R-Rated Movies That Spawned Kiddie Games

Attention children: Buy these games about blood, sex and booze

Words: Paul Ryan, GamesRadar US

Game: Friday the 13th (1989) - NES
Movie: Friday the 13th (1980)

The Movie: Jason Voorhees drowned at Camp Crystal Lake in 1957. Over 20 years later, in 1979, the camp reopens. Turns out this particular campsite isn't such as good location and certainly is no place for kids. All of the counselors arrive at the camp to prepare for the new opening, and a mysterious killer murders all but one in shockingly bloody ways.

You get to see an arrow sticking out of someone's eye, another one shoved through a guy's head as he lies on a bed (archery was big in camps in the '70s), throats being slit, axes colliding with brains and even the supposed corpse of the drowned boy jumping out of the lake to attack the last counselor. She wakes up later in the hospital, and whether Jason was a dream or not is left up to the audience to figure out. Maybe the nine sequels that followed are an indicator. Or maybe the kids playing through the game can give some answers.

The Game: What could be better than a game about an invincible, unstoppable killing machine named Jason who kills off teenagers? Well, maybe one that lets you be Jason. Instead, you take control of six camp counselors at the legendary Camp Crystal Lake. Every so often, Jason shows up somewhere on the other side of the map from you and does a funny little dance for one of the other counselors, which - thanks to his purple jumpsuit and clumsy demeanor - slowly saps that counselor's will to live.

To help Jason out, the game throws wolves, ravens and zombies that have nothing to do with the movie at you. When you lose - which you will, because the map is impossible to understand and the game is too tough - you'll be given this kid-friendly message:  "You and your friends are dead. Game over." Thanks, game. Thanks a lot.

Unless you happen to be this guy:
