Videogame Geek is distant cousin of Glee Geek, says all encompassing chart

Cool infographic incoming! From the 16th century origin all the way to the modern “geek chic” of today, there have always been geeks. And now there’s a chart to categorize them all.

A strong, proud, and slightly hunched video game geek stands proudly in the midst of his geek cousins, and it looks like he’s holding the original concept for the PS3 controller. How did he get one of those?

We could bore you by reiterating all of the information you’re just going to read in the image, or we could rant about how there’s really no correlation between D&D geeks and WoW geeks. But we won’t because this is an article based on a picture. And nobody will read this far into the text. You’re all looking at the image. We might as well just stop writing now. Maybe we’ll even spell a word wrong or write nonsense. Balubla. Or maybe we’ll just stop in the middle of a

So, what kind of geek are you?

I'm mostly a Video Game geek with part otaku (otaku geek? doesn't the word otaku already has the idea of geek in it??) with a tiny bit of D&D geek. Have you ever met a geekus prime? ANNOYING AS HELL!!

Plan10FromOuterSpace, I know what you mean. You don't have to know every little thing about a type of culture to be a fan of it.

I'm a geek of the world. I love tech, video games, books, theater, cooking, Star Trek (suck it, Lucas), and anime. Side note: who needs Swedish fugal opera when you've got Norwegian goth rock? Seriously, check out Leaves' Eyes - Tale of the Sea Maid. Awesome tune in an "oh my god, I can't believe someone actually made this sound good" kind of way.

I guess I'm a video game, music and otaku geek. And what exactly is a Steve Urkel Ubergeek?
  • BlackElement17 - August 4, 2011 12:19 a.m.

I think Paul got distracted by something shiny while writing this.

@EdDeRs1: If you notice, the flowchart says "Music Geeks specialize in bands and genres never heard of before...". Everyone has heard of Led Zeppelin. Not saying they're not a good band though.
  • HankVenture - August 3, 2011 10:41 p.m.

I think this is sorta old. I am pretty sure I seen this flow chart awhile back
  • Rowdie - August 3, 2011 10:32 p.m.

    videogame geek = vidiot.
  • ShadowBroker23 - August 3, 2011 9:40 p.m.

so... it's possible to be more than just one type of geek?
  • purple_omlet - August 3, 2011 9:29 p.m.

Bottom third of chart is entirely made up of hipsters. Fucking hipsters... worse than hippies.
  • ninjaemperor - August 3, 2011 9:03 p.m.

I'm pretty much a combo of most of the pop culture geeks, lol
  • Plan10FromOuterSpace - August 3, 2011 8:43 p.m.

In a weird sort of way i'd like to class myself as a geek of many things, but just because I like them doesn't mean I have the time or want to learn everything there is to know about them, for instance i'm a bit of a film geek but im not claiming to of seen every great film ever made, I just watch a lot of them and enjoy holding opinions and discussing them...same with video games and so on, I like a lot of things passionately I just lack the knowledge to class myself as a geek I think... also why is there no section for 'talkradar geeks' on this thing?
  • stevethetree - August 3, 2011 8:41 p.m.

The word geek has been said so much it sounds weird now. Geek geek geek!
  • Beefcube - August 3, 2011 8:38 p.m.

I hate to sound rude, but I still don't get why people hate Twilight so much. I read a bit to see for myself and I definitely am not a fan, but I don't see why merely mentioning it's name instantly causes people to go into some crazy hate-rant mode (Although Gob's rant kind of makes since since he's more annoyed by the fact that the picture seems to be saying that most book geeks like it. But in general...). That little rant of my own was probably too long, so anyway- I'm a mainly Video Game Geek(of course) with a pretty large amount of Otaku and a little bit of Film Geek. So I'm pretty firmly in the Pop Culture Geek zone.
  • Thequestion 121 - August 3, 2011 8:26 p.m.

Ha, I guess I'm a video game geek
  • Personamanxx - August 3, 2011 8:16 p.m.

  • rpc88 - August 3, 2011 8:10 p.m.

Is it possible to be more than one of these?
  • codystovall - August 3, 2011 8:07 p.m.
