Line Cinema is developing a movie based on Midway's retro arcade title
Rampage. John Rickard, co-producer of Final Destination 5 and the
Nightmare on Elm Street remake, is meeting with writers to develop a
story around the game's conceit of “ordinary people become monsters
and smash everything.” The movie's intended as a tentpole
blockbuster release, which is Hollywood-talk for “this thing needs
to make a lot of money, and we're going to make sure it does by putting Bradley Cooper in it...”
Arcade icon and Atari alumnus Ed Logg
has been pegged to receive The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences
(AIAS) 2012 Pioneer Award during the organization's 15th
Annual Interactive Awards next February.
Logg is widely regarded as one of
founder fathers of video gaming, having co-developed well known
coin-op games for Atari such as Asteroids, Super Breakout, Centipede,
and Gauntlet back in late '70s and early '80s. Logg also dabbled in the
home console field, writing code for Tengen's version of Tetris for
the NES, and later working on Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey and San
Francisco Rush for the N64...
Videogame consumers are buckling under the pressure of keeping up with the latest releases on
shrinking budgets, says GameStop. Reporting lower-than-anticipated
revenues in its latest fiscal quarter, the retail giant told
Gamasutra it believes the industry has suffered from a case of too many options and too
little cash.
"The quarter presented some challenges in topline, due to a cash-strapped consumer that could not afford all of the good titles released during the quarter," said GameStop CEO Paul Raines in an earnings call...

Street Fighter X Tekken is still a ways off, it's scheduled for a March 6th release, but that's not stopping Capcom from trying to get people hyped. for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, saying the title's first five days broke
