Wii News | Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
Oct 31, 2007 Harmonix and Red Octane once worked together to bring Guitar Hero to the world. But now Red Octane president Kai Huang believes that, while there's room for both its own Guitar Hero brand and Harmonix's new Rock Band, Rock Band's "complex" nature means it won't offer what the "mass market" wants. "With Guitar Hero, we want to make it as broadly appealing as possible, as market, as casual a game as possible," Huang explains. "With Rock Band [it's] slightly different." "[Rock ... » Read More

Wii - Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - Guitar Hero III Wii rocks harder than Xbox 360, PS3 at retailer The Wii version of the new music title ranked as the No. 1 offering at Amazon's Computer & Video Games division, outranking the SKU for Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox 360 at No. 7 and Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 at No. 40.

All three versions include new music tracks, a wireless guitar, and online play options.

EA next month will release a new competitor to the music game sector called Rock Band. Rock Band, which includes peripherals to form an entire virtual band, will only be sold for the Xbox 360 and PS3, and not the Wii.

Wii - Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - Guitar Hero III controllers suffering from defects A number of internet forums are buzzing with complaints from gamers regarding faulty Guitar Hero III controllers. Some posts indicate that buttons will just flake out over a random period of time with the detachable neck of the controller being the expected culprit for the respective bug. If the problem is indeed with the detachable neck then you can bet this one will be pretty wide-spread and these aren't just isolated problems.

Wii News from N4G | Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
Wii - Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - Guitar Hero III gets offline mode with patch on 360 Those who fired up their new copies of Guitar Hero III yesterday might have been disheartened to find that the game lacked the offline co-op quickplay mode. Luckily (for a portion of you, at least) that's going to be addressed with a quickness, thanks to a patch that 1UP says is coming this Tuesday to Xbox Live.

The bad news is that there's no word of similar treatment on the Wii or PS3 versions so far, but hopefully it's not too far off. We're not sure what's so difficult about offline co-op quickplay that it had to be addressed with a patch, but we're happy that Activision seems concerned enough about it to act on it so quickly. Of course, that's not much comfort to those without internet or (we're looking at you new Arcade owners) a hard drive to save the patch on.

Wii News from N4G | Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
Wii - Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - Rock Band strat may not rock with Guitar Hero 3 According to early tests conducted by IGN, the most compatible controller is Xbox 360's Guitar Hero 2 X-plorer model, which works with both upcoming titles, although you cannot use the special effects to the lack of a five-way switch. The GH3 Les Paul controller works with everything except the PS2 version of GH2 (played on a PS3, natch) and, like the X-plorer, cannot activates effects.

Rock Band's stratocaster, however, does not work with any Guitar Hero title on the Xbox 360. (IGN has not been able to test the PS3 version yet.) A statement released by Harmonix said, among other things, that they "welcome any 3rd party software that wishes to support Rock Band guitars. If a 3rd party guitar / music game does not support the Rock Band guitar controller, questions regarding this should be directed to the game manufacturer."

Wii News from N4G | Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
Wii - Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - Study: Guitar Hero III has more groupies than Rock Band Joystiq may go crazy over Harmonix and Electronic Arts' love child Rock Band, but data from IGN's GamerMetrics reminds us that the franchise has a ways to go if it wants to overtake its distant cousin Guitar Hero III.

According to the statistics, there were 22 million page views on IGN for Guitar Hero III-related articles, vs. 10 million for Rock Band (a 120% increase). GHIII was also on almost twice as many wishlists (5,755 vs. 2,928) as its competitor and over six times as many message board posts (25,000 vs. 4,000).

I got a gang of friends together to test it out and we spent hours unlocking songs and fooling around, but, because some of us are guitar heroes and some are guitar zeroes, having a truly quality time is a tougher than it should be. It's still well worth a look

Just in case you weren't enticed by ArtGuitars' Limited Edition KISS wireless Guitar Hero III controller, the company has now revealed designs based upon two additional musical megaliths: head-banging shred-masters Pantera and the ultimate Southern rock band, Lynyrd Skynyrd. Granted, the new axes will run you around $399 apiece, but that's because the photo-quality images are chemically bonded to the wood - these aren't just vinyl stickers - and because we actually meant it when we said "wood" ... » Read More
