FIFA 08

Hardcore soccer meets crazy control scheme

The player rosters are up to date, of course, and the list of available leagues stretches right around the world. There’s also a shop where you can buy new balls, new strips and floodlit versions of some of the many stadiums included. You can also transfer as many players as you like, completely free of charge, before the start of the season, so if you always thought Thierry Henry should have picked Accrington Stanley ahead of Barcelona, you can help him make the right decision. And you can switch teams during a game, to magic yourself a win.

Of course, none of this or the weak Party mode makes up for the missed opportunity FIFA 08 represents on Wii. For a truly accessible soccer game, maybe next time they could ease up on the motion controls, make the players look like Miis instead of aborted troll babies and have the whole game play more like Sensible Soccer. Just a thought.

You'll love
  • Up to date rosters
  • Solid soccer game
  • Multiplayer is still a blast
You'll hate
  • Shoehorned controls
  • Lame party games
  • Wasted potential
