The Top 7... Christmas moments

From heartwarming to horrific, we count down gaming's most memorable holiday scenes

Words: GamesRadar US

4. Kingdom Hearts II (PS2, 2006)
Nothing puts you in the Christmas spirit like creepy skeletons and nightmarish monsters. Kingdom Hearts II brings the yuletide spirit of Tim Burton’s modern holiday classic, The Nightmare Before Christmas, with the Christmas Town section of the original Halloween Town world.

This time around, you get to jeopardize the sacred holiday not once, but twice! In your first visit, you rescue Santa from the resurrected bug-bag Oogie Boogie, and the second stay-over pits you against a hulking mechanical beast named "The Experiment" that’s terrorizing the poor little elves of Christmas Town. But all the smashing, bashing and macabre mayhem somehow fits in with the true meaning of Christmas, and once more Jack Skellington learns a valuable lesson about letting Santa do his job. Oh, and you get to trash Santa's workshop, too, but then the old man makes you wrap presents. Fat bastard.

3. Bully (PS2, 2006)
Bully is the story of one boy's year at boarding school, so it's only natural that Christmas rolls around sooner or later. And when it does, it's not so much of the enchanting Harry Potter variety as it is of the criminally embarrassing, pink-bunny-pajamas-in-A-Christmas-Story variety.

When you begin the mission "Christmas Is Here," ugly young protagonist Jimmy Hopkins is called down to the principal's office to receive a package from his mother. Too bad she hates his guts; Jimmy's "present" is a dippy-looking reindeer sweater that he'll have to wear for at least as long as it takes to trudge back to the dorms to change. Along the way, he's likely to get hassled for violating dress code, and guaranteed to be laughed at by pretty much everybody. It's a far cry from heartwarming, but just like in real life, the worst Christmas moments are always the ones we remember the best.

2. Infected (PSP, 2005)
Did we say that getting a lame sweater was the "worst" Christmas moment? We take it back. It's hard to imagine a worse Christmas than the one experienced by the crowd in the opening to 2005's lighthearted PSP zombie-stomp Infected, which sees a Central Park tree-lighting ceremony crashed by a small horde of zombies, led by an undead Santa. It's disturbing, especially when bloodthirsty corpses eat a wheelchair-bound kid and yank some unidentified organ out of the mayor's ass. But it's all in (very dark) fun, and in its own way it neatly sums up everything we hate about the holiday: the crowds, the glib newscasters, the berserk tugs-of-war over must-have gifts and delicious vital organs…

If you don't mind knowing that Santa's suit is red mainly because he's drenched in blood, click below to see it for yourself:
