In a pre-Twitter, pre-internet age, it used to be that a show’s cancellation could almost be swept under the rug. Shows would disappear off TV without explanation or fanfare. Now every announcement is pored over fetishtically, and we’re all contributing more than ever to the outcry thanks to Twitter.
Take last Friday when a slew of cancellations/commissions were announced over in Americaland. The two biggest sci-fi casualties were The Secret Circle and Awake . Neither was particularly unexpected given how they’ve been performing, but Awake is a particularly cutting loss given the exceptional quality of the show. We’ve no doubt one day it will be habitually mentioned in the same breath as Firefly ... So here, in tribute to one of sci-fi’s smartest shows of recent memory, are some words of condolence for Awake:
@ KermodeMovie I think we should start campaigning for Awake: The Movie now. Think Fire Walk With Me ...
And if you haven’t heard, The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb is now on Twitter. Follow him at @ MarcW , where he’s been tweeting Spidey pics like these:

@ KarenGillan2 And that's a wrap! Bye bye from the ponds. We love you.
@ simonpegg It's easy to pretentiously refer to 3 films as a trilogy but World's End will be the ribbon that ties Shaun and Fuzz together. Cannot wait.

@ simonpegg Sharing screen time with Jon Berthnal aka Shane from Walking Dead. That's a Shane/Shaun zombie killing summit waiting to happen.#lanoir
@ jumblejim I think next season on SPN, Bobby's Jewish brother Isaac Bashevis should turn up.
@ wilw Cave Johnson here! The lab boys wanted me to tell you that you're reading this in my voice. And if you weren't... well, you are now.
@ DamonLindelof I'm not gonna say the R rating was inevitable, but the PG-13 cut of PROMETHEUS was eleven minutes long.
