What's your favourite sports game - is it... FIFA?

If you're a gamer, the GamesMaster Golden Joystick Awards need no introduction. Which is great for us because it means we can skip the bit about them being the only gaming awards that matter because they're the only gaming awards that are voted for by gamers.

Voting for this year's awards has already begun. If you haven't voted, you can do that right now by visiting the GamesMaster Golden Joystick Awards voting page.

In the meantime, to get everyone feeling sexy and in the mood for the awards, we'll be highlighting each of the categories in turn. Today, we're looking with almost uncontainable excitement at the Sports, Action/Adventure and Music-based nominations.

Category: Sports

Who are we voting for?

Cundy: "Kinect Sports. Don't get me wrong, I love me some FIFA and Top Spin, but Kinect Sports' bowling is just a proper good laugh to play with anyone. You could say that it's 'bowled' me over. But only a twat would say that. So don't."

Dave: "I was disappointed with the new NBA Jam's borked passing system, so I'm going with Tiger Woods, because it's the only other game on the list that doesn't have a man awkwardly gurning at me on the box."

Nathan: "Football Manager 2011. I haven't put anywhere near as many hours into any other game than I have FM"

Justin: "FIFA 11. It’s now been better than PES for a good few years, which makes it the best kickabout anywhere. And great in multiplayer."

Category: Action/Adventure

Who are we voting for?

Cundy: "Shadows of the Damned. Rough around the edges, but any game that lets me shoot demons with a weapon called 'Big Boner' deserves a prize. In fact, it deserves two prizes for being the only game I've ever played that manages to cram vomiting, urinating, flatulence and goat decapitation into a single boss fight."

Dave: "Deadly Premonition, because it's the most unique, witty, well-written, genuinely funny, involving, warm, immersive, complex, intelligently-designed game possibly ever (for all the reasons I listed here). And still, a lot of people think it's crap. Because a lot of people are idiots."

Nathan: “Dead Rising 2. The rigid mechanics were a right kick in the stones to begin with but the variety of weapons and  the amount of zombie fodder you got to punch through the face more than made up for the early sadness.

Justin: "Portal 2. I’ve actually only played this in co-op so far, but it’s still utterly awesome. Makes you feel clever too. "

Category: Music-based

Who are we voting for?

Cundy: "Child of Eden. Not convinced it belongs in this category. I'd say it's more a shooter. But I guess it just doesn't sit right with all those angry men and their guns and headshots and war. No. Child of Eden truly is a thing of hypnotic, mind-blowing beauty."

Dave: "Child of Eden. Because aside from being pretty much the most beutiful audio-visual experience in all of games, unlike most music games, it actually allows you to make music with total freedom."

Nathan: "Def Jam Rapstar. Even though it could really do with some Vanilla Ice tracks. Word to your mother."

Justin: "Child of Eden. Space Whale is amazing. And it works as a high-score challenge game too, which I love. Did I mention Space Whale?"

So that's whose getting our Sports, Action/Adventure and Music votes. How about you lovely people? Feel free to share your choices in the comments. And join us again on Wednesday when we'll be looking at the RPG, Mobile and Downloadable categories.

Oh come on, LuisHernandez1988. Nothing to be mad about. Soccer (Football if you care enough for that to matter) players are notorious for flopping in an attempt to get a penalty called. It is one of the things that are dispicable about soccer these days, and made me not like the sport (I was never great at it, but I did play for 3 years and enjoyed it at the time).

    It's favorite. Not favourite.
  • Jesse1066 - September 12, 2011 2:08 p.m.

Favorite is the American spelling. Everywhere else, it's favourite.
  • Money - September 12, 2011 8:55 a.m.

F1 2010 (if that counts) - Sport None - Music based, they're all f-ing terrible
  • Crabhand - September 12, 2011 4:51 a.m.

I voted the other day, and damn were there some tough choices. I think music-based was the easiest category to vote for ^_^
