According to an EA representative "Boogie SuperStar will not include game play on the Wii balance board. The game will utilize a microphone peripheral for singing and the Wii Remote's motion-sensing technology for dancing, to provide players with a realistic and enjoyable performing experience."
Weve got to be honest: in the past, we werent too sure about Boogie. Its not that we dont like dancing games; we GR folk harbor no ill will toward exercise and love ourselves some Dance, Dance Revolution. The thing is, we were skeptical about the appeal of a dancing game in which the player wasnt actually... you know... dancing. Or even pretend ...
EA Boogies Onto Wii, Microphone Possibly Confirmed (News)

EA has announced it's Montreal studio, which recently released SSX Blur, is working on a new game called Boogie in which gamers will essentially be creating music videos and will be in charge of both the dancing, like many music/rhythm games before it, and the singing.

From the press release:

""We're creating something new and different for gamers of all ages to enjoy; the complete party package where gamers can dance as well as sing," said Alain Tascan, Vice President and General Manager, EA Montreal. "Nintendo's Wii is an amazing console that really gives us a platform to be creative and to re-think traditional game development."

Boogie will have gamers dancing, singing and starring in their own music videos. Players can also choose and customize different characters in the game to best show off their dancing style and karaoke skills. With innovative gameplay that perfectly matches the unique Wii controls, Boogie is the ultimate videogame party package."

While the game seems like something many gamers would be very interested in, let's focus on the tidbit of news in that release that maybe shouldn't be. It seems like EA has unofficially confirmed that there will indeed be the much rumored microphone for the Nintendo Wii. Unless there is some mechanism on the Wii that can input voice already there certainly will be a microphone add-on for the Wii and it will be coming this year as Boogie is to be released later in 2007.
We were going to show you this tomorrow, but thanks to the unpredictable internet, the announcement of EA Montreals brand new Wii dancing game, Boogie, was leaked a day early. We flew to Quebec last month to witness the game's first unveiling.

Boogie isnt just about waving a Wiimote around like youre Travolta - its a frankengame that combines dancing, karaoke, and custom music videos. The singing aspect has shoveled a bit more fodder into rumors of a Wii microphone, but weve yet to hear any ...
