Zubat may be an extremely common Pokemon, but it's easily one of the most useful early in the game. Leech Life, Supersonic, Astonish and Confuse Ray are all great moves to have, as are their Bug, Normal and Ghost types. Zubat also eventually gains moves from Dark, Flying, Poison and Ice categories. It's also somewhat strange that it's a Poison type, even though it only learns one Poison-type move.
