If you've been wondering how regular games - like Need for Speed Carbon, say - will work on Wii, then wonder no more. This new video gives you a glimpse of how the console's clever wireless controller can be used as a steering wheel stand in, with you twisting and turning it in your hands to wrap your car around the game's circuits. Hit the movies tab above for the footage.

Following Electronic Arts' financial announcement the company held a media and analyst conference call, during which executives elaborated on plans for current and upcoming consoles.

In regards to Sony's PlayStation 3, the company expects to have four or five titles available within the console's launch period, which EA defines as lasting from the date of the machine's retail availability until the end of the calendar year. Among these titles will be EA Tiburon's Madden NFL 07, EA Black Box's Need for Speed Carbon (preview, interview), and EA Redwood Shores' Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07. The other one or two titles were not named.

EA seems confident in the long term prospects of PlayStation 3, even if it takes developers some time to get accustomed to the machine. "This Christmas, it's going to be difficult to harness the full power of the PS3 on first generation software versus what will be second generation 360 games, so they're going to be more alike than different, is our opinion at this time," said an executive. "As those machines develop over time, there's a lot of horsepower inside the PS3 that we'll be able to unlock over years two, three, and four that we're very excited about." Speaking in terms of development progress on PS3 versus Xbox 360, an exec added, "We're slightly ahead of where we were on 360 at this time last year."
At EA's recent Studio Showcase 06, we got a glimpse of the future of one of the most popular racing franchises in gaming history (next to Gran Turismo, of course). The tricked-out racing rides of Need For Speed are back and even more customizable than ever - with hyper-tense, high stakes tracks to match.

To start, EA has added a new feature called Auto Sculpt that blows the doors off of the term "vehicle customization." Instead of simply strapping on pre-formed after-market parts to your sleek ...

Vaugier will play Nikki, the ex-girlfriend of Need for Speed Carbon's hero. The actress was directed by Hollywood veteran David Footman on the recent live action shoot for the game. The green screen shoot used techniques to make the live action actors appear computer generated yet retain as much of their performance as possible
Need for Speed Carbon, the latest in publisher EA's street-racing series, will not be playable online for Nintendo's new console, Wii.

NFS Carbon will support online play for the PS2, Xbox, PS3 and 360, but won't be available to Wii owners, according to Game Informer magazine.

It has also come to light that Carbon will not make use the motion sensing capabilities of either the Wii remote or the PS3 "tilt" controller. EA apparently has concerns over gamer fatigue, what with will all the ...
There's hardly a rim left to tweak in the Need for Speed universe, so perhaps that's why the series is once again wandering into the wilderness in search of new thrills. EA's newly announced Need for Speed Carbon slams you onto perilous canyon roads that twist and turn through dusty, gusty outdoor settings, but don't worry, you'll still be managing a pimped-out runnin' ...

Details on Need For Speed Carbon have been monoxidously thin since its name first appeared at E3 last month, but a few scans have popped up from US and UK magazines this week offering more of an outline.

NFS Carbon - apparently so called due of its relationship with "Carbon Canyon" in California, where racers often meet up to drive around very fast and probably "race for pinks" and the like - is due out on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PS2, Xbox and PSP this winter.

Those of you wondering whether it shares more in common with the ludicrously popular Need For Speed Underground games or the recent Most Wanted digression will probably find elements of both, by the sound of it, with lots of cop chases but also a definite sense of building up a "crew".
