Pretty slim pickings after several back to back AAA releases and last weeks bonanza of titles, at least its gonna give some of the less mainstream games a chance at success without having to compete with stuff way out of their league. The closest thing we have to a big release next week is the long overdue continuation of the Donkey Kong Country series with the aptly named Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Go Nintendo - January 21st, 2008 RevoGamers (in Spanish) had a chance to talk to Richard Barclay, Marketing Manager for Rising Star Games. Mr. Barclay was able to confirm that the 'set in stone' release date for Harvest Moon: Magical Melody on the Wii is March 14th, 2008. When asked about the first true Wii Harvest Moon game, Tree of Peace, Mr. Barclay still couldn't confirm that the game was coming to Europe.

Harvest Moon creator and Marvelous Entertainment President Yasuhiro Wada told Game Informer Online that the next Harvest Moon title will take the series online. However, Wada did not say on what platform the game will be. Game Informer speculates a Wii or DS version is quite likely. Wada made it clear that the online version of Harvest Moon will not be an MMO; it will allow 2-8 players to visit your town. Wada said they're experimenting with having the same NPCs in everyone's town.

Following rumours yesterday that Harvest Moon: Magical Melody for the Wii may contain online features, it was today confirmed by Rising Star Games that the game will NOT feature Wi-Fi gameplay.

A recent update to the official Harvest Moon page has hinted that the upcoming farming simulation title will use the Wii's Wi-Fi service. The website updated showing the official boxart for Magical Melody which included the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection logo!
Yasuhiro Wada sowed the seeds that would grow to be Harvest Moon, the successful and long-running farming simulator that's been flourishing ever since its 1997 SNES debut.
