Ripten writes: Castlevania gamers rejoiced when a new installment in the popular series was announced at this year's E3. Fans then became less enthused when they learned that instead of a traditional action-adventure title like those the series is known for, the new Castlevania is going be a fighter for the Nintendo Wii. In a recent interview with current Castlevania series producer Koji Igarashi, Wired questioned the man on this bizarre transition, and his answers were a little worrying.

Few people expected Koji Igarashi's Castlevania Judgement would be similar to a fighting game. Igarashi knew fans would be surprised - but many said they were let down. I had expectations about the kind of reaction, he told MTV Multiplayer last week at E3.

The only details we got on Order of Ecclesia were in trailer form, showing off a hero whipping and slashing hordes of skeletons, zombies, and Frankenstein's Monster. This looks to be a complete return to traditional Castlevania, with side-scrolling monster hunting galore. More time was spent on Castlevania Judgment, a Wii exclusive that you aren't supposed to call a fighter. The producers are terming the title a 3D versus action game, which basically means you can fight in all dimensions. Considering there are two characters onscreen replete with health bars, a timer, and special attack meters, this one has all the earmarks of a fighter. But hey, six of one, half-a-dozen of the other.

Konami officially confirmed that Castlevania Judgment, the first Castlevania title in the fighting game genre, is currently in development exclusively for Wii. Developed by legendary Castlevania series producer Koji Iga Igarashi, Castlevania Judgment bridges the past with the present as it pits several generations of the Belmont clan against a host of characters that span the franchise's 22-year history. It will be released in North America in Fall 2008 bottom of pages As an added bonus, players are also able to compete head-to-head using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and connect with Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia on the Nintendo DS to unlock bonus gameplay content.
