Tweets Of The Week

The return of Firefly , Steven Moffat’s harshest critic and the cheesier side of Russell T Davies in this week’s tweets

Of all the cruel injustices in sci-fi history ( The Phantom Menace , Heroes season two, the inexplicable success of Michael Bay), few still hurt as much as the cancellation of Firefly – a show with so much potential even a kick-ass movie tying up most of the arc plot’s loose ends wasn’t enough to satisfy fans.

Understandably then, even the merest whiff that Firefly might rise from the ashes sparks the kind of rabid internet chatter typically associated with a catastrophic natural disaster and/or the arrival of aliens. Such was the case this week when, to celebrate Firefly being shown on cable in the States for the first time since 2008, Nathan Fillion answered five of Entertainment Weekly ’s questions about the show. When asked if he would ever consider returning to the role Fillion replied: “Yes. Yes. I would examine very closely Fox’s reasoning — I’m a little gun-shy. If I got $300 million from the California Lottery, the first thing I would do is buy the rights to Firefly , make it on my own, and distribute it on the Internet.”

With Captain Mal in place (in our wildest dreams, granted. But let’s role with it) it didn’t take long for others to sign up too including Firefly writher Jose Molina ( @JoseMolinaTV For what it's worth, I’ve told him I’d drop what I was doing and follow//Fillion says he’d play Mal again http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/02/17/firefly-returns/ via @ EW ) and Dave Golder’s Woman Of The Year 2010 Jane Espenson ( @JaneEspenson @ JoseMolinaTV I’m there, if needed.)

In the really real world there’s more chance of Demons coming back than Firefly , of course, but we can dream, right?
