New Writer Joins
Smallville , Heroes and Battlestar Galactica scripter Mark Verheiden has joined Akiva Goldsman as co-writer on the mammoth project to bring Stephen King’s fantasy series The Dark Tower to both the big and the small screen, reports Deadline . Currently the plan is have three films, plus a television series that would initially run between the films, then carry on indefinitely afterwards. Casting is still underway for the epically-scaled adaptation with Javier Bardem still said to be “locked in psychologically” for the part of the Gunslinger, Roland Deschain.
May Have Found A New Home
Horizons , the sci-fi thriller from director Joseph ( Tron: Legacy ) Kosinski, that began life at Disney may have found a new home at Universal, reckons The Hollywood Reporter . Disney passed on the project because Kosinski wanted to keep the film more hard-edged than suited the Mouse House’s tastes, but allowed him to shop the script around other studios. And it appears having Tom Cruise tentatively attached as a star helps smooth a deal.
Movie In The Pipeline
Paramount has picked up the rights to make a movie version of Ray Bradbury’s classic tales of interplanetary colonisation, The Martian Chronicles , according to The Hollywood Reporter . The book is actually series of interconnected short stories, first published in the 1940s. The new film is being produced by John Davis ( Waterworld , I,Robot , any movie involving Predators). There was a US mini-series in the ’70 (right), which wasn’t particularly well-received… especially by Bradbury.
Is Bradley Cooper The New Crow?
Heat Vision is tipping The Hangover star Bradley Cooper for the lead role in director Juan Carlos ( 28 Weeks Later ) Fresnadillo remake of The Crow . Apparently, “Cooper met the director in Spain recently, ‘where the two hit it off and shared a vision for the character and the film.’”
Rufus Sewell Is a God Damned Vampire
Dark City star Rufus Sewell is the latest addition to the cast of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter . According to Variety , Sewell will play Adam, the vampire leader and the film’s big bad. He joins a cast that includes Benjamin Walker as Lincoln, Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Alan Tudyk and Jimmi Simpson.
Finds A Villain
Scream 4 ’s Nico Tortorella is the front runner to play the main villain in Stephen ( Van Helsing , The Mummy , The Mummy Returns ) Sommer’s big screen adaptation of Dean Koontz’s Odd Thomas , according to The Hollywood Reporter . He would play a police officer who secretly belongs to a Satanic cult, joining Anton Yelchin, Addison Timlin and (still unconfirmed) Willem Dafoe in the cast. The film is about a character (Odd) who can see but not hear dead people. Quite how Sommers intends to turn this story into CG porn is not yet clear.

Star Up For Batman Role
Variety is suggesting that Torchwood ’s Burn Gorman (he played Owen) is in line for an unspecified role (but definitely not a major one) in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. The same article also reveals that Daniel Sunjata ( Grey’s Anatomy , Rescue Me ) has definitely nabbed a role in the third Nolan Batman movie, while Diego Klattenhoff ( Mean Girls , Lucky Number Slevin ) has been offered the part of a rookie cop.
