Tuesday News round-up

Jennifer Connelly Stands Still
Variety is reporting that Jennifer Connelly has been signed up for the remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still, to star along side Keanu Reeves (for whom stranding still is right up his acting oeuvre – he’s presumably playing the Michael Rennie character but you can’t help wondering if he’s more suited to Gort). The film is being directed by Scott Derrickson, who gave us The Exorcism of Emily Rose.

Another Clash
And while we’re on the subject of remakes, Latino Review reckons that Warners is courting Robert Rodriguez to direct Clash of the Titans… But isn’t he supposed to be doing Barbarella? Let’s hope he resists the temptation to stick in a clockwork owl. And somebody must have mentioned Sean Connery for Zeus by now…

AvP2R
Nope, the headline’s not been replaced by a random bit of hypertext. Sci Fi Wire reports that the brother team directing Alien versus Predator 2, Colin and Greg Strause, are gunning for a US R rating for their monster mash sequel – the first AvP was a PG-13. "This is definitely going to be R-rated," Greg Strause tells the site. "We didn't want to look like we were holding back."

The New Knight Rider
US daytime TV soap actor Justin Bruening will be playing Michael Knight’s son in the new TV movie remake of Knight Rider. It‘s a case of déjà vu, as the Hoff was also a daytime soap actor before he nabbed the lead in the ’80s series about a talking, thinking, speed limit ignoring supercar. The new TV movie is being seen as a backdoor pilot for NBC and is being executive produced by Bourne Identity director Doug Liman.
