Homecoming parades are as American as apple pie and diabetes type 2. But this year’s homecoming parade in St. Charles, Illinois had a unique videogame theme that we think anyone can relate to. Local residents came out in droves to support the East High School Saints at the special event. Students and faculty went to town with the theme, creating tons of game-themed floats, banners, and decorations for the event. Local vendors joined the fun too, decorating windows with iconic game characters…

Above: Not everyone’s happy about GameStop profits from pre-owned game sales

GameStop has released a three-month trading report, which shows a record sales for the quarter totaling $1.9 billion. It turns out that 47.4% of the videogame retailer’s profits come from sales of pre-owned games, totaling $250.2 million. Meanwhile, profits from new games sales totaled $182.4 million (21.7%), while hardware sales accounted for $21.7 million (7.9%)...

Nintendo has finally announced that it plans to again release demo versions of WiiWare games in North America... but the usual Nintendo caveats apply. Only a few WiiWare games will offer demos, and even when Nintendo does put up a free demo, it'll only be available "for a limited time."

If you haven’t picked up a copy of Tony Hawk: Shred yet, you’re not alone. The latest entry in the Tony Hawk series is struggling at retail, selling only 3,000 copies during its first week of sale. According to Cowan and Company analyst Doug Creutz, Shred was a “virtual no-show.” The low sales suggest that the eleventh official Tony Hawk game may be the last…

Above: A recent survey suggests that more gamers in Japan own the PS2, PSone, and GameCube than the Xbox 360

An exit poll at this year’s Tokyo Game Show revealed that the PlayStation 2 is still king in Japan. 1,000 convention attendees were asked which game consoles they owned in the exit poll conducted by the General Computer Entertainment Industry (CESA) on the last day of the show. The survey found that 70.2% of those questioned said they own a PS2, which suggests that Sony’s last-gen system is still the most-owned console in Japan...
