LOVEFiLM, Europe's number one online DVD rental service, expects Assassin's Creed to top sales and rentals this holiday season.

"Assassins Creed will definitely be up there; our audience have already heavily pre-ordered this and the sure scale of the experience is very cinematic, so will prove popular amongst film fans," Chris Bird, head of marketing services for LOVEFiLM, told GamesIndustry.biz.

"Kane and Lynch will also do well, as will Call of Duty 4. FIFA 08 and PES will also be 'must buy' for anyone getting a new console over Christmas."

Sega's Football Manager 2008 has entered the UK's all-formats chart at number one this week, knocking EA's FIFA 08 off the top spot.

Accounting for 38 per cent of all PC titles sold in the past week, Sports Interactive's management sim is Sega's first multiformat number one title since last year's version of the popular football franchise.

IGN is offering 40 readers the chance to become a record breaker by taking part in the biggest game of FIFA 08 in the worldÂ¿ Ever! Yep, you could become a FIFA world beater by joining team IGN and showing your skills as part of EA's London Games Festival event planned for next week.

Oct 17, 2007 Well, we must have misinterpreted the early signs for this one, because despite being promoted by a Mii-style Ronaldinho and featuring cartoony backgrounds and crazy new controls, its actually very much a traditional FIFA game. Quite a dated one, at that. EA has confirmed that the demo for FIFA 08 will go live on 360 and PS3 tomorrow.

It'll give you a chance to try out what the publisher is calling its most coherent football game to date. There's the new skill system to try out, the opportunity to play as just one member of the team and not mess it up, plus the usual better graphics, physics, and all that malarkey.

EA has released the first trailer of FIFA 08, the latest iteration of its best-selling soccer franchise. The teaser shows a player in Barcelona kit, running with the ball over 3D grass before burying a long-range shot. If it is representative of in-game animation on PS3 and 360, it looks as though the game will make use of animation-blending so movement remains smooth under slow-motion conditions. Definitely a good thing. Of course, it is only a teaser, so it's too early to say anything ...

EA have released details on the Wii version of FIFA 08. The game has changed the camera from the common left-to-right gameplay, and instead have given us a bottom-to-top viewpoint, similar to Sensible Soccer. This is to make the controls feel easier to perform. Flick the Remote left or right to pass the ball left or right, and pull it up hard and fast to shoot at the ball - the harder you move the Remote, the more power the ball has. During a free kick, the angle the nunchuck gives the ball relevant spin. Throw-ins are done by holding the Remote and Nunchuck above your head and making a throwing motion. The Wii version also allows you to control your goalkeeper directly during the game.

The latest edition of Nintendo Power magazine features EA's unique take on footy theme mini-games revealing some of the extras of the upcoming Fifa '08 edition.

Aside from motion controlled football, the Wii version features some Mii-heavy shorts including a rhythm based game where, with a flick of the Wii-mote, players can keep their balls held high. Foosball accompanies the ball action along with a penalty shootout where multiple players fire their balls at a poor goalie. After playing ball with friends players can unlock the ultimate in cheese-lifestyle: Ronald-mii-nho, yes, Ronald-mii-nho.
