's 10+ million users over launch month, per-player launch-week playtime and launch-month session length. There's a few surprises in there, but the list's two standouts are both November releases...

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, L.A. Noire, and Batman: Arkham City will be the titles to beat this February as the AIAS has listed them as the top nominees for next month's 15th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards...

The British Academy Video Games Awards organizers have published their picks for this year's BAFTA GAME Audience Award nominees, and you may be surprised to see which games made the final cut. Or you may be completely unsurprised. Who knows? Either way, BAFTA is putting a sweet prize for everyone who votes on their favorite...

Sept 4, 2007 Four new retro titles have arrived on the Wii Virtual Console, the most notable of which is the excellent Genesis adventure Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole. For the ignorant, it has you play as elvish treasure hunter Nigel (yes, Nigel) as he undertakes a quest to gather treasure through the villages, caves and dungeons of Mercator Island. Joining Landstalker (which is the usual 800 Wii points, by the way) is NES side-scroller Adventure Island, obligatory TurboGrafx

"I would say without hesitation that our quality is going to be up this year versus the prior year," Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello said in a Tuesday earnings call.

Riccitiello has made it a very public priority to up the quality of EA's titles. A recent review score average of EA's titles was 77 percent, but Riccitiello said at an analyst meeting in February that he wants EA to exceed 80 percent by fiscal 2011.

If you've started playing Left 4 Dead 2: The Passing, the long-awaited DLC campaign that dropped today, you might have already noticed the little Easter egg Valve smuggled into the second chapter. If you haven't, though, there's a quick shout-out to Dead Rising, hidden amid the graffiti, that you might want to take a look at...
