Godzilla: Unleashed

The giant monster basher feels totally different on Wii, but not much better.

Despite the improvements over the PS2 version, this still feels like a half-step that may, in fact, not be finished. Cutscenes are narrated slideshows that actually reuse the same panels multiple times. There's apparently a whole elemental damage system as well, with each attack having qualities like blunt, edged, electric, or radioactive - but it's never explained, even in the manual.

And there are glitches. The scoring system seems off - we sometimes noticed it gave us points for knocking out only one of our two or more enemies, and a few times the level simply ended without us actually completing the goal. Most worrisome is the fact that the in-game store simply wouldn't let us purchase one entire faction (the mutants). Hopefully, that was ironed out before our near-final review code was sent to the factory.

Between these random inadequacies and the shabby controls, there's just not enough reason for non-hardcore Godzilla fans to bother with this. Too bad. The King of the Monsters deserves better.
