Gamedaily.biz writes: "Break out the champagne. After endless losses, Atari has posted a net income of $3.5 million for its first quarter. The release of Alone in the Dark was a big factor.

A couple weeks ago French publisher Infogrames reported its own first quarter fiscal results, revealing a 91 percent rise in sales, which was driven in large part by a "strong recovery" of the U.S. business (i.e. Infogrames' subsidiary Atari). Today, Atari announced its own fiscal results, and Infogrames wasn't kidding: Atari posted a profit of $3.5 million for the quarter, a vast improvement from the net loss of $11.9 million during the same period last year."

Atari issues statement regarding AITD review scores (News)

Atari has issued a statement to Gamesindustry.biz about the recent reviews of Alone in the Dark. The company said that it's happy with UK reviews of AITD, but refused to comment when asked about the legal rumours that have started appearing on the web.

"We're happy with the review scores in the UK," a spokesperson explained. "We believe the game speaks for itself."

German videogame site 4players.de claims to be involved in apparent legal battle with Atari stemming from the sites review of "Alone in the Dark", a multiplatform horror/action game published by Atari in June of 2008.

Atari and MILAN RECORDS recently announced the May 24, 2008 release of the soundtrack to the highly anticipated survival-horror game, Alone in the Dark. The score was composed by Olivier Deriviere and performed by, Grammy Award-winning choir The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices.

A downloadable demo for the Xbox 360 edition of Alone in the Dark will not arrive until the title nears launch, according to a forum post from Atari Europe community administrator Tenebra.

Tenebra had previously indicated that a demo was in the planning stages for PC, X360 and PS3, with a debut planned for early May. Claiming they were given incorrect information, the administrator later clarified that an Xbox 360 demo would hit around the game's release, with "no confirmations on other formats."

VideoGamer.com reports that Atari's quarter three financial results have revealed a number of new titles currently lined-up for release in the publishers coming fiscal year (ending March 31, 2009):

"The biggest is one we already know about, Alone in the Dark, which should release in May for Xbox 360, PC, PS2 and Wii. A PS3 version is to follow at a later date. Alone in the Dark is to be joined in the summer by PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 FPS Legendary.

New to our knowledge is Airborne Rangers for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. There's no info, but it could be a new game based on a game of the same name released in the late 80s by MicroProse. You also probably know that, while the protagonist's name is Edward Carnaby, he has absolutely nothing in common with the original, more dapper Carnaby of the first game. Atari has just started its viral marketing campaign for Alone in the Dark as the mysterious website www.centraldark.com was launched. Atari sent out a press release with nothing more than this link. On the website, you can view a trailer which tells the story of what mystery lies under the ground of Central Park in New York. Beneath the trailer, however, there is a countdown which reaches zero on December 13.

So, PS2 and Wii versions are being developed by Hydravision (Eden Games is handling the other versions), and feature the same storyline as the previously announced outings for the revival of the venerable survival horror series.

According to Atari, PS2 and Wii versions of Alone in the Dark push respective hardware "hard", "incorporating many of the gameplay features found in the Xbox 360 version".

"Back in May, DS-x2 broke the news that Alone in the Dark 5: Near Death was heading for the Nintendo DS and Wii. Our sources, several European retailers, were not able to back up these claims. Today, we can enlighten all with the news that the game is indeed heading for the Nintendo DS and Wii.

Atari has confirmed the existance of both versions, and added that the title is heading for the PC, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, PSP and Xbox 360 as well. Not much information on the Nintendo versions has been released yet, but we did get confirmation that the Nintendo DS and PSP versions will be based on the console versions and feature special 'functionalities'.

On Wii, Atari was able to explain the controls briefly. In short, Alone in the Dark uses the Wiimote to control the camera, aim and shoot your weapon and control just about every object in your environment (ranging from fire extinguisher to tables and chairs). The Nunchuk-controller is used to move your character.

One of the special functionalities on the handheld versions has been revealed to us already: the PSP title can be linked up with its Playstation 3 counterpart. During the game, PSP owners can receive txt-messages (SMS) from other characters within the game. Also, the PSP will be able to display a realtime map while you're playing on the Playstation 3."
