Uncharted 2 was nearly about Thor's Hammer

Here's a bit of Uncharted 'what if' for you. During some recent interviews with Neil Druckmann for the upcoming Uncharted 4, he revealed that Uncharted 2 was nearly about the search for Thor's Hammer.

Apparently the process of picking good historical MacGuffins to chase starts with bringing "as many to the table as possible," says Druckmann. These ideas are then tested with concept art and "story exploration" to see what potential they may have.

Not everything makes it obviously, as ideas compete for Naughty Dog's attention: "we hit a wall here, or lost interest but this other one seems really exciting" and so on. "One we didn’t do I remember discussing for Uncharted 2 was Thor’s hammer," says Druckmann. "What would that mean to do Thor’s Hammer? We would actually do concept art and we got pretty deep down that road."

Alas, it was never meant to be and instead we had the Cintamani Stone. So we'll just have to imagine what would have happened. Would Nathan be worthy to lift it?
