Square Enix has revealed the bonuses US customers who Preorder Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers will be able to grab with three different retailers participating and offering three different gifts.

Customers at Gamestop will get $5 off the cost of the game when they pick it up on December 26th, while those who prefer the online approach can grab a limited edition 2010 calendar via Amazon.com.

Finally, those who preorder the game at Best Buy will get their hands on an exclusive soundtrack sample CD, similar to the one gifted to fans in Japan.

Square have also released images of the Calendar and CD.

With Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers not long from release, Square Enix are trying to decide what music should feature on the Mini-OST that will accompany the game.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers has been mysteriously absent from a Nintendo release list for the remainder of 2009, indicating that the title won't arrive in Europe this year.

At E3 2009 The Crystal Bearers was heavily pushed to atendees at a game for "This Winter" - which most assume mean the game'll be out by the end of December.

Speaking to RPGSite this morning, a Square Enix representative told us that the Wii spin-off was still "firmly on track for a release This Winter, as indicated previously." Winter carries on until early 2010, so we can now likely expect to see the game in January or February of next year.

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers didn't look anything like it does now back when it was announced. Back then it sported a super-deformed art style like the DS titles in the series and promised a multiplayer experience - but clearly the team decided they wanted to do something very different.

When the game re-emerged years later it was as a single player game with an art style not dissimilar to main-line entries in the Final Fantasy series, and gameplay that seems to take an Action RPG approach closer to Fable then Crystal Chronicles - but was it a worthwhile change?

Japanese fans will be able to reenter the Crystal Chronicles universe a little earlier than first announced, with the release date of the game getting pushed up to November 12th.

Previously, The Crystal Bearers was planned for a November 26th release, but speaking to press about the announcement Square Enix said they decided the game was so complete and fan expectations so high that they decided to move the release date forwards.

It was announced yesterday that The Crystal Bearers would arrive in the US on December 26th.

It's been a while since there has been any real news about Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers, so it was a welcome surprise to see some new information divulged in the latest edition of Shonen Jump Magazine in Japan.

There is a brief one-page spread, which details a little bit of information about the game, while announcing a new character, Dr. Cid. He appears at the bottom-left of the scan and is apparently part of the Lilty race.

Square Enix have launched the official site for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers, the latest entry in the spin-off series for Nintendo Wii.

Crystal Bearers is the newest of an ever growing number of FF:CC titles, but this game is notable as it's going to be the first entry in the series to really tackle a classic long, dramatic Final Fantasy plot in the Crystal Chronicles universe.

It's also anticipated as it will be the first major FF title on Wii. The website features a trailer previously only available in the Japanese version of the last FF:CC game and a new arrangement of the Final Fantasy theme by Crystal Chronicles series composer Kumi Tanioka.

Square Enix honcho Yoichi Wada (above, left) is worried. Western game companies are doing really well! Meaning that competition is getting harder. Yet, Wada hopes to capitalise on the Western market, aiming to increase the ratio of overseas sales from its current 50 percent to 80 percent in the next three years. According to the exec:

"We face competition not only from Japanese videogame companies but from game companies worldwide. We also see some new players from outside the videogame industry coming in... Economies of scale and breadth of scope is getting important. It may be a business alliance or it may be us taking a stake in others, but we need to go beyond traditional Square Enix."

That business alliance sounds nice and all. But, how about stop calling everything Final Fantasy? Or make things other than RPGs? Or if you are going to make RPGs, why not make the games people have been asking for for the past decade?

Joystiq reports that following the presentation about Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King, an attendee asked the speakers, producer Toshiro Tsuchida and lead programmer Fumiaki Shiraishi, the question that most Wii Final Fantasy fans have had on their minds: does the new Wii Ware project mean the end of the retail Crystal Chronicles game, The Crystal Bearers?

The Square Enix staffers demurred in response to this question, saying only that we should "wait for a press release" to tell us about that situation. Following today's announcement of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles for Nintendo's Wii Ware download service, Square Enix has opened up an official webpage for the game, fully titled Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Chiisa na Ousama to Yakusoku no Kuni (Little King and the Promised Country).

Also revealed at the page is release information for the game. Crystal Chronicles will be available for download at a cost of 1,500 Wii Points. It will be available, in Japan, simultaneously with the start of the Wii Ware service, which is expected in March 2008.
