Nintendo tied up its "Metroid Prime" franchise nicely with their recent "Trilogy" boxed set, and the company currently has its sights set on "Metroid: Other M," a 2D-ish return to classic "Metroid" gameplay. That project left the "Prime" games' developers at Retro behind to partner with Tecmo. Certain word choices by developers in a recent interview, however, seem to to indicate that future "Prime" games may still be possible down the pipe.

"As all I take part in is the 'Prime' series, I am not capable of commenting on the whole 'Metroid' series," Retro Studios producer Kensuke Tanabe told Kotaku. "But we will keep considering multiplayer for the 'Prime' series. For instance, I think I can come up with some unique ideas using the Morph Ball, which is a specific skill of Samus'."

IGN AU has just received its copy of Metroid Prime Trilogy, the Wii one-disc compilation of the last three Retro Studios Metroid Prime games. The games themselves have been marginally improved and tweaked for Wii release - but the most curious change so far was Nintendo of America's laudable decision to go with a very slick steel-book casing for the release, to celebrate and highlight the importance and quality of this series.

ARS: Metroid Prime Trilogy brings all three later-generation Metroid games together in one package, and adds motion-controls to Metroid Prime 1 and 2. It's a good package for $50, and for those gamers who haven't played the games, this gives them a chance to get the entire experience in one package. One minor annoyance, though: you can only play using the motion controls.

The game landed on our doorstep a few days ago, hot off the presses, and I couldn't wait to find out how the first two Metroid Prime titles played with the motion controls. The results were pleasantly surprising-look for a more in-depth review early next week-but I was taken aback when the instruction manual noted that the GameCube controller wouldn't work on any of the games.
