Fan films gone wrong: Part 2

The good, the bad, and the WTF

Words: David Houghton, GamesRadar UK

 Duck Hunt: The Movie

We don’t know what it is about retro Nintendo that spawns such imaginative and loving films, but the NES kids are certainly doing great work now that they’ve grown up and swapped the controllers for cameras. Like in the Punchout!! trailer, the greatness of Duck Hunt: The Movie comes from the makers taking a relatively simple old game and extrapolating the concept into an epic real-world context. Thus, we have those pixelly NES ducks reimagined as a deadly nuclear threat in a crazy yet actually quite threatening sci-fi remix of Hitchcock’s The Birds.

With Metal Gear clips making up the dialogue. It shouldn’t work at all, but thanks to the classy new 3D duck models and some truly ambitious direction, it really really does.
