Ben 10: Protector of Earth

Ben 10: Protector of Earth

An adventure in juvenile schizophrenia

As we understand it, the kids these days are awfully into cartoons. That’s fine. We’re sure they’ll eventually develop a love for shuffleboard and fiber supplements like the rest of us. But in the meantime, there’s Ben 10: Protector of Earth for the Wii – an action-platformer based on the Cartoon Network series of the same name.

Playing the role of ten year old Ben Tennyson, you’re given a powerful watch known as the Omnitrix, which is capable of transforming you at the flick of a wrist. Literally. Taking the Wii remote and quickly tilting it over to the nunchuk triggers Ben’s signature transformation process into any one of a handful of alien alter egos of your choosing.

Each alien persona has his own advantages and disadvantages to consider depending on the environment at hand. For example, there are points when you’ll need to pass through a blazing pile of oil drums by morphing into the fiery Heatblast character. Other times you may just want to hear witty one-liners, which is when Fourarms comes in handy (judging my his name, you might also assume Fourarms is good for pure brute strength - which is true, but it’s important to never underestimate the power of a witty one-liner.) You can only stay transformed for so long, which adds a layer of strategy to the game since Ben himself isn’t the strongest in the world.
