Video games -- often regarded as nothing more than mindless entertainment for lethargic kids and teens -- are proving to be an effective, new tool to motivate patients to perform rehabilitation exercises. Rehabilitation therapists from the William Randolph Hearst Burn Center at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center are using the motion-sensitive Nintendo Wii video game console, along with traditional methods, to help patients recover from life-changing injuries. Patients hold wireless remotes that control actions on screen. Players swing the controller to simulate realistic motions, like swinging a tennis racquet, swatting a baseball for a home run, among countless other motions. For burn patients or any patient with a skin graft, moving and stretching the skin is very painful, but imperative for a successful recovery.

Dick McVengeance of Destructoid says, Let's face it: the Guitar Hero controller is not the ideal item for the game. It'd be nice to hold a full-sized guitar in your hands. We've seen people build custom controllers and put them on eBay, but those were one-off deals, and usually rather expensive.

I don't know about you guys, but playing with Aerosmith is just something I didn't even dare to dream of. Having them in my living-room would be another thing, but thanks to Guitar Hero, I will be just one of the millions of happy fans that can make both of their dreams become reality. Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is much like Guitar Hero III, but with more of a personal feeling for all those classic rockers out there. They now have the opportunity to be a part of the Aerosmith history, from the Nipmuc High School to the star-studded halftime show at the Big Game. The game offers an exclusive chance to enter the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, by offering all Guitar Hero and Aerosmith lovers out there the opportunity to fill in Joe Perry's shoes and play alongside Steven Tyler in some of the best concerts the world has ever seen.

So time has passed, and time heals all wounds right? It was with a hopeful heart that some people bought a copy of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, and tried firing it up with a Rock Band guitar, only to be greeted with a screen telling them, An unsupported guitar peripheral has been detected. Sigh.

Games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero III have proved their ability to breathe new life into classic rock sales. But can they do the same for new music? Last month, Motley Crue decided to find out. The band placed its new single, the title track from Saints of Los Angeles, for sale as a downloadable track on Rock Band well in advance of the album's release date, which has been pushed back to June 24. The only other place to obtain the track was iTunes. According to data provided by the band's management, Tenth Street Entertainment, the track was downloaded more than 47,000 times via the Xbox 360 version of the game alone in the first week after it became available. By comparison, the same track received slightly more than 10,000 downloads via digital services like iTunes and Amazon, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

The upcoming Guitar Hero: Aerosmith (and possibly Guitar Hero: On Tour) tracklist got a new addition today, as One Armed Scissor by At the Drive-In was confirmed by the band to be in the game. While the press release specifically mentions Guitar Hero IV, this wouldn't be the first time a band confused which game their song was going to be in.

The Guitar Heroes at Red Octane Lock Up Aerosmith With An Exclusive Arrangement, Leaving Harmonix and Rock Band to Dream On

Level Up writes: With the rising popularity of rhythm games like SingStar, Guitar Hero and Rock Band, is it only a matter of time before some acts start going exclusive in exchange for more loot. Ever since Harmonix and MTV Games revealed last year that they would be offering full-length albums for download in Rock Band, followed by Red Octane and Activision's announcement that they planned to build an entire Guitar Hero game around a single band like Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, we've wondered whether the game makers were locking up exclusive rights to featured acts. It hasn't been easy finding out, because the relevant developers and publishers have been surprisingly reticent to discuss this matter. Still, we persevered, and with an assist from NEWSWEEK business reporter Ashley Harris, we've learned that Aerosmith is indeed exclusive to Guitar Hero for an unspecified period of time. It's an exclusive deal for this game, Aerosmith publicist Marcee Rondon told Harris. We confirmed this with Tim Riley, Activision's vice president of music affairs, who told us through Activision PR that I can say that we do have the band exclusively, and their catalogue should be exclusive to us beyond the one or two tracks they had licensed out to Rock Band before we made our deal. (According to MTV's Rhythm Game Track Finder, it's one song: 'Train Kept a Rollin'.')
