Watch a featurette on how Tom Hardy became Bane in The Dark Knight Rises

With the upcoming DVD/Blu-ray release of The Dark Knight Rises , another featurette has appeared online showing the transformation of Tom Hardy into the film's villain, Bane.

Following the previous behind-the-scenes look at the collapse of the Gotham Rogues football stadium , here we get stunt coordinator Tom Struthers talking us through the difficulties of changing Hardy from his previous role's thinner physique to the much bulkier Bane, as he added 30 to 35 pounds to his frame.

Christian Bale also pops in, with Hardy's voice appearing over the top.

Hardy was certainly a terrifying and powerful presence on screen, especially his initial brutal face off with Batman, clearly establishing that he was the superior force. It's also interesting to see the level of make up needed to cover up Hardy's numerous tattoos to create the unmarked skin of Bane.

Directed by Christopher Nolan and co-starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Anne Hathaway, The Dark Knight Rises arrives on DVD and Blu-ray on 3 December 2012.
