Super Mario 128

Another tech demo, only this one caused no small excitement given that it shared a name with a certain long-rumoured Mario project. Featuring 128 Marios running crazy around a sphere, the technology demonstrated would later be used for the crowd-control elements of Pikmin and the sphere-based gravitational physics of Super Mario Galaxy.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse

Four Horsemen was pretty racy for a GameCube title, featuring religious themes, a main character who worked part-time as a prostitute, and loads of viscera-coated freaks. But that’s not why it was cancelled. Instead, publisher 3DO went bankrupt. Whoops…

Dead Rush

Imagine, if you will, Grand Theft Auto III set during a zombie holocaust. That intoxicating premise was the idea behind the ill-fated Dead Rush, which would see zombies pile onto whatever vehicle the player commandeered and attempt to tear him out of there.
