XSEED Games has announced it'll be handling US distribution of Way of the Samurai 4. Tenchu developer Acquire's game is an ode to classical Japanese chivalry, mutton-chopped English expansionism, and historically-dubious crossdressing, and will be releasing exclusively for the PlayStation 3 in what XSEED promises is a “fully uncut and uncensored” translation of the Japanese original.

The game hasn't been dated yet, but XSEED and Sony promise more info soon. Players can expect Samurai 4 to continue the series' traditions of branching story-driven gameplay, cracked-out sandbox side-quests to rival Saint's Row, and a degree of period authenticity described by XSEED as “100% historically accurate (shhhh!)”. The game casts you as a nameless wandering sword-for-hire caught in the skirmish between an encroaching empire and a shadowy gang of fundamentalists; if that setup sounds familiar enough, rest assured Acquire's series has developed a reputation for delivering the unexpected...

This looks side-splittingly terrible, and I want in.

YES! This series has always had its merits and shortcomings, but even if you have no clue how to advance the plot, you can get wrapped up in it for hours just going around pretending to be [your favorite anime samurai] and causing all sorts of shenanigans. 3 also had some of the coolest/craziest costumes and props you could put on your character, and looking at this, it's about to get super classy with European wear. I can't freakin wait.
