    Joel, he's a bad ass.

Out of those five I picked Joel but if Ellie or Elizabeth were on this list I think I would have picked on of them.

Ellie best overall character in my opinion

I find it funny how Trevor is both one of the most loved and most hated characters of 2013. Anyway, my vote's for Edward.

I voted for Trevor Philips simply because he's just so wonderfully psychotic. If I were to choose a personal runner up, I'd likely pick Kenway for his swashbuckling badassery. Have barely played The Last of Us, so I can't comment on Joel much, but his personal conflict seems interesting. If I actually got the chance to play The Last of Us in its entirety, it's possible I'd go with him instead given how everyone comments on how well-written and believable his character was. Not sure why, but the Lutece twins didn't leave that big of an impression on me compared to Trevor or Edward. They were kind of interesting, but as far as BioShock Infinite characters go, I'd sooner go with Elizabeth, or maybe Booker/Comstock. The former was quirky and fun, as well as useful to have around, and the latter's identity was a mind-exploding plot twist if nothing else. What's the appeal of the twins? I'm seeing them here, and I think they won Character of the Year at VGX, so I'm wondering if someone could shed light on what makes them good characters.

I totally go for Joel - imo its a no-brainer to anyone who seriously played TLO. However he won't win purely out of the fact that about 10 times more people played GTA on both systems

If you judge based on the comments alone however, Joel seems to be the overwhelmingly more popular choice. Furthermore, that it sold a ton doesn't equate or even mean that translates into the majority of readers here being the key demographic for the game. So I'd say Joel still has a very real shot at winning this (:

Joel was probably the most conflicted and therefor human character I've probably ever seen in a game. Sure some of the other characters were "serious" but they still were kind of silly in ways that we've seen before. Joel ends up taking a dark, selfish path, but rather than it being dark for the sake of being over the top or excessively violent, it's him protecting the only thing he has left the only way he knows how. Horrible things happen and you can see exactly why he does it.

    Joel

Uhg Last of Us. Trevor or the twins!

Joel, followed closely by Edward Kenway. Both flawed, almost selfish and asshole-ish in their ways, but that's why I loved them. They both seemed like very real people to me.

Joel. Dem flaws that he has to overcome, man.

So many great characters this year. I would have liked to see Ellie and Elizabeth on the list but I would still have to vote for Joel. Amazingly written character, plus some of the best voice acting in any game(Troy Baker ftw!).

If i ever get money and Gone Home is on sale again i'll have to check it out. Having only played Bioshock and GTA on this list my vote is for Trevor. Trevor was the sadistic character I wanted to play as in a GTA game. He made doing all the crazy stuff that is the normal in the GTA series believable. And heres to hoping the PS4 will let you play PS1-3 games on it so i can go back and play The Last of Us, which i have been craving to play since i saw the gameplay demo during E3 2012

    Voted for Trevor... because Trevor.
