TV Videogame shows: Have they always sucked ass?

The accepted wisdom is that TV just doesn't 'get' games, but is that really true? Time for a look through the archives...

Cybernet: 1996 - ???

Cybernet was another big old failure. On the surface of things it seemed great. No kids, no trendy attitude, just news, previews, reviews and features presented by a disembodied narrator and and coated with lashings of delicious game footage. Unfortunately, the show was just too damn polite for its own good.

Reviews always glossed over a game's bad points with a slick layer of euphemisms, previews showed an average level of insight at best, and industry commentary was virtually non-existent. Oh, and did we mention that the show often seemed blissfully ignorant of the fact that its content was weeks out of date and that the whole sorry mess was usually broadcast at around 3am?

We never understood the point of Cybernet. We never understood it at all. It disappeared from the ITV's schedules a lot time ago, but has apparently been sighted on Bravo since. We are however, not going looking for it.
