Tweets Of The Week

Doctor Who drama, literary giants collide and Russell Crowe visits the set of Prometheus in this week's tweets

Neil Gaiman on WhoSay

Forget the BBC Press Office, it seems the place to be for Doctor Who news in the past couple of weeks has been Twitter. It all started not-so-innocently enough with Private Eye’s misleading, albeit eye-catching tweet:

@PrivateEyeNews So. Farewell then #Doctor_Who -- full story on the chaos at the BBC (and in the Tardis) in the new issue of Private Eye.

Turns out it wasn’t farewell for long, as later that same day Sam Hodges, Head Of Communications for BBC1, Fiction, Daytime and HD announced:

@Sam_Hodges #DoctorWho is returning. Fourteen new episodes have been commissioned with Matt Smith as The Doctor #bbc1

Which was later confirmed by the Grand Moff himself:

@steven_moffat 14 eps + Matt DEFINITELY. I've got a plan and I'm NOT TELLING YOU WHAT IT IS. Now hush or River shoots you with her Spoiler Gun. #formaqueue

Moffat has taken to the procrastinator’s social network of choice like a Time Lord to fish fingers and custard since joining, and his tweets in the past week have given a much more personal and immediate insight into the men behind Doctor Who than we’ve been used to in the past. Not that we're complaining.

@ steven_moffat Private Eye seems like such fun, until it's YOUR friends they're spreading nasty, inaccurate gossip about. How horrible.

@ steven_moffat Dr Who: misquotes and misunderstandings. But I'm not being bounced into announcing the cool stuff before we're ready. Hush, and patience.

@ steven_moffat The scheduling of Dr Who has got NOTHING to with Sherlock. On the plus side THE BBC SPELLED MY NAME RIGHT!!!!
