Nike and Honda aren't the only people doing hybrids now. Dave Bondi's AKASHI figure is a great smash-up of two of the worlds most noticeable characters, Mickey and Mario. The physical features of both melt together seamlessly as each lend a "hand" into creating something new. AKASHI stands a proud 9? tall and is limited to only 200 pieces.

"The action at Seattle's Safeco Field will be wilder than ever on Sept. 5 when video game icon Mario takes over the diamond. We were half expecting this to be like a Mario-ised version of the baseball game from Wii Sports, but having puzzled our way through, we’d have to say we were half wrong. Or is that fully wrong? Anyway, the point is that it’s nothing at all like Wii Sports, so the potential for a full-on baseball game with Mario characters and some proper motion-sensing for the batting and pitching has not yet been realised. ...

To celebrate the launch of Mario Super Sluggers, Charles Martinet, the voice actor for Mario, Luigi, Wario, and more will be in attendance at the Nintendo World Store in Manhattan on August 24th, signing autographs and giving out a mysterious special gift from Nintendo to those who purchase the new Mario sports title.

Today Nintendo revealed a few upcoming games to the Wii and DS gaming systems. Wario gets a new game on the Wii, while Kirby returns to the Nintendo DS.

Every of the (so far) 42 characters will have his/her/its own unique batting and pitching powers (super moves). For examples Mario swings away with a fireball, Princess Peach spreads the love, Luigi's swing generates a whirlwind, and Waluigi pitches in an arching rainbow.

We were surprised to hear Nintendo announce a brand new game at its spring media summit this morning - we were not surprised that said game was another Mario sports title. Mario Super Sluggers will arrive in Japan in June and elsewhere "later this year," featuring the requisite number of mascot characters and suitably silly gameplay.

We were treated to a brief demo that showed a 5-inning match between the Mario Fireballs (firebats?) ...
