Metroid Prime 3: Corruption may not be the last game in the Prime series. With Other M on the way next year, some might have thought that the Prime series had come to an end but, as Nintendo's Kensuke Tanabe told ONM, the series may still have a future.

Asked whether Samus will ever return to DS, Tanabe (who oversaw Retro Studios' series for Nintendo) said "We are always planning to make new games in the Metroid Prime series. Depending on the timing and the situation, we cannot deny the possibility of realising it on DS or DSi."

Nintendo tied up its "Metroid Prime" franchise nicely with their recent "Trilogy" boxed set, and the company currently has its sights set on "Metroid: Other M," a 2D-ish return to classic "Metroid" gameplay. That project left the "Prime" games' developers at Retro behind to partner with Tecmo. Certain word choices by developers in a recent interview, however, seem to to indicate that future "Prime" games may still be possible down the pipe.

"As all I take part in is the 'Prime' series, I am not capable of commenting on the whole 'Metroid' series," Retro Studios producer Kensuke Tanabe told Kotaku. "But we will keep considering multiplayer for the 'Prime' series. For instance, I think I can come up with some unique ideas using the Morph Ball, which is a specific skill of Samus'."

Death happens a lot in videogames, but for some reason it never seems to stick. From heroes who get infinite do-overs to supporting characters who “die” only to resurface at the nick of time down the road, videogames might be the only medium in which the audience feels surprised, and perhaps even cheated, if a dead character isn’t magically brought back to life. ...

These tokens were awarded for a variety of reasons and were a lot of fun to compare with your friends, so it's nice to see them being utilized in the New Play Control versions of Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime: Echoes.

411mania gives a rundown on this week's game releases. Highlights include Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?, Street Fighter IV, DoDonPachi Daioujou Black Label Extra, Shooting Love, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, Metroid Prime Wii.

Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? (PSP)
Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? is one of the best platformers I've played in years thanks to it's tight controls and above average presentation. However, this game is definitely not for everyone. In fact, I'm pretty sure that only hardcore platformer junkies and people with infinite amounts of patience will get past the first three or four stages without developing a desire to throw their PSPs at a wall in rage. But if you can hang on, getting through the game can be quite satisfying and is an achievement that is worth bragging about.

Street Fighter IV (PS3, 360)
It isn't necessary for me to go in-depth since every other site is already doing it. I will, however, bring to your attention one of the coolest features SFIV has - the Arcade Request system. Basically, instead of watching a static screen while waiting for someone to challenge you online, this system allows you to play against the computer and seamlessly accept a challenge when one comes your way. It's like going to an arcade and playing against the CPU until someone gets the nerve to plunk down fifty cents to take you on. If you set it to accept only Player Matches (unranked) you can keep things going by rematching or, if you don't want to play the person again, you can quickly and easily go back to arcade mode after your match and continue on with the CPU until you get another challenge. It's hard to believe that it's taken Capcom this long to implement such a system. I can only hope that SNK does the same thing in its home version of KOF XII.

DoDonPachi Daioujou Black Label Extra (360 Import)
Every shooter needs its own hook to stand out. While Trigger Heart has its grapple syst...
Michael Bay Rumored To Bring Us a Metroid Movie (News)

Michael Bay, famous director of Pearl Harbor, The Rock, Armageddon, Transformers, and The Island, has a gift for delivering fast paced action and special effects to the big screen is to be rumored to be talking with Nintendo about directing or producing a film based off of Nintendo's Metroid series.
Each decade film tends to focus around themes like musicals in the 1940s and chick flicks in the 1970s. The new millenium (2000-2009) has been centered around super heros and comics, for example, Spiderman, Ironman, X-men, Superman, and Ghost Rider. There is even a Super Hero Movie which is being filmed by the makers of Scary Movie and Epic Movie.

As 2009 approaches and we head into a new decade one can only wonder where film will take us next. This is where the speculation starts of a Metroid Film produced by Michael Bay. As the gaming universe has now been expanded through the use of the Nintendo Wii, more and more people are now recognizing video gaming jargoon and characters. The Wii did something for video games that no other console besides the NES has been able to do, and that is make video gaming a mainstream media format. In fact, Nintendo holds six titles out of the 10 top selling video games according to VGCharts. So the rumor is that film makers will be looking to profit next off the popularity of video games, and in the case of Metroid, Nintendo's renewed popularity.
One of these features is the Everybody's Nintendo Channel on Wii, which has been live in Japan since November 27 of last year. While Nintendo has announced plans to bring this channel to North America and Europe, they have yet to announce a specific date."

Some of the wording is there, but definitely a different meaning this time around. Now, why do you think Nintendo/Retro went out of their way to remove it?
This pandering ensures the devoted legions happily slam down money for the latest re-imagining of Link, Pikachu, Fox or Samus despite the overall similarity to the previous game. You love it, we love it, but after seeing crowning achievements like Twilight Princess and Prime 3, we can't help but wonder "what ...

A rough estimate of the first day sales of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption are in from Japan. As many had anticipated, sales were minuscule compared to Wii Fit. Metroid only sold about 20,000 units on its first day. How long Corruption can go in Japan is questionable, as the previous two installments in the series did not sell well in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Core Gaming Group, Nintendo's representative company in South Africa, launched two popular Wii titles at a press event held this past Friday in Johannesburg. In addition, after roughly a year of the world's best selling handheld console being absent from the South African market, Core Group relaunched the Nintendo DS Lite.

The media briefing was presented by RJ van Spaandonk, the executive director of Core Group. RJ outlined the upcoming Wii releases, detailed the Nintendo DS Lite relaunch information and discussed the success that the Nintendo Wii has enjoyed in South Africa since its launch here in October 2007.

The Nintendo DS Lite was relaunched in South Africa and will soon be available in stores. It will retail at R1 799 and is available in four colours: black, white, silver and pink.
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is *finally* getting a long overdue release date for The Land of the Rising Sun. The game will drop March 6 for ¥6,800 (US $64). The game was first released in North America last August, then in Europe in late October and finally in Australia in early November. Sure the series is more popular in those territories, but PAL countries getting games before Japan? Hello backwards day!
Forget that the Nintendo DS is the number-one selling videogame system, and concentrate on the fact that the Nintendo Wii is still really hard to find in stores despite a healthy number of units being manufactured on a monthly basis. In short, it appears as though the world has gone Wii-mad. And it's far from a case of just the core gamer getting involved here. Nintendo's "risky" attempt to net non- and casual gamers into its Remote-swinging grasp has been a massive success.
Gaming is an up and down experience. Some years cram top quality titles into our every orifice until were bursting with videogame joy and have excess polygons dripping messily out of our ears, while some other years… Well, some other years are 1983.

In 2007 though, weve had a very good year indeed. A scarily good year in fact. One which has provided us so much brilliance on every format that its a genuine worry that the laws of karmic balance will soon bring us a plague ...
You dont have to join the scary clan of people trying to finish the game 100% in the time it ...

Where have all the elves gone?

That's the question gamers and the people who love them are bound to ask this fall as they take in the latest crop of big-budget video games. Since the 1970s, dragons, orcs, wizards and dwarfs have been staples of interactive entertainment, yet this holiday season there are hardly any top new games in the traditional fantasy mode.
The Metroid series has always been a victim of bad timing. It's one of the most critically acclaimed franchises in gaming. But thanks to dodgy release dates, internal politics and Nintendo's own disbelief in the franchise that's never quite rivalled the mighty Mario and Zelda series. Wrong place, wrong time?

In his Level Up blog, Newsweek's N'Gai Croal has posted a visual illustration of a special Wii remote he would have liked to find in the Metroid Prime 3 box. Unhappy with the placement of the plus and minus buttons -- both of which are frequently used in the game -- Croal proposes that the new kidney shaped configuration would add up to less limited controls. As he tells MTV's Stephen Totilo following their lengthy dissection of the game, "I know you'll agree with me."

Sales across the board were quite interesting this week. Compared to last week, hardware sales were up significantly, and the three current generation consoles (Wii/PS3/360) saw pretty big shakeups in their top ten software for the week:

1---Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
2---Bioshock
3---Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08
4---Wii Sports
5---Madden NFL 08
6---Blue Dragon
7---Warhawk
8---Lair
9---Wii Play
10-Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08

-Metroid Prime 3 had a much better launch week than Metroid Prime 2 did - 314k vs. 139k. This is even more impressive considering GC had 2x as many users in November 2004 as Wii has now, and that Prime 2 launched in November, while Prime 3 launched in August. If Galaxy and Brawl show the same type of generation to generation growth (2.25x better sales), then Nintendo is going to make alot of money.

- PS3 is approaching respectable Americas (US,Canada and a bit extra) sales. If it can do 55,000-60,000 a week for a while in the Americas, the business ecosystem of PS3 will improve quite a bit - at least in the West.
Sept 4, 2007

Nintendo's flagship shooter Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has debuted with a bang, taking the top sales spot in the all-format chart and even outselling 2K's awesome Bioshock in its first week.

Metroid managed to shift over 400,000 copies in total, which must be big news for developers ogling at Nintendo's console and proves that traditional "hardcore" games can still sell on the home of Wii Sports and Cooking Mama.

With Wii releases thin on the ground, Metroid's unlikely to be ...
With few major Wii releases on the horizon, Corruption's place atop the chart is likely to remain uncontested over the next several weeks as well. Positive buzz from upcoming titles like My Sims and Dance Dance Revolution: Hottest Party could bring a reshuffling of chart positions in the near future, however.
At long last, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has arrived in stores. We've raved about it endlessly, hailing its impressively layered and detailed graphics along with the new and improved control scheme. But it's certainly not the most accessible Wii title, which leads us to believe that many a Metroid fan is spending a lot of time roaming the corridors of Bryyo wondering what to do. That's why we're here to help.

Now, this isn't a full-on walkthrough. That's coming soon, so don't worry. What we ...
Retro Studios, developer of Metroid Prime, Prime 2 and the upcoming Prime 3: Corruption on Wii, will not be leaping straight into another Samus-led project. Mark Pacini, the game's director, has revealed that "[Retro Studios is] taking a break from the Metroid series, and from Samus".

"I'm sure that there will be other titles created," says Pacini, "but as far as Retro Studios is concerned, we're taking a break for a little ...

The summer dry spell for video games came to an end last week with the arrival of "BioShock," the creepy underwater shooter that has won rave reviews and flown off store shelves.

The main bulk of important games this year won't come out until November, but the next month or two will see the release of quite a few other hot games. These aren't necessarily "system sellers" -- games that are so good that consumers will buy a particular video game console just to play them -- but give potential customers a few more reasons to eventually take the plunge.
Aug 29, 2007

With so much emphasis on the casual market (Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Wii Play etc), it's easy to assume Nintendo's slowly leaving the hardcore gamer behind. Half of 2007 is over and the only true gamer's game we've seen from the company is Super Paper Mario - an RPG that either pushes your buttons or falls flat. Now, finally, there's a built-for-Wii title that embraces serious players and rewards them with intense shooting action, brain-sizzling puzzles and the smoothest graphics and ...

The cream of this week's crop arrives in the form of a certain armour-clad heroine courtesy of Nintendo. Yep, sweet Samus makes her first appearance on the Nintendo Wii for the final game in the long-running Metroid series.

Dutch gaming-website InsideGamer.nl reports, that with a perfect review for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and eight nearly perfect scores for BioShock, both titles will most likely duke it out for the title 'best game' ever. Read more below.

Directly translated from source:

''Two games of the same genre, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for the Wii and BioShock for the Xbox 360 and PC, could both try to end up in the list of the top 10 best videogames of all time. Both first-person adventures, and both pioniers according to critici, are getting nearly perfect scores.

BioShock has gained eight reviews, and the average is about 9,9 out of 10. According to GameRankings, BioShock needs only two reviews with a rate of 9,7 or higher to conquer the title 'best videogame to date'. BioShock would even beat The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - which has been on top of the list for years.

Metroid Prime's first review came from the North-American magazine Nintendo Power, which gives it a perfect score of 10 out of 10. Nintendo Power didn't even gave The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, nor The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, this rating.''
Gamesradar has totally deleted any signs of their Metroid Prime 3 footage off their site. Wii.tv found it kinda odd that they'd screw up the "Nintendo Embargo" and put the footage out there weeks before launch. In another screw up, their *.FLV [aka Flash Embed Videos] files which would've seen the light of the day once they were ready to reveal the later parts of their 1 hour session have now been leaked all over Youtube.
They give the game a perfect score of 10/10.

Reasons :
- First Wii game that you couldn't confuse graphically with last-gen
- Great artwork
- Incredible feeling of immersion
- Flawless level design; tons of freedom to explore but you always have the feeling that you're at the right place at the right time. Sounds like the game does a remarkable job of nudging you as to what to do without giving it away.
- Best platforming design in a first person shooter
- Gestures for pulling levers, etc markedly improved from earlier demos
This is hardcore. Or so everyone says. But what is "hardcore?" To us gamers, it means the kind of game that serious gamers devote their time to. You know, hundreds of hours of time. The kind of game that kept Granny away from gaming until Wii came along. It's about depth - of learning and understanding a game before truly mastering it. Hardcore games present the greatest (and often longest) challenges, yet also the biggest payoffs, assuming you understand how they work.

Of course, ...

During E3 last week, Assassin's Creed was the most popular game of the show among the readers of IGN. Ubisoft's upcoming stealth/action game beat out the mighty Halo 3 (second place) and Activision's impressive Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (third) in reader popularity. Of the three platforms Assassin's will call home, the Xbox 360 version is by far the most popular, followed by the PlayStation 3 and PC iterations, respectively.

It should be noted that Assassin's Creed was the most popular cross-platform title, while Halo 3 was the most popular exclusive.
Nintendo's press conference may not have held great interest for the hardcore gamer, but behind closed doors it was allowing select individuals an hour-long session of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Fans will know that's still not enough time to truly get a feel for such an enormous game, but our 60 minutes of Samus definitely left us with some mixed impressions.

The first 20 minutes or so take place on a space station. There are workers milling around, space marines barking orders and rival ...
Hardcore Nintendo fans certainly weren't the focus of this year's press conference. True, we saw the Wii Zapper revealed and finally got confirmation on Mario Kart Wii (due Q1 next year) and Super Mario Galaxy's release date (November 12), but the real focus was the company's continued audience expansion. In addition to showing Brain Age 2 and a new visual acuity game called Flash Focus, Nintendo unveiled its secret weapon for its next casual carpet bomb - Wii Fit, an exercise program that uses ...

Seems like Nintendo may have some big announcements in store for Super Mario Galaxy, like the fact that it no longer goes by that name.

David Rodriguez discovered today that Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has mysteriously vanished from Nintendo's master list of games on their company website.

This is suspicious news in and of itself, but considering that video game mega-con E3 is just around the corner, SWL are willing to bet they're planning to drop the bomb and a new name.

Though this little tidbit was technically included in our last story, regarding The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass' release date, it was only a mere footnote, and certainly deserves an entry all its own. Tucked away within that press release, Nintendo of America sneakily revealed that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption for the Nintendo Wii has been delayed.

Back in May, Nintendo sent out a schedule of their upcoming Nintendo Wii and DS release dates, and one of the big headlines of that story was Corruption being dated for August 20th, 2007. However, in its latest press release, the date has been pushed back to August 27th. It isn't a major delay, to be sure, but for those of you planning your entire summers around this first-party first-person shooter, it is certainly need-to-know information.
So what's the big deal regarding the control system? We've played an earlier version, from before ...
