The action may always be on a pre-set path, but like any good rollercoaster, Dead Space Extraction gets your heart racing and adrenaline pounding even though you have no control. A far more interesting and emotional take on the light gun scene.

While it was a modest hit, Dead Space – the most chilling horror game of 2008 – never got the high sales or status it deserved. It had an astonishingly filmic design thanks to the lack of loading screens and HUD, lots of nightmare fuel and loads of good ideas sure to be stolen by lesser games. And next month, the second game in the series – Dead Space: Extraction – will hit the Wii exclusively.

In horror games, as with horror films, sometimes it’s the moments when nothing happens that prove to be the scariest. Take Konami’s vintage PS2 hair-whitener Silent Hill 2, for example. For many, that game’s defining moment was the initial walk down the winding, mist-covered road leading into Silent Hill.
