Transformers spotted at ShoWest

Right now in Las Vegas (unless you’re reading this weeks later), a massive annual gathering of cinema chain exhibitors is being wined, dined and treated to a dog-and-pony show by the studios pimping their exciting summer fare and promising that they’ll all be making piles of money.

The biggest storm of Tuesday’s presentation was undoubtedly the trailer for Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End. Jerry Bruckheimer was drafted in to premiere the new footage, which had the attendees applauding like the audience from The Running Man.

Also dragged out to talk up his latest work was Brad Bird, who is busy putting the finishing touches to Disney/Pixar’s latest, Ratatouille. Eschewing such petty nonsense as a trailer, Bird announced that Peter O’Toole is voicing a character and showed 12 minutes of finished film, which also went down really well with the ShoWest crowd. After dominating the box office last year, Disney might be looking at another healthy summer.

Finally, Paramount/DreamWorks was making a big push on the convention floor for Transformers, flooding every available billboard with posters and bringing full-size models of the robots (in disguise, natch). No doubt Michael Bay will be wheeled out this week to explain why his film will be the biggest, baddest giant robot fight ever committed to film, but for now you’ll have to make do with these shots taken by Comingsoon.net, which suffer a little from dad-on-a-holiday style thanks to the packed booth but still – click here .
