The first dual-gender Pokemon, Nidoran was getting' busy before the later games made it cool. Choosing male or female doesn't really matter much. Their move sets are largely the same, and their stats aren't too far off from each other. Just pick one and move along - or think about their final evolutions and make your choice that way.
